Chapter 15: True·Flipping the Table!
"Get out!"
A group of big men holding guns and knives roared at a door with bullet holes, tightly shut.
"Shut up! If you keep talking, I'll shoot him dead!"
From inside the room came Zhou Zhengguo's roar, his aura even stronger than that of the people outside.
I have a hostage!
There are five people in the room.
One of them lay on the ground, a pool of blood beneath them, not dead yet, still twitching.
He was the man Tang Luo and the others had kidnapped to show them the way.
Another stranger had their neck gripped by Zhou Zhengguo, with a revolver pressed to their head.
This person was Dr. Jack White, whom the man had brought Tang Luo and the others to find.
This is Dr. Jack White's office.
Just a few minutes ago, when Zhou Zhengguo and the man had barely entered the office door, the man suddenly attacked, turning to seize the gun.
Zhou Zhengguo reacted quickly, not letting the man succeed in seizing the gun.
Instead, a shot hit him.
But it also caused a great commotion.
This formed the current situation: trapped, relying on hostages to make the enemy hesitate.
Hostage-taking and such—
Obviously a righteous detective hunting Jack the Ripper, yet now he's acting like a villain, taking hostages.
Surely something went wrong somewhere.
The office is on the lowest level of the fourth floor, with only a door and a window directly opposite it.
Escaping through the window is no easy feat.
One reason is the height; another is that appearing behind the door makes one easy to get shot.
The bullet holes on the door are a good example.
The door isn't thick; even the relatively low-power revolver bullets here can pierce it.
Now Tang Luo and the others are standing beside the door, pressed against the wall, in a dead zone where bullets can't reach.
Xiao Chu kept their mouth shut, their chest rising and falling violently.
Being mentally prepared and actually facing danger are two completely different things.
It's like the difference between watching a war movie and actually going onto the battlefield.
"Mr. Jack, relax a bit; I have some things I want to ask you." Tang Luo said to Dr. Jack White, who was almost being choked to death by Zhou Zhengguo.
The phrase "relax a bit" in the middle was directed at Zhou Zhengguo.
So that this Mr. Jack could speak.
"Jack?"
The man widened his eyes, shouting, "You fuckers got the wrong person! I'm not Jack!"
"Hey—"
Laughter rang out; the man lying on the ground exhaled his last breath with endless satisfaction.
"Fuck!"
Xiao Chu shouted a curse and punched the wall.
They've all been played!
Zhou Zhengguo also threw in a hometown curse.
Tang Luo remained calm, nodding: "Oh, it's not him then. No problem—do you know this?"
He took out the letter addressed to Huo Qi and pointed to the final signature mark.
"I don't know what you're talking about; I'm just an ordinary doctor." the man said.
"Huh."
Tang Luo chuckled lightly: "Those outside are just ordinary orderlies, right?"
The gun-wielding orderlies.
"I don't know." the man shook his head desperately.
"Really? Then if I push you out the door, do you think those ordinary orderlies will shoot?" Tang Luo asked with a smile, "I hope you're as ordinary as you say, so you can pass peacefully."
"No—"
Before the man could finish speaking, Tang Luo shoved him out the door.
No gunshot rang out.
But before the man could reveal a triumphant smile and flee through the door, a hand seemed to stretch out from nowhere.
It grabbed the man's neck, wanting to lift him like a chick, and forcibly gave him a wall‑slam.
The back of his head smashed into the wall, making the man see stars from the pain.
"Whether you're Jack or not, you're still pretty important to the people outside." Tang Luo said.
"Don't bother. Just rush in and kill them!"
Just then, a cold voice sounded from outside.
Someone of higher status than the hostages Tang Luo and the others had seized appeared, and upon appearing issued a kill order.
He's probably a Russian.
The man showed a look of terror.
Zhou Zhengguo's expression turned grim, the revolver aimed at the doorway.
Unfortunately, the revolver only had six bullets; just one was fired, leaving five remaining.
Outside, it was estimated there were seven or eight people.
"Keep an eye on him."
Tang Luo shoved the man in front of Xiao Chu, whose heart was pounding, then swayed and moved behind the sturdy desk.
"Bang!"
At the same time, the room's door was kicked open violently.
The door panel smashed onto the floor, making a noise.
A crowd rushed in, jostling at the doorway, gun barrels waving wildly.
Without intending to aim at all, and making sure not to hit their comrades in front, they pulled the trigger.
Each face was frenzied, like madmen,
Zhou Zhen Guo's revolver also spat out flames.
"Squeak!"
The harsh sound of a heavy object scraping quickly against the floor rose amid the gunfire.
The heavy desk lying sideways was rotated 90 degrees by Tang Luo.
It was just enough to pass through the door.
He crouched, placed both hands under the desk, and heaved upward!
"Boom!"
A loud boom.
Like a boulder hitting the ground.
In the cramped space it formed an echo, shaking people's eardrums with a buzzing.
After the loud bang, the gunfire ceased.
"All right." Tang Luo clapped twice and walked toward the outside of the office.
In the hallway outside the office, the ceiling and walls were stained red with blood.
The sturdy desk was shattered more than half, with solid wood fragments scattered everywhere.
The remaining part was embedded in the wall, and blood kept seeping out from the cracks.
It was a horrifying scene, as if a grindstone had torn through it, like hell itself.
