Chapter 9: Piercing Through the Entire Nest City
After speaking earnestly, the officer below still didn't know what was being said on the other end of the Communicator.
But when Horned Man turned around again, the contempt that had been on his face was gone.
Because compared to the scene he had witnessed with his own eyes, he was even more terrified by the image described by his subordinate.
And when he thought of the madman in the Supply Station who had truly stayed there with over a thousand knives, slashing through the whole passage, Horned Man regretted why he had insisted on taking on such a hot potato.
Yet his regret deep inside, under the scolding from the other side of the Communicator, turned into madness.
He looked up again, his eyes only filled with ferocity:
"Full firepower, it's just a Walking Tank, I don't believe it can withstand the firepower and make it back!!!"
Horned Man gave the order, and the officer below executed it immediately; the small and large fire points that had been quiet for a moment resumed firing under the officer's curses.
Physical bullets, energy beams, rockets, and even grenades began to weave a fire net in midair, crazily pounding the Walking Tank.
The entire vehicle was instantly covered by densely exploding sparks.
Though the scene looked spectacular, in Horned Man's eyes behind him, after a brief hesitation, it gradually turned into terror.
"Why... won't it explode?!"
As the Walking Tank under his command, he naturally knew it also had limits.
Facing so much close-range heavy fire coverage, perhaps the Walking Tank could hold out briefly, but it could never endure this long!
And now the Walking Tank not only withstood it, and perhaps it was an illusion, Horned Man even felt the tank was not damaged; after all these barrage shots for so long, they merely helped clean the pattern on its surface.
Only the rocket, which should have scrapped the tank in one shot, barely left a fist-sized dent on the hull.
"How could this be?"
Horned Man couldn't understand, and the scene that followed completely stiffened him!
The grenade machine gun equipped on the tank began to roar!
The tank roared forward, a barrage whose power and density were exaggerated to the extreme, sweeping straight over the crowded crowd ahead.
Then, accompanied by the onlookers' instant pallor, the passage that had held at least a thousand people instantly turned into a corridor of bloodied mud.
Looking across the whole passage, there was only scattered exploding blood mud and some indistinguishable human tissue.
The surviving crew members, seeing such a scene, instantly collapsed to the ground, stared at each other, and could only arrive at one answer:
"Machine Soul, it can't be just great joy......"
Inside Nest City, a suddenly emerging Infantry Regiment of the Star Realm Army turned everything upside down.
But at an outlying position not far from Nest City, as another wave of Planetary Defense Force fell to the ground, the Star Realm Army's supervising officer behind them began to machine‑gun the soldiers who had barely escaped back.
Accompanied by the crisp, intermittent gunfire, on the desk of the Star Realm Army Command Center were pieces of intelligence verified by multiple sources.
The Political Commissar, dressed in splendid uniform, stood aloof with his head held high beside it, while a white‑haired general sat behind the desk, his expression grim.
"So what we face isn't a stray Rebel Forces, but one that comes from an entire Nest City?"
The Political Commissar nodded, and the old general suddenly went limp.
After all, this meant that all the plans he had devised were from the start reduced to suicide missions.
And thinking that he had fought for so long, only to be a meaningless suicide, the old general felt a helplessness as if all his strength had been drained.
He wasn't feeling sorry for the soldiers; after all, isn't everyone loyal to the Emperor?
What frustrated the old general was that, with the planet's situation worsening, he had needlessly wasted so many troops.
Especially that elite unit, far beyond his expectations, which he had personally sent into a Nest City teeming with rebels.
Thinking of this, the old general felt a resentful sense of loss:
"If only we could have used them elsewhere, that would be great."
The old general was helpless, while the Political Commissar, seeing him accept the situation, after a quiet moment reminded:
"Sir, should we halt the next wave of attacks?"
The old general snapped back slightly, paused briefly, and nodded.
Just as he was about to look up and give the order, the main gate slammed open!
Bang!
