Chapter 47: Fury: This cup, it
On the other end of the phone, Coulson was left completely speechless, his brain circuits nearly crashing.
What on earth is this guy?!
Posting Black Widow's video on an international adult website—is that really a devious trick a human could come up with?
Beside him, Black Widow, who was hanging from the ceiling, couldn't help but shiver upon hearing Alvin's words. Her mind was filled with the miserable fate of the investigator in the video.
Due to mission requirements, she had dabbled in a few such works.
The mere thought of becoming a plaything, and likely the only agent to ever be posted on an adult site, made her want to bite her tongue and end it all!
Losing face—that's not how you lose it!
Black Widow struggled desperately, using every technique she knew, but the rope didn't loosen; instead, it tightened further.
It would be a miracle if she could break free; this was the pinnacle of rope art, a fusion of hundreds of works!
Setting other aspects aside, just in terms of rope bondage, Alvin was willing to call the Japanese the best!
Coulson remained silent for a full half-minute before speaking with difficulty: "Mr. Velsius, you may not understand us well. S. H. I. E. L. D. is an organization authorized by the World Security Council to maintain global safety and handle anomalous events. What you are doing... is a provocation against S. H. I. E. L. D."
"Are you threatening me?" Alvin naturally caught the implied threat on the other end of the line.
"I am merely stating facts, Mr. Velsius."
Coulson tried using negotiation tactics, deliberately lowering his voice to increase psychological deterrence: "Our existence is known to only a very few. In terms you can understand, our authority is vast. We can arrest you directly without going through state or city courts; even the Department of Defense cannot interfere with us."
Although there was a suspicion of exaggeration, it was undeniable that S. H. I. E. L. D. indeed possessed significant authority.
"Fine, I'll be waiting."
Alvin sneered and hung up the phone directly.
Right now, he was the one with nothing to fear. Did they really think they could bluff him?
If S. H. I. E. L. D. could just grab anyone they wanted, the first people who would want them dead wouldn't be Alvin; it would be those congressmen and the capital groups behind them.
Everyone was playing within the tacitly agreed-upon rules, but if you insisted on jumping out, wasn't that just asking for a beating?
Sure enough, after a moment of silence, the landline rang again with a rapid, urgent sound.
But this time, Alvin had no intention of answering. He walked slowly toward Black Widow and, under her terrified gaze, said in a leisurely manner: "Miss Natasha, it's a pity. It seems your so-called organization isn't willing to spend one hundred million dollars to redeem you. So, I'll have to find a way to collect some interest myself."
No, don't... Black Widow screamed frantically in her heart, wishing she could strangle that damn egghead Fury!
Don't let her find out who made that call, or when she got back, she would definitely kill that bastard. Whether they gave the hundred million was one thing, but couldn't they have just stalled for time?
Ring-a-ling! Ring-a-ling! Ring-a-ling!
This time, it wasn't just the landline; even his private cell phone was ringing.
It was clear that S. H. I. E. L. D. was truly desperate.
Alvin answered the phone in an orderly fashion, turned on the speakerphone, and before the other side could speak, he said first: "What, are you planning to tell me your missiles are already aimed at me?"
"No, no, no, you're joking, Mr. Velsius."
Coulson said with extreme helplessness: "Just now was a misunderstanding. We want to talk to you."
"Fine, one hundred million dollars, not a penny less."
Alvin lowered his head to glance at his watch and kindly reminded them: "Half an hour is up, there are twenty minutes left now."
"That is extortion, Mr. Velsius." Coulson twitched his mouth, feeling he had encountered a tough nut to crack this time.
"Is that so?" Alvin picked at his fingernails and said faintly: "Why don't we talk about the fact that you sent a female spy to seduce me and also planned to torture me, how about that?"
"Mr. Velsius, we are S. H. I. E. L. D.; this was to avoid security issues." Coulson had a headache and could only explain reluctantly: "Please believe us, S. H. I. E. L. D. would never harm you. Agent Romanoff's behavior was entirely to scare you."
"Do you think I look like a fool?" Alvin retorted.
There was no answer from the other side for a long time.
"Listen clearly, I don't care if you are S. H. I. E. L. D. or Bird-Shield, it has nothing to do with me."
Alvin's eyelids flickered slightly. Black Widow, hanging in mid-air, suddenly felt her throat being gripped, completely unable to intake air, her entire face turning red and purple.
"You guys should be able to see what's happening in the room, right?" He squeezed his five fingers slightly, and Black Widow's body twitched uncontrollably, her eyes even rolling back: "Don't say I'm being unreasonable; you were the ones who made a move on me first, so you have to be prepared to bear the price of failure, don't you?"
"Stop!"
Coulson used the surveillance to see Black Widow, who was about to be strangled to death, and shouted in shock: "Mr. Velsius, please calm down!"
Alvin released his psionic power and said calmly: "Next time you call, I hope it's the news that one hundred million dollars has arrived. Understand?"
After speaking, he hung up the phone directly.
Black Widow coughed violently, her eyes bloodshot from lack of oxygen, looking at Alvin with both shock and horror.
So ruthless—he acted without a word, without the slightest hesitation!
She suddenly realized that she must have been exposed long ago; this damn devil had been lying to her all along!
Hunting geese all day, only to be pecked in the eye by a goose!
And she had thought the mission was simple and that this kid was hooked easily; it turned out she was the one who had fallen into his trap!
"What the f***!"
In the highest office of S. H. I. E. L. D., the black egghead Fury threw his cup in anger: "One hundred million, why doesn't he just go rob a bank?"
Coulson stood to the side, feeling aggrieved, and whispered: "Boss, this is much faster than robbing a bank."
"Do I need you to tell me that?!" Fury glared at him, his lingering anger not yet dissipated, the veins on his forehead throbbing: "S. H. I. E. L. D. has been established for decades, and this is the first time someone has extorted us!"
"Then what should we do now? Boss."
Coulson sighed helplessly: "Regardless, Romanoff was doing it for the mission. That kid's temper is too hard; I'm afraid if I say two more words, Romanoff will be strangled to death by him."
Fury closed his eyes and pondered for a long time, then suddenly opened them, squinting slightly: "Coulson, according to your description, that kid possesses superpowers?"
"That's right. From what I saw in the surveillance, Alvin is suspected of possessing some kind of superpower that can control objects from a distance." Coulson didn't understand his intent but reported truthfully.
"Good, isn't it just one hundred million? Give it to him!"
Fury seemed to have thought of something, a mysterious smile appearing on his face, as if everything was under control.
"We're really giving it to him?"
Coulson was a bit uncertain; this was not a small amount!
"Of course, since he dares to ask, why wouldn't I dare to give it?"
Fury struck a confident pose, crossing his hands to support his chin, like a cunning fox with deep schemes: "Don't forget, that plan of ours—a mere one hundred million... doesn't count for much."
"But... how are we going to explain this to the higher-ups?" Coulson asked, feeling troubled.
S. H. I. E. L. D.'s money didn't come from the wind; every expenditure had to be clearly documented, otherwise, how could they explain it to the Security Council?
"See that cup?"
Fury looked at the cup in the corner that he had smashed and said faintly: "Go to the warehouse and declare one thousand of them."
"And then?"
Coulson still didn't understand what this had to do with the cup.
"This cup is worth one hundred thousand. Understand?"
Under Coulson's shocked expression, Fury walked over and patted him on the shoulder, saying earnestly: "Learn slowly; you still have a lot to learn, Agent Coulson." ===== CHAPTER 48 =====
