Chapter 44: Seizing the Body
Boom!
Luo Yao tried to break the arrays of the other Stone Rooms, but found she couldn't. Once she attacked the array, the array would attack her too. Moreover, after the array absorbed Luo Yao's attack, it would counterattack her instead.
Therefore, Luo Yao's idea of forcefully breaking the array failed.
However much she attacked, the array returned in full.
After thinking it over, she decided to try not attacking the array—maybe then it wouldn't counter her—so she carefully walked toward the Stone Room.
Bang!
But the moment Luo Yao took a single step, her face felt as though it had slammed into an invisible wall. Luckily she had been walking gently, or her nose would have been knocked crooked.
She rubbed her nose and could only give up on this Stone Room.
Anyway, there were still so many Stone Rooms—surely one of them could be opened.
As for the Immortal Pill, legend had it that a single Immortal Pill could let a mortal ascend to immortality on the spot. If only she could obtain one.
Luo Yao's face suddenly changed, and she warily stared at the orb of light. "Who are you?"
Zhao Yang's eyelid twitched and he immediately stopped. If this cramped Cave Abode collapsed, they'd be buried alive here.
"Madman!"
He had been inside the Stone Room before and knew very well that the Stone Room had only this one exit. As long as he guarded here, Luo Yao would have to come out eventually.
"Someone finally came?"
"Was that news spread by you?"
Luo Yao didn't want to perish together with him, so she didn't throw out all the Talisman Paper at once, but tossed them out a few at a time.
"Bastard!"
"Storage Ring?"
She climbed up from the ground, only to find that the Defense Weapon on her body had already developed cracks. Clearly, this Defense Weapon wouldn't last much longer.
Zhao Yang gnashed his teeth. He had been waiting outside for almost a whole day, fed several hundred mosquitoes to the full, yet hadn't even caught a glimpse of Luo Yao's shadow.
Luo Yao was briefly stunned—she had indeed heard that a Dharma Treasure with a spirit could give birth to an Artifact Spirit. A Dharma Treasure with an Artifact Spirit could grow into an immortal weapon in the future.
Even if she couldn't repair this Defense Weapon, having one more was equivalent to having several more chances to escape death.
Luo Yao frowned. Could it be that she'd have to leave empty-handed this time?
The orb of light floated in front of Luo Yao. Hearing her words, it hurriedly explained, "I am the Ring Spirit."
"Stop!"
Boom!
The Talisman Paper instantly transformed into Fireballs and smashed toward Zhao Yang.
……
Luo Yao had actually gotten away again.
She put away the Defense Weapon and began surveying her surroundings.
That person, however, let out a great laugh. "Now that you've realized it, it's already too late. This body of yours is mine!"
Zhao Yang laughed triumphantly, as though he had finally gotten one over on Luo Yao.
"Is that so?"
There was a Passage on every side, leading to who knew where.
However, he quickly reacted. "Hmph, if this Passage collapses, you won't be able to escape either."
Luo Yao's face darkened. "So you're saying there's no Star Frost Sand here, and you deliberately lured me over?"
Luo Yao suddenly caught sight of a gray ring beneath the white bones in her peripheral vision. She reached out and beckoned, and the Storage Ring flew into her hand.
She thought for a moment, then walked over to the corpse, which had by now turned to dry bones—no one knew how long ago it had died.
"Hmm?"
Suddenly, Zhao Yang seemed to have read Luo Yao's thoughts.
Having said that, Zhao Yang directly sped up and reached out to grab Luo Yao.
After Luo Yao stumbled close to the Stone Room and saw that Zhao Yang hadn't come in, she immediately heaved a sigh of relief.
Luo Yao continued walking forward. After an unknown amount of time, she arrived inside a great hall.
"Hahaha, you only realize it now!"
However, fate is something that cannot be seen or touched. Those who are fated, even if countless Beasts block the way ahead and Arrays hinder them, can still walk in as if no one were there. Those without fate, no matter what means they exhaust, can never enter even unto death.
"You!"
Zhao Yang sneered coldly, "Last time I was careless. This time you won't be able to run."
Before Luo Yao finished muttering to herself, she heard a noise, and then saw a figure rush out from another Passage.
Cultivation depends on fate.
Luo Yao's face changed drastically.
