Chapter 464: Heavenrend Wyvern of the Rime Tempest

~9 min read 1,747 words

There was no hesitation when Thalion evolved a second time. This time with Eagly. He was only circling ten meters above the water as the screen appeared before him and the surroundings froze, and this time he had multiple options — but only one he wanted to take.

Tempest Glace Eagle (Divine)

On your journey as a wind eagle you have conquered storm and ice. The Tempest Glace Eagle is the most powerful version, combining speed with extreme power output. Summon strong winds to dismantle your enemies. You can cast powerful domain skills with the power to level cities without any effort. Ice, wind and lightning all combined into one make you a threat no one is able to deal with. Every level will grant 20 points to Agility, 5 points to Strength and 50 points to Perception.

Skylord Griffin (Divine)

Griffins are adapted to ice and strong winds, but to be the lord of the sky you have mastered lightning too. Your wings are wider compared to normal griffins, which makes you an agile fighter who is also adapted to fighting on the ground should it be necessary. Domain skills are just one part of your kit, but a powerful one that will make it easy to fight large groups without fearing death. The Skylord Griffin is an all-rounder who excels in everything he does, and he fears no one. Every level will grant 20 points to Agility, 30 points to Strength, 20 points to Toughness, and 30 points to Vitality.

Heavenrend Wyvern of the Rime Tempest (Divine)

The Heavenrend Wyvern is power incarnate. A powerful breath attack with a domain that destroys everything in its path makes the Heavenrend Wyvern of the Rime Tempest the apex predator that cannot be contained. It can fight in any environment but is most attuned to the sky. Its wings are long and its streamlined body is made to fly for hours at high speed without moving a muscle. Even with its size, the mobility isn’t impacted in the slightest. The scales are light as feathers and block any incoming damage with the highest efficiency. The Heavenrend Wyvern of the Rime Tempest does not know fear — only prey. Every level will grant 35 points to Agility, 60 points to Strength, 50 points to Toughness, and 25 points to Vitality.

“Evolution now,” Thalion instantly said when he read through the last option. This was far better than everything he had hoped for, and he had to admit that after experiencing Myrelith, the Serpent Crowned by Tides, he had very high expectations.

The body of the small eagle disappeared and instead a fifteen-meter-long wyvern popped into existence with a wingspan of almost thirty meters. Thalion had already been a wyvern before, but this was something else. Like the serpent he was also very streamlined, and one beat of his wings catapulted him up into the sky.

The other wyvern really had to struggle to fly, while this one really got the power on the road. Not only got it on the road, but there was a lot more in general. Thalion felt like he could unplug a few of the big trees on the distant beach with ease.

Two elegant curved horns were growing from his head. His scales were in a very dark white which would make him very hard to spot in the sky. Well, if it wasn’t for his size, but he liked the color.

Electricity was sparkling around his scales and horns, charging the air around him, and chunks of ice were building on the ocean below. His claws and teeth were crystalline like Eagly’s before, but the crystal in his chest was no longer there.

He wasn’t built like a dragon with four legs and wings on his back, but instead his build reminded more of an eagle, with hind legs and forearms that also functioned as his wings.

Thalion liked how the ends of his wings were turned backwards for faster turns.

From behind his head, backward-curved spines were growing down to the end of his tail. They were tallest on his back while getting tinier the further they ventured down the tail.

When it came to looks this already was a ten out of ten, and then there was the constant power moving through his body. Like with the evolution of the Tidecaller Serpent he just wanted to do something, but first he had to check the skills and get the other evolutions done.

But if this continues, he might even try to fight a chosen right now. Okay it was probably too early but his new forms had a bright future that was for sure.

Heavenrend Wyvern's Bite (Divine)

The Heavenrend Wyvern's Bite isn’t there to leave any witnesses. Biting down on a target will not only crush them entirely while the teeth rip through any armor, but also blast them with powerful lightning that will freeze their organs from the inside.

Claws of the Heavenrend Wyvern (Divine)

The claws of the Heavenrend Wyvern are always charged with power so that even a touch could be fatal, spreading cold lightning through the victim’s body. This skill supercharges this effect, which allows the wyvern to destroy anything in its path. Supercharged mana forms around the claw, increasing its size and lethality drastically.

Titanic Fortitude (Divine)

The Heavenrend Wyvern of the Rime Tempest doesn’t need to dodge attacks. Powerful scales that could rival those of a full-fledged dragon protect his body. Below them powerful muscles move while the bones are extremely tough. The passive skill Titanic Fortitude increases this effect even further, turning the once speed-built wyvern into a true bulwark.

Dominion of the Heavenrend Wyvern (Divine)

Activating this skill will terraform the surroundings within the dominion of the Heavenrend Wyvern. Violent ice-cold winds will stir that freeze anything they pass by while being powerful enough to tear trees out of the ground. The winds will be filled with electric energy that invades everyone in the domain, damaging them further while also freezing them from the inside. The whole area will be overcharged with electricity until powerful lightning rains from the sky. For all others this is a zone of death, but the Heavenrend Wyvern of the Rime Tempest only grows stronger in its own dominion. This domain skill is extremely good at dominating other domains and whittling them down while itself is only rarely affected, showing everyone who the true threat is.

Blessing of the Heavenrend Wyvern (Divine)

Lightning, wind, and ice cannot hurt the Heavenrend Wyvern but instead empower it further and further. Wounds heal faster and all skills increase in effective power output when activated. Mana and stamina regeneration are drastically increased. The passive domain is far more aggressive than normally. The longer the Heavenrend Wyvern of the Rime Tempest channels a skill, the stronger it becomes.

Apocalyptic Breath of the Heavenrend Wyvern (Divine)

When activating this skill the air around the Heavenrend Wyvern of the Rime Tempest will begin to vibrate violently. When the Heavenrend Wyvern of the Rime Tempest opens its mouth, a condensed beam of white lightning shoots outward, perfect for hitting enemies at greater distance. It is the ultimate skill that will deal the most damage. Should it need to hit many at once it can keep the breath going and turn its head, or release a less condensed beam to allow it to cover a bigger area.

Thalion read his new skills with gleaming eyes. It seemed like a few skills had been lost or changed, but considering the outcome Thalion was fine with it. This form felt amazing and on paper it sounded even better.

Thalion remembered how long it had taken to farm experience points in the tutorial and how hard it was. He always had to watch out for predators since one blow would be enough to kill him. This also counted for Eagly and his human form. One slash to the neck and he was a goner.

Now Thalion didn’t think that he would have such problems with his two new forms and all the advantages they came with.

Now the mass murder would be a lot more fun.

Well, Thalion’s eyes almost sprang out when he saw the stats. The increase with Myrelith, the Serpent Crowned by Tides, had already been insane, but the strength and vitality were not normal.

It would make no sense if a heavy warrior would be able to block the swing of a wyvern or defeat it in arm wrestling when the beast was sixteen meters long but damm were those a lot of stats. Maybe the system did a little oopsie?

Not that Thalion wouldn’t be fine with it being a mistake by the system while having nothing to do with the size.

The question was also how much impact those stats would have and how the system even made them up. That he wouldn’t fear going into a strength contest with a human who was two meters tall while he was so much bigger was understandable.

That his health was higher when he had a bigger body was also something he could go with. The only thing he was a bit confused about was the toughness.

Thalion’s guess was that it might be the total toughness from all scales that was the reason why it had climbed so high. If one scale had three thousand toughness, then nothing should go through.

There probably was little sense in tying a knot in his brain by trying to find some logic for why the stats worked the way they did.

In the end he needed to do a proper field test.
