Chapter 327

The quality of a film is never determined by one person.

It depends on the entire creative team, including the director, actors, screenwriter, photography, and logistics.

But even in Hollywood, the number of excellent film crews that can be born every year is still countable.

And the combination of Lin Nan and Leonardo undoubtedly met the core requirements of an excellent film project.

That is, a top director, screenwriter, plus top actors.

Relatively speaking, the team modules such as photography and logistics were much simpler.

……

The media and industry insiders back home almost couldn't contact Lin Nan, feeling a bit anxious.

So Yue Jun and Jiang Xuerou, two company executives who often appeared, became the targets of being surrounded and intercepted.

"Sorry, I really don't know the specific situation. I can't get involved in Crystal Pictures' affairs, and Lin Dao hasn't told me either."

When Yue Jun accepted an interview with reporters, he was very humorous, which was also a fact.

Even the housekeeper of Lin Nan Pictures said he didn't understand, so only one name remained in everyone's mind, Liu Yifei!

What Yue Jun knew, Liu Yifei must know. What Yue Jun didn't know, that person must also know.

After all, that is "Crystal" Pictures!

Reporters could only continuously send interview invitations to Red Star Dock.

A small number of actors in the industry could directly contact Liu Yifei.

"Xixi, is it true that Lin Dao is going to cooperate with Leonardo?"

Li Bingbing, who had some old friendship, asked Liu Yifei decisively.

"Yes, the film project is set. But I can't help with the casting, and I can't get involved. If you have any ideas, you can only wait for Lin Nan's news."

"Then, okay, thank you, Yifei. Didn't Lin Dao leave a role for you?" Li Bingbing probed.

"No, he said there was no one suitable for me."

Liu Yifei knew there was a lover role in that movie, but Lin Nan refused her.

Hearing Liu Yifei's answer, Li Bingbing was obviously relieved and asked again: "Then are there any suitable female roles?"

"Well, there are..."

The details of these films were not secrets that couldn't be revealed, so Liu Yifei didn't hide much, after all, they were all acquaintances.

It was as if he were showing everyone his proudest, most outstanding work, looking quite excited.

A few minutes later, Li Bingbing ended the call excitedly, and then Zhou Xun's call also came in.

…………

"Starting a foreign language film!"

Yang Mi muttered to herself.

She always knew where the company's biggest cake was, it was in Hollywood.

"Don't think about it, it won't be our turn."

Ceng Jia spoke directly to discourage her.

She even went to ask Yue Jun with a glimmer of luck in the morning, but only got a lukewarm answer, "Don't think too much."

Yue Jun's tone carried a trace of disgust and indifference, which made Ceng Jia unable to step down at the time.

"That's Leonardo, the film is highly likely to be taken to a film festival, right?"

Yang Mi seemed not to have heard Ceng Jia's words and sighed again.

"So what if it is, what does it have to do with you. Let's follow our own plan."

No actress doesn't yearn for that side. Ceng Jia certainly understood Yang Mi's psychology, but some things can only be thought about.

"Yeah, it has nothing to do with me, isn't she still in front. Let's touch up the makeup, it's about to start filming..."

Ceng Jia nodded with a smile. Unrealistic emotions come fast and go fast, this is the Yang Mi in her eyes!

…………

Crystal Pictures.

Lin Nan browsed the emails; there were quite a few brokerage companies and industry artists back home probing.

A group of people were all cats who smelled fishy, each more eager than the other.

Even Little Zhang Ziyi thought she was in Hollywood and had the advantage of being close to the water.

In just two days, she had contacted Lin Nan several times.

The excuse at the beginning was to treat him to dinner, and finally, she just directly asked about the film, the purpose was very clear.

However, Lin Nan didn't loosen his mouth to give a role or any promise, only saying that there would be auditions later.

"Boss, should we announce the news of the film casting to the outside world now?"

A young white girl knocked on the door and asked.

"Well, okay."

Lin Nan nodded; Leonardo didn't recommend many, mainly relying on auditions.

For this film, Appian Way will participate in the investment, which is also Leonardo's consistent style and treatment.

In less than half a day, both Crystal Pictures and the Screen Actors Guild issued notices.

"Jointly produced by Crystal Pictures and Appian Way, the film *The Invisible Guest* is publicly accepting actor auditions, those interested can send an email..."

In the notice, there was not only an explanation of the film, but also detailed requirements for the audition roles, including Lin Nan and Leonardo, the two confirmed director and male lead.

There were quite a few actors flocking to it.

From the afternoon, Crystal Pictures' mailbox received emails one after another, more and more.

When this news spread back to the country again, the hearts of the film industry finally landed.

Lin Nan really launched a new film project, as everyone thought, it was a foreign language film.

And it was his first cooperation with Leonardo as a director!

Almost all first-line actresses in the mainland focused their attention on that big supporting role, the lover role.

In the audition requirements for this role, there were no messy, rigid restrictions.

"*The Invisible Guest*?"

"Hearing this name, and looking at this lineup, you know it's prepared for the film festival!"

