Chapter 123: Lin Zhi Jing Goes into Heat
With the Light Brain, the usually lively home suddenly grew quiet; everyone huddled in their new beds and blankets, playing with their new Light Brains—all of this felt utterly novel to them.
Except Lin Zhi Jing.
Lin Zhi Jing frowned, savoring the long-lost quiet; back in the lab he'd most loved the quiet, independent setting, but at Ye Xi'an's place it was noisy every day, and now the sudden silence—no more Bao Jing's sarcastic jabs, no Yi Yang shouting like an idiot—left him feeling out of sorts.
He swung his legs off the bed and knocked on Ye Xi'an's door.
Ye Xi'an was focused on designing her room; the screen showed four people online. Hearing the knock, she kept her hands moving and shouted, "Who's there!"
"It's me."
Lin Zhi Jing's voice was cold, yet pleasant to hear.
"Then come in."
Lin Zhi Jing pushed the door open and entered, watching Ye Xi'an continuously swipe the screen, and asked, "What are you doing?"
"Designing my room," Ye Xi'an said, tilting her head toward Lin Zhi Jing, her round pupils like a cat's: "How'd you come over?"
Lin Zhi Jing walked over and sat on Ye Xi'an's bed; the mattress gave a muffled sigh as it sank: "Bored—I just came to see what you're up to."
He saw Ye Xi'an gave no reaction, so he kept probing her limits, shifting closer toward her, lifting the blanket and sliding in beside her—yet Ye Xi'an still showed no response.
Lin Zhi Jing: …… Ye Xi'an still gave no reaction, and he was about to react.
He deliberately relaxed his body, shifting his hips until his legs and torso were fully pressed against Ye Xi'an.
"Honey."
"Huh?" Ye Xi'an replied without even looking at him.
But that reply still made Lin Zhi Jing happy.
"I'll sleep with you tonight."
Hearing Lin Zhi Jing say he wanted to sleep with her, Ye Xi'an paused, somewhat unwilling; she still preferred to sleep alone: "You've got your own bed—why do you need to sleep with me?"
"You don't want to sleep with me?" Lin Zhi Jing said firmly: "Why—don't you love me?"
Ye Xi'an was utterly stunned, giving Lin Zhi Jing a strange look.
Lin Zhi Jing wasn't wearing his glasses now; his gray eyes seemed to shimmer with a watery sheen, his long lashes slightly drooping, drawing a tempting curve at the outer corners.
Beneath his normally pallid skin lay a faint flush, especially noticeable around the eyes and chin, where the red stood out sharply.
His gaze locked onto her like a GPS: when her head tilted left, his eyes followed left; when it tilted right, his followed right—but his expression remained perpetually wooden.
Something's off—way off. Although Lin Zhi Jing occasionally speaks oddly, he'd never look at her the way Yi Yang does.
Recalling what the soldiers at the training base had told her about the Gray Brow Snake, Ye Xi'an's expression turned slightly fearful; she shifted back silently, putting distance between herself and Lin Zhi Jing: "Lin Zhi Jing, are you all right?"
Could it be that he's about to go into heat?
Lin Zhi Jing said nothing; he felt a bit hot. He'd originally come over just out of boredom and loneliness, but after lingering a while, catching Ye Xi'an's faint scent, his mind grew foggy, his eyes seemed to burn as if touched by flame, and he felt himself slipping into abnormality.
He was in heat.
But today wasn't supposed to be his heat day—could Ye Xi'an's Spiritual Mark have disrupted his cycle?
"Ye Xi'an."
Lin Zhi Jing's voice hoarse and frightening, he suppressed emotions Ye Xi'an couldn't read.
Lin Zhi Jing went on, not hiding his vulnerability at all: "I'm in heat—if you don't help me, I'll die."
"Hea‑hea‑hea‑heat?!"
Ye Xi'an was so shocked she flipped straight off the bed onto the floor, scrambled up, and stared wide‑eyed.
Although the Original Owner's memories held no recollection of going into heat, Ye Xi'an roughly understood what it meant—after all, she'd read plenty of novels for nothing.
So does Lin Zhi Jing now want her to sleep with him?
But she doesn't sleep with people—yet this is her newly‑wedded husband, set in stone, and she feels she ought to sleep with him.
What should she do—sleep with him or not?
As Ye Xi'an's mind waged an internal battle, Lin Zhi Jing had already begun stripping off his clothes on his own.
His gray‑white undershirt was pulled up by a pair of knuckle‑prominent hands to his broad male shoulders, forming a tempting straight line; below lay a chest that glowed white, his bone structure perfect, his muscle a thin layer.
He yanked off the shirt and then started pulling down his pants.
Ye Xi'an lunged forward to stop his frantic hands: "No! Lin Zhi Jing, wait a moment!"
Lin Zhi Jing's eye corners grew ever redder, his lips shifting from a pale pink to a tempting vivid red, like a cherry waiting to be swallowed.
"Why wait?"
"I—!" Ye Xi'an didn't know what to say, why did she have to face this!
"How about we go see a doctor? Maybe a shot would fix it?"
Lin Zhi Jing froze, silent, just quietly watching Ye Xi'an.
Ye Xi'an felt guilty under his stare; she of course knew she was talking nonsense, since Lin Zhi Jing himself was a doctor—he couldn't even go to a quack clinic.
She pouted, eyes full of turmoil, and asked again: "Is there really no other way?"
Lin Zhi Jing silently shook his head: "Either you sleep with me, or I die."
"Honey, you wouldn't be that cruel, would you?"
He said this while pulling his hand back from Ye Xi'an and continued taking off his pants.
"All right!" Ye Xi'an closed her eyes and gave her final demand: "But not in my room."
Ye Xi'an lunged onto Lin Zhi Jing, and in the next second she fell from her own bed onto his black silk sheets.
Lin Zhi Jing could hold back no longer; he embraced Ye Xi'an and began kissing her.
At that moment, next door, Bao Jing—focused on designing his room—paused, sensing a male's heat scent nearby.
Could someone be in heat?
Feeling uneasy, he put away his Light Brain and went to look for Yi Yang.
"Brother Bao!"
After knowing Bao Jing was level four, Yi Yang also changed to calling him brother.
Seeing Yi Yang's normal appearance, Bao Jing knew it wasn't him who was in heat.
"Did you smell anything?"
A Labrador's sense of smell is much sharper than a falcon's; perhaps he could detect it.
Yi Yang lifted his head, carefully discerned the scent in the air, followed the smell to Lin Zhi Jing's door, and said firmly: "It's the scent of heat."
Moreover, it seems Lin Zhi Jing is the one in heat.
Bao Jing said nothing, quickly turned and went to Ye Xi'an's room, but did not see Ye Xi'an's figure.
"Where is my wife?"
Yi Yang's heart jumped: "He couldn't be in Doctor Lin's room, could he?"