She channeled Spirit Power in, only to see an orb of light emerge from the Storage Ring, and a voice spoke out.
Zhao Yang naturally didn't want to let Luo Yao escape again, and quickly gave chase.
Luo Yao retreated at top speed and threw out the Talisman Paper in her hand.
"Release your Divine Sense, and I can acknowledge you as master. Then you can open the Storage Ring and obtain the Immortal Pills and immortal weapons inside!" the Artifact Spirit said.
"Why are you here!"
While throwing Talisman Paper, Luo Yao pondered how to shake off Zhao Yang's pursuit. She didn't want to waste time with Zhao Yang—she had come here to find Star Frost Sand.
With no choice, he could only enter the Cave Abode to explore. However, the areas in front had already been explored, but every time he entered, he had to pass through several Illusion Arrays, which was why he had come in looking so bedraggled.
Whoosh!
The Artifact Spirit, however, instantly burrowed into Luo Yao's sea of consciousness, and Luo Yao finally saw the Artifact Spirit's true appearance—it was actually a shifty-eyed, rat-faced old man.
This news instantly dampened Luo Yao's joy; a Defense Weapon was equivalent to an extra life, and without one, she would have no way to resist Zhao Yang next time they met.
Calling it a Great Hall was a stretch; it looked more like a small Square.
Unless she activated her Golden Finger.
"Yes and no." Zhao Yang did not rush to act, seeming to find it more pleasing to see Luo Yao toyed with by him than to kill her.
But Luo Yao thought it over and still did not use her Golden Finger; she had too many things that required it, so she must think clearly before using it.
If she had an Immortal Artifact in hand, a hundred Zhao Yangs would not be her match.
The next second, Luo Yao vanished entirely into the wall.
The moment Luo Yao drew her Defense Magical Treasure, a Fire Dragon slammed into her, hurling her against the wall.
Zhao Yang cursed under his breath, drew his Defense Magical Treasure, and endured the Fireball attacks while continuing to chase Luo Yao.
However, she knew this narrow place was even more dangerous, so she had no time to think much, turned around, and ran toward the Passage closest to her.
"You cannot escape!"
"The Star Frost Sand is naturally here, only..."
Luo Yao's heart startled; she had never expected Zhao Yang to know. Connecting his appearance in this Ancient Cultivator Cave Abode, Luo Yao instantly understood.
"Hahaha!"
"It's you!"
He smashed his fist into the wall, yet the pain made him bare his teeth and grimace; he could not enter the wall at all.
"Is that so?" Luo Yao snorted, drawing a stack of Talisman Paper from her Storage Bag. "Tell me, can this Passage withstand the explosions of these Talisman Papers?"
How many more times could this Defense Weapon hold out? No rush; after all, the grade of this Defense Weapon was still somewhat low.
Who would have known that upon entering, he would discover Luo Yao, and that she looked even more relaxed than himself?
Zhao Yang's face twisted into a grotesque expression. "When you are dead, I will tell you!"
Boom!
Zhao Yang clenched his fist, struck out, and it transformed into a Fire Dragon that lunged at Luo Yao.
Zhao Yang froze, his face instantly turning as black as a pot bottom.
"Immortal Pill? Immortal Artifact?"
"Hmph, I don't believe you won't come out!"
"Ring Spirit?"
This Stone Room was larger than before, but inside there was no Stone Table; the treasures Luo Yao imagined were not there. Instead, a corpse lay on the ground.
That was not the point. The point was, she was blocked right at the entrance; how had she gotten in?
Luo Yao also recognized Zhao Yang and was equally puzzled as to why Zhao Yang was also within this Ancient Cultivator Cave Abode.
Luo Yao and that person both cried out in surprise, clearly recognizing each other.
"You are not an Artifact Spirit?"
Luo Yao froze. "Really or fake?"
"You want to find the Star Frost Sand, right!"
Instantly, Luo Yao's breathing became rapid, and she subconsciously lowered her Divine Sense guard.
"So, one must choose..."
"Hmm?"
Who would have thought even a Storage Ring would have an Artifact Spirit.
Possession!
Hearing these words, Luo Yao was instantly terrified; an old monster who had lived who knew how long wanted to Possess her, and had already entered her very fragile Sea of Consciousness.
