Chapter 334: The Annihilation of the Cannibal Tribe

~8 min read 1,443 words

After Xiong and his men had finished cleaning up half of the battlefield, the Soldiers monitoring the perimeter reported that they had discovered a group of savages walking toward this location, numbering about twenty.

There was no need to make a big fuss over such a small number of people; they were likely part of the group that Ya had mentioned were out hunting. Xiong casually assigned a few dozen men to go over and lie in ambush on the only path they could take, waiting for them to arrive so they could be dealt with directly, without letting a single one escape.

Before long, the returning Soldiers said they had already taken care of them. Xiong nodded casually to show he understood. Although the battlefield had been thoroughly cleaned up, according to what Ya had said, there were still about two hundred people out hunting who had not returned. These people had to be wiped out, so Xiong ordered everyone to rest in place, except for the Scouts.

However, it was already summer, and flies had swarmed in, smelling the scent; there was buzzing everywhere, which was very annoying, and the smell of blood was heavy, now giving off a foul, putrid odor. Everyone frowned tightly, feeling very disgusted.

But there was no other way; if they didn't stay put and wait for the rabbit to hit the stump, they wouldn't be able to find the enemy when they arrived later. If they didn't finish them off today, it would be even harder to find them tomorrow.

Fortunately, the sky was gradually growing dark, and the savages who had gone out hunting were returning in batches. They had killed many of them intermittently, and the total number already exceeded two hundred.

The sun was about to set, and there shouldn't be anyone else returning now; they should all be wiped out, so Xiong ordered a retreat to the camp to rest.

Everyone immediately felt much more relaxed, finally able to leave this place, with countless eagles, vultures, and crows circling in the sky, waiting to enjoy this feast.

Some of the bolder ones, who couldn't wait any longer, had long since flown down to feast. Xiong and his men didn't care; these things were useless to kill and couldn't be eaten, so they let them clean up the waste meat here, letting the flesh of these beasts return to the beasts once again.

As soon as Xiong and his men left, the birds of prey in the sky dove toward the ground in unison, beginning to scramble for the food with terrifying sounds. Even after they had traveled quite far away, they could still hear those calls that made one's skin crawl.

All the Soldiers worked in two shifts, with half remaining on guard and half going out. The portion that went on the expedition today would remain at the main camp tomorrow, while those who stayed behind today would need to go out to fight tomorrow. As for that unlucky fellow Xiong, he had to go out every day; there was no help for it, as the capable must do more work.

Their daily battle results had to be sent back to the New City headquarters via carrier pigeon. It was fortunate that they had enough carrier pigeons now, otherwise, they really wouldn't have enough to send back every day. After all, their pigeons could only fly one way; they could fly back to the nests in the city, but the ones in the nests had no way of flying to Xiong and his men.

Raptors like the falcons they raised were mainly used for surveillance; using them to deliver messages was a bit extravagant. They only used raptors for major battles and very important information that had to be guaranteed to be foolproof.

Baifeng was still very satisfied with the news he received every day, as long as there were no deaths. Especially when facing such a large tribe of thousands of people, it could be considered a major battle, so injuries were certainly unavoidable. Even if they were disabled, the state could support them, and if they died, they could only provide compensation to their families.

The next day, Xiong directly had people escort Ya to lead the way to the final location for the slaughter. Ya also knew what his tribesmen were about to face, but it didn't matter now; only in this way did he have a glimmer of a chance to survive.

As for sacrificing himself to protect his tribesmen, don't be ridiculous. He was a member of the Changshan Clan; what did he have to do with this savage tribe? He had only led them and developed this tribe, nothing more, and there was no deep connection or much affection involved.

Most importantly, he even ate people; he had long since lost his humanity, so would he care about so many things?

Xiong and his men naturally knew this point too, so they didn't need to use excessive threats; Ya was very cooperative and did not resist at all. However, what Ya didn't know was that he had no hope of living at all. But Xiong would not kill him; he would be escorted back to the country as a trophy and proof of the annihilation of the Cannibal Tribe for the King to decide his life or death. However, given the King's character, there were only two choices: a quick death or a painful one.

The last location was just a small Village of over two hundred people. They didn't spend much effort to clean it up completely. They even discovered an unlucky fellow from some unknown tribe whose corpse had already been half-eaten.

Xiong also discovered that this Village was actually built on a Coal Mountain. He didn't know if it was bad luck or good luck. The bad luck was that they had so much coal but didn't know how to use it, always burning firewood. This was also the lucky part; if coal wasn't used well, it was something that would cost them their lives.

Before leaving, Xiong chipped off a piece of coal that looked to be of decent quality and brought it with him. The overall quality of this Coal Mountain was very poor, but it was better than nothing. If the road here was paved in the future, the fuel used by the New City could be taken directly from here, without having to look far for what was near, and without needing to bring coal from the Coal Mine currently being developed at the Old City. This could be considered their biggest harvest from this trip.

After organizing the troops, there was still plenty of time. Not far away was an open mountain Grass field. Xiong suddenly became interested and wanted to climb high to look into the distance, so he took a few people and slowly wandered over to see this new territory of theirs.

Suddenly, his gaze was attracted by a group of creatures in the distance. Those tall creatures looked like cattle, eating Grass on the ground, but upon closer inspection, they were very different. Xiong's heart began to race; this must be the horse that the King had spoken of.

Xiong rubbed his hands together, and seeing that the herd of horses had not discovered them, he walked down around the hillside, wanting to take a closer look.

To his surprise, just as they rounded the hillside, a few horses that had strayed far from the herd appeared before his eyes. Xiong saw horses at zero distance for the first time and was immediately attracted by the tall and sturdy horses. Their flowing manes and handsome figures immediately made him understand why the King was so obsessed with domesticating horses.

As soon as the two sides locked eyes, the horses let out a high-pitched neigh and then ran toward the herd like the wind. Those straggling horses also ran away without looking back. The herd of horses in the distance heard the alarm and also raised their heads to look, but seeing that they were just a few monkeys, they immediately concluded that they were no threat to them, so they continued to lower their heads and eat Grass.

Xiong breathed heavily with excitement; it was truly too good. The running speed of these horses was much faster than that of cattle, making them the most suitable for use as mounts.

Looking at the herd of horses that had already reunited, Xiong made up his mind that no matter what, these horses must be domesticated, no matter how many years it would take.