The old general and the Political Commissar instantly looked over, a panting Messenger Soldier carrying a backpack, holding a parchment toward them.
Without waiting for the old general or Political Commissar to speak, the Messenger Soldier exclaimed excitedly:
"Nest City... Nest City has raised the Empire flag!"
Old General: "???"
Political Commissar: "???"
The two stared at each other, then the Political Commissar stepped forward, took the report, and handed it to the old general.
At the same time, facing the densely packed Displays beside them, he scanned them and pointed to the upper left one:
"Zoom this angle."
The technical officer executed immediately; the image was quickly shifted to the main screen and maximized.
Then the people of the Star Realm Army in the Command Center stared at the image, all widening their eyes.
Over two thousand blood‑soaked soldiers stood on a platform at the ChaoDuTaiding, the massive Empire flag re‑raised, and beside it a Chimera tank, its firepower unknown and terribly battered, sat there.
Although the ordinary soldiers didn't recognize the unit in the footage, when a conspicuous Mechanical Monk appeared, the Political Commissar and the old general were instantly jolted awake by a brief recollection.
"They're still alive?!"
The old general was stunned, but immediately after, he sprang upright from behind the desk.
He also looked at the Political Commissar beside him, seeing the same shock on their face.
Because, compared to Xisi still being alive, the other message conveyed by the footage now was even more terrifying.
"They… couldn't be…"
"Pierced through the entire Nest City?"
The old general murmured in disbelief, and even the Political Commissar, though as hard‑hearted as iron, couldn't help but take a deep breath to soothe the shock in his heart.
The entire Command Center was silent, and only after a long while did the old general sit back down, his face showing even greater helplessness:
"What a pity."
The Political Commissar also lowered his head slightly, his expression somber:
"If only it had been earlier......"
The two did not finish speaking, because at that moment a sudden howl rose overhead, bringing a violent rumble across the ground.
Immediately after came a deluge of anti‑air fire, all aimed at the sky.
The old general's expression recovered; ignoring the dust that fell from above, he organized the military report and moved the blue flag representing his side on the map far back, toward the direction away from the Nest City where Xisi was.
Beyond the red flag that originally represented the Rebel Forces, there were countless green flags, dozens of them as massive as cities, and a green tide that covered the whole map beyond the "city".
After completing all this, the old general's gaze finally fell on the lone, isolated blue pennant far from the main force; after a slight hesitation, he sighed:
"Send them a fighter jet to relay the battle situation, and the rest will be up to them."
At the ChaoDuTaiding, Xisi watched the fighter jet whoosh overhead, drop a package, and then dart back as if fleeing; his expression had already darkened.
Not far away, Bunoke, accompanied by a few soldiers, retrieved the package, opened it for a quick inspection, and then returned to Xisi's side holding a small booklet.
First was a military report:
"The Command Center's news said another group of Alien Form enemies had arrived, and our main force was contracting the control zone."
Alien Form?
Xisi was startled; Alien Form meant an extraterrestrial species.
And an alien species that has managed to survive under human rule for the 42nd millennium and remains active, each bearing "unique abilities" that, once encountered, can cause humans to radiate sincere smiles from within.
Tai Jun excluded......
Only Bunoke's face lacked Xisi's gloom; instead, he lifted another small booklet, his expression casual:
"However, I looked at the Military Affairs Department's issued combat manual for Alien Forms, and this group of Alien Forms isn't much at all."
Seeing Bunoke's confidence, Xisi frowned and took the booklet, which indeed bore the Military Affairs Department's authoritative seal.
But when Xisi, half in doubt, opened it, the first sentence that came into his view left him completely stunned:
"When facing Green Skin, the brave Empire soldiers in close combat can perform a shoulder throw, easily toppling the opponent......"
"Huh???"
Looking up and frowning, Xisi could only wonder at how the text could be combined in such a way:
"Green Skin? Close combat? Shoulder throw???"