A man in a white doctor's uniform collapsed onto the floor, his mouth wide open.
His gaze toward Tang Luo was filled with shock.
Just a second before.
He saw a huge black afterimage that truly smashed everyone at the doorway who had intended to rush into the room.
Then it was embedded in the wall.
It was as if a massive siege catapult had hurled the office desk in the room outward!
What happened? How was it done?
Who did it?
Was it done by the three intruders together?
When Tang Luo's gaze fell on him, Jack White, who was still in shock, suddenly reacted and tried to flee.
Just as he turned and stood up, a piercing pain shot through his left leg, he couldn't bear it, and he collapsed to the ground.
Only then did he notice that his left calf had been struck by a piece of broken wood at some point.
Blood poured out.
"Let go of me!"
The three people inside the room heard a sound like a pig being slaughtered.
Then they saw Xuanzang Dashi, with one hand gripping a calf, dragging a man inside.
It left a bloodstain on the floor, though it was unclear whether it belonged to the bespectacled man or to the group outside.
Probably both?
"Gr... gr... great master." Xiao Chu stammered, unable to utter a full sentence.
Zhou Zhen Guo remained calm and asked, "Who is he?"
The one asking was the original owner of this office.
"He's Jack White, that's him!" the man bellowed.
His face bore the delight of revenge.
Just under half a minute ago, he had been abandoned by Jack White.
Now the tides have turned, and it's his turn to take revenge.
"Hello, Mr. Jack."
Tang Luo stepped on Jack White's injured leg to stop his escape attempt, and at the same time picked up a revolver from the ground and opened its cylinder.
He pointed the barrel upward, and Tang Luo poured the bullets inside onto his palm.
He loaded one bullet into the cylinder and threw the remaining two away.
He rotated the cylinder.
Tang Luo pressed the hammer, aimed at Jack White's head, and pulled the trigger.
"Death roulette!"
"Click!"
"Click!"
Ka-cha!
Three sounds, not very continuous.
Three strikes, the hammer each time came back empty.
Your luck isn't bad, Mr. Jack. Tang Luo said to Jack White, "Then let's talk."
Directly saved the meaningless procedure of 'ask first, if the other party doesn't cooperate'.
Hehehe...
Teeth clacking up and down, Jack White's body suddenly went limp on the ground.
A pale yellow liquid spread beneath him.
What did you say!
Say it again!
A few minutes later, Xiao Chu's reproachful voice sounded in the room.
The 'Lucky White' who had experienced the death roulette was very cooperative, speaking without reservation.
Made the communication between both sides very smooth.
But the result was not satisfactory.
To be precise, the result dissatisfied Zhou Zhen Guo and drove Xiao Chu crazy.
Jack White, a senior member of the 'Organization', is its most important researcher.
The Organization has no special name; it is simply called the 'Organization'.
Formed by a group of well-connected officials and dignitaries, important figures.
Its purpose is to research immortality.
Exactly, immortality; no matter the era, for those in power, this word carries a deadly temptation.
The Organization uses mental patients for human experiments.
Over the years, most of the patients gathered by the hospital have become their test subjects.
Moreover, they also secretly abduct people to conduct experiments.
After all, compared to the number of test subjects needed, the patients are still too few.
Over these years, of the missing-person cases, nine out of ten are related to the Organization.
But—
The Organization is not the Jack the Ripper organization that Xiao Chu speculated about.
They indeed dissect people, but not outdoors, not in alleys.
But rather in the hidden underground experimental facility of the hospital, conducting live or corpse dissections, cutting people open.
When Jack the Ripper is mentioned, this doctor also named Jack feels utterly contemptuous.
He kills for the sake of great immortality.
He has risen above lowbrow tastes.
He is worlds apart from that pure madman, Jack the Ripper.
You're not practicing on those people outside, honing your dissection skills, are you? Xiao Chu asked, unwilling to give up.
Ha!
When it comes to his field of expertise, Dr. Jack bursts with energy, 'That crude method of the Ripper—how could it compare to mine? The wounds are just like the tear marks left by beasts! Even a baboon waving a scalpel could do better than him.'
What I've dissected are works of art!
His tone and expression were frenzied.
This Dr. Jack's madness is no less than that of Jack the Ripper.
But he is not the Jack the Ripper that Tang Luo and the others are tasked to find.
Xiao Chu stood aside with an unpleasant expression.
He analyzed with confidence, argued assuredly, and then was struck a harsh blow by reality.
He once had a dream, to plan strategies and place his pieces.
Now, his dream is shattered.
His analysis was as fierce as a tiger, but his practical outcome was zero wins, five losses.
It is indeed a dragon pool and tiger den, indeed very dangerous, but it has nothing to do with the mission.
If it weren't for Master Xuanzang truly flipping the table, even if everyone luckily survived, the outcome would still be utterly miserable.
Zhou Zhen Guo also shook his head and sighed.
Xiao Chu, don't blame yourself.
Tang Luo said, "Although we didn't catch Jack the Ripper, we also discovered an evil organization; it is heaven's will that we utterly exterminate such anti-human, anti-social groups, so let me—as the master—bring this all to an end and restore peace to heaven and earth."
To comfort the spirits of the many victims in heaven!
Punish evil, promote good; merit accrues to oneself.