"Rare, Lin Dao actually didn't designate his own producer Liu this time, is it inappropriate?"

"Maybe it's really inappropriate..."

……

Many actresses in the country didn't think much, almost all holding thoughts of luck and expectation, and sent emails.

"This guy is quite capable of keeping secrets, setting a new film without a sound. It's only now that casting is happening that it's made public."

Others at most cared about the roles, while several state-owned enterprises regretted not having the opportunity to participate in the investment, these were all political achievements.

Directors in the industry were mostly jealous of Lin Nan.

Although everyone said on their lips that making good Chinese-language films was the right thing to do, if they could really go to Hollywood, who would refuse?

…………

According to practice, the Oscar Best Foreign Language Film Award announced the nomination list first.

Sure enough, after the Golden Globes, Chen Kaige's *Caught in the Web* was not selected again and was not on the nomination list.

The news spread back to the country, and there was another sigh in the industry, and the previous glimmer of fantasy was completely shattered.

Carefully calculated, since Zhang Yimou's *Hero*, Chinese-language films have been missed the Oscar Best Foreign Language Film nomination for 10 consecutive years.

The Film Bureau even held a seminar specifically for this matter for the first time.

I really don't know what content was discussed at such a meeting.

Lin Nan looked at the email from the country and couldn't help laughing out loud.

"The big actresses are really not missing one, they are all here, and there are so many newcomers!"

Li Bingbing, Fan Bingbing, Zhou Xun... Zhao Yanzi, Zhang Yuqi, Han Xue, Gao Yuanyuan, Yu Nan... Ni Ni...

Little Zhang Ziyi's audition email was sent from Hollywood, which was quite formal.

To be honest, Lin Nan really didn't expect that the country would send audition emails, after all, it was across the Pacific Ocean.

Did he really let them fly over to audition?

It was okay if it was suitable to let people come with such great fanfare, but if none of them were chosen, it would be too ostentatious, and Lin Nan might be sprayed by the media for tossing his own people.

"Sigh, forget it, video audition, there must be a response..."

After thinking for a while, Lin Nan made this decision and instructed his subordinates to reply to the emails.

Because of the time difference, the time for this video audition was really hard to arrange, but Lin Nan's side must be during the day.

…………

Soon, domestic media reported it.

"It is reported that a group of domestic actresses auditioned for Lin Dao Nan's new work, the Hollywood film *The Invisible Guest*, and without exception, they were all wiped out."

"Little Zhang Ziyi, who is at the Oscars and participating in the award judging, also failed the audition..."

……

"Good guy, is it so strict! All rejected?"

"Indeed harsh, not a single one succeeded!"

……

Under Liu Yifei's Weibo, it was already very lively.

"Very curious, which actors did Lin Dao finally choose?"

"Yifei, help us ask, very curious."

"Why was Fan Bingbing rejected, where is she lacking?"

……

Liu Yifei returned after attending the jewelry exhibition and just took a shower.

Seeing so many people leaving messages and tagging her, she simply sat on the sofa and started scrolling through Weibo.

"Don't know, wait for me to go over and ask him, I'll tell you later."

A unified reply instantly attracted a large number of netizens and fans to watch.

"Damn, a real person replied!"

"Is Producer Liu also going to Hollywood? Accompanying Lin Dao, or for work?"

"Are you coming back for New Year's Eve? Looking forward to meeting you and Lin Dao in the mall!"

……

Liu Yifei was also in high spirits and really started chatting.

"Going to see him, and there is some work by the way. If the film can finish filming before New Year's Eve, we will come back."

……

"Don't know what Aunt Liu thinks when she hears this, her daughter is going to accompany that person again this year!"

"What can the mother-in-law think? That's the son-in-law!"

……

The next day, media reporters photographed Liu Yifei at the airport.

A pair of sunglasses covered most of her face, wearing a thin white shirt on the upper body, covered with a khaki trench coat.

High-waisted casual pants with a pair of white sneakers, long hair draped over her shoulders, looking very dashing.

Followed by two female assistants, pushing two large suitcases.

When she saw the reporters, she also cooperated by raising her scissors hands, revealing a sweet smile.

"Liu Yifei appeared at Capital Airport today, suspected of flying directly to Hollywood..."

…………

Lin Nan was invited to attend the PR reception for Ang Lee's *Life of Pi*.

To be honest, he only knew before that Oscar-contending films needed to find specialized PR companies, but he had never been in contact with these companies.

From Ang Lee's side, Lin Nan had a deeper understanding of some specific operations.

According to the film type and the number of awards the film declared, a proprietary PR plan would be formulated.

PR companies even had to conduct specific screening of those thousands of Academy judges.

Then list a list, which would classify and mark the different preferences of the Academy judges, and the intensity of PR needed.

An excellent film, from the moment it signs up for the Oscars, must start preparing for PR, the first step is to be shortlisted for the nomination list, and then it is the winning list.

In these two stages, money must be spent, and the further back, the more money is spent.

But spending money is not giving money directly, but "spending money" in various ways.

Starting from the subtle, you can send gifts, but you can't send money or valuables directly, this is a science.
