Chapter 2149: Maybe there will be a big harvest

The conversation with the chief lasted only ten minutes, but Li Yalin seemed to have aged ten years all at once.

He knew the mayor's intention very well. Even if he didn't directly blame him, in the eyes of the public, he was still the one taking the blame.

And forcing him to retire early was the punishment for him.

By then, they would play up his contributions to New York, subtly releasing a message to the public: although Old Li didn't handle this matter well, this old brother has been working diligently for the citizens of New York for many years and can be considered to have made great contributions. Now that this old brother knows he was wrong and voluntarily requested early retirement, everyone should not be too hard on him for the sake of his hard work for New York for most of his life.

Generally speaking, the public buys this.

It's like the security guard in your own community who has worked diligently for half his life. He has been trying his best to protect the safety of this community for half his life, but he accidentally let in a group of thieves just before retirement. Who can blame him for anything?

Thinking of this, Li Yalin admired the mayor immensely.

This mayor, although not Chinese, had also been a policeman for 22 years, and his methods were very powerful.

This time, he used him to perform a feat of "four ounces to move a thousand pounds."

With such great public anger, only by throwing him out to play the emotional card and take the pitiful route could he overcome hardness with softness.

For Li Yalin himself, although this method made him feel humiliated, he had no other choice at the moment.

Therefore, he picked up the walkie-talkie and issued his last order as a detective, ordering all special operations team members to withdraw from the Fei Group headquarters building immediately.

The withdrawal of the special operations team officially announced the failure of this arrest operation.

Media reporters were waiting for the police spokesperson to come out and explain the situation. Li Yalin, who looked more than ten years older, stepped in front of all the media reporters.

At this time, countless reporters were holding their long guns and short cannons, trying their best to loudly ask Li Yalin all kinds of questions.

Li Yalin stretched out his hands to signal everyone to be quiet, and then said, "I am very sorry for taking up your time and the time of the Fei Group. Our arrest operation this time has been declared a failure due to errors in intelligence and decision-making. Now the special operations team has withdrawn, and the Fei Group will soon be able to resume normal office order."

Media reporters still wanted to ask questions, but Li Yalin said directly, "I know what everyone wants to ask. The mistake this time mainly lies with me. I have recently suffered great negative impacts on my physical and mental health, and I am also old, so I am indeed not suitable to continue to be responsible for such a major case. Therefore, I have resigned to Mayor Adams and applied for early retirement."

The media reporters at the scene were stunned when they heard this.

No one expected that this Chinese detective, who had always had a very good reputation, would suddenly announce his early retirement.

Li Yalin said with a face full of shame, "Regarding the recent cases in New York, I personally express my deep apologies. Failing to predict the crime in advance and stop it is my dereliction of duty as a policeman. Here, I want to say sorry to the people of New York and the whole United States!"

Having said this, Li Yalin bowed deeply to the camera.

Then, without waiting for the media reporters to ask questions, he turned around and left the scene by car under the cover of several policemen.

Soon, the news of Li Yalin's announcement of early retirement was reported by major media.

Ye Chen, who was quietly watching Gu Qiuyi's rehearsal, also received a push notification of this news.

Seeing this information, his expression was slightly surprised, but soon returned to normal.

Ye Chen had no grudge against Li Yalin and did not want him to retire early in this way from the bottom of his heart, but the Fei Haoyang incident put the two on opposite sides, so the contradiction could not be unified. One of them had to bear the bitter fruit of failure for this matter, and Ye Chen naturally did not want it to be himself.

Moreover, Li Yalin had already traced the clues to Chen Zhaozhong's restaurant. Now that he was retiring early, Ye Chen thought it was a good thing. At least he would not bring too much pressure to Chen Zhaozhong in the future.

On the way back to the police station, his good friend An Chongqiu also called, asking with concern, "Old Li, what's the situation? Were you used as a scapegoat by the higher-ups?"

"Yes." Li Yalin gave a bitter smile and said, "This wave of public opinion offensive was too fierce, and they could only push me, an old guy, out to gain some sympathy."

An Chongqiu sighed and said, "Actually, you shouldn't have investigated those murderers in the first place..."

Li Yalin said helplessly, "The wood is already a boat; it's too late to say these things now. Besides, my personality doesn't allow me to turn a blind eye to this kind of crime of violence with violence."

An Chongqiu gave a hum and asked him, "Then what are your plans next?"

Li Yalin said, "I'm going back to the police station to hand over my work now, and I will officially start my retirement and pension tomorrow."

As he spoke, he remembered something and said, "Is the old man doing better now? Why don't I go to Los Angeles to see him? He was seriously ill this time, and I didn't go to see him. It's really a bit unjustifiable."

An Chongqiu said, "Don't bother going to Los Angeles. The old lady wants to go to New York to see Miss Gu's concert, and the requirement is that we children must also be present. The old man was persuaded by her, and we will go there together tomorrow at noon." ===== CHAPTER 2150 =====
