Chapter 120: The Gap Between Reality and Expectation
"I'm such a good boy…"
Zhao De, who followed Zhang Su onto the vehicle, stared wide-eyed; his old low-status mindset made him dare not touch the maple wood furniture, afraid of breaking it and being forced to pay compensation.
"TV, refrigerator—I'm gonna cry, Brother Su, this is what life should be!"
Lu Yubo walked to the refrigerator, trembling as he pulled open the door; inside, dozens of imported beers were neatly stacked, the text on them unreadable, but the elegant bottles clearly signaled they weren't cheap, while on either side sat cans of cola!
It seemed this vehicle hadn't been placed here just for show—perhaps the dealership owner had used it before.
"Wow, Xiao Shan, there's a bathroom here, and a shower… a showerhead!"
The two women, as if they'd discovered a treasure, hugged each other and jumped with laughter.
"Cough! You all know what we're looking for now, right?"
Zhang Su wasn't lost in the luxurious décor and amenities; he rummaged everywhere, searching for the so-called arms storage.
Hearing Zhang Su's words, the others snapped back to reality and immediately settled their minds to search thoroughly.
The little Corgi had somehow also climbed aboard; it watched Zhang Su rummaging everywhere, tilted its head in thought for a moment, then joined in the search.
"Brother Su, there doesn't seem to be anything inside…"
Zhao De walked to the rear of the vehicle and found a bedroom, with a standard double bed inside, its sheets as white and pristine as new; he flipped up the mattress—nothing there.
"The interior space doesn't add up, Brother Su!"
The group walked into the bedroom; Zheng Xinyu tilted her head and glanced at the driver's cabin: "From outside, this vehicle is very long—yet the interior space… there should be another section behind!"
She pointed to the wall behind the head of the bed.
"Xinyu's right—I also felt the interior was too short!" Zhao De nodded in agreement.
At twelve meters long, this vehicle was over a meter longer than two Mercedes S-Class cars end to end; calling its interior spacious was inadequate—it was magnificent for a vehicle.
Zhang Su also sensed the issue Zheng Xinyu mentioned, but he had no manual and no beautiful car model to explain it to him—he could only explore slowly himself.
"Look for buttons—nothing'll break, just try everything!"
As Zhang Su spoke, he walked to the driver's seat and started the vehicle; glancing at the fuel gauge, he found it was three-quarters full, giving a range of seven hundred kilometers—totally awesome!
Everyone frantically pressed buttons and indeed discovered unusual features: many visible furnishings could retract into the floor, even the large double bed could sink beneath the floor.
The furniture didn't just retract into the floor—the cabin also had a three-to-four-meter section that could extend outward, further expanding the interior space; according to the label beside the button, the extension could only be used when the vehicle was stationary.
After a series of operations, a sunshade unfolded from the roof, creating a simple outdoor camping area outside, leaving everyone astonished.
Yet even so, they still hadn't found how to access the mysterious area behind the bedroom…
"Damn, I'm such an idiot!"
Zhang Su scratched his head, walked to the driver's cabin, and suddenly spotted a button labeled "open trunk"—it all clicked; he'd forgotten such a simple, direct design.
"Found it!"
Without hesitation, he pressed the trunk-opening button; a faint hum of electric motors came from the rear.
As everyone rushed off the vehicle to peer into the rear compartment, they realized just how backward they were—a Porsche sports car sat perfectly parked inside the RV's trunk!
"One car shocks me ten times!"
Lu Yubo stood dumbfounded.
Zheng Xinyu reached out and touched the Porsche's rear fender: "An RV is pregnant with a sports car—Wuhu! A love that crosses species!"
Zhang Su was just marveling at the lavishness of the rich when Zheng Xinyu's bizarre imagination stunned him.
He glanced at the odd Zheng Xinyu, then stepped into the garage to inspect it; after rummaging again, he still found no firearms—until he looked down and his eyes lit up!
"There's something fishy underneath!"
Zhang Su stomped his foot.
Judging by the garage's height, it stood nearly a meter off the ground; the space beneath—some fifty centimeters—was highly suspicious.
"Wu wang!"
While everyone searched, the Corgi gently scratched at a spot on the carpet and barked at Zhang Su.
When everyone lifted the carpet, they found a hidden button beneath.
"Damn, Brother Su, this dog's amazing—how does it know everything?"
Lu Yubo and the others stared at the Corgi, lying beside them, with disbelief.
"It's earned us several favors today—don't bully it; if there's food, share some with it!"
As Zhang Su spoke, he lifted the panel and pressed the button; the Porsche shuddered slightly, and the entire floor began slowly rising!
Soon, the floor reached its peak, about fifty centimeters high, revealing a double-sided storage rack above, lined with numerous hooks designed to hold firearms.
"This…"
The long-awaited arms storage lay before them—but most of the hooks were empty; only three handguns hung lonely in the corner, like abandoned orphans.
"Oh well!"
Zhang Su shrugged helplessly, reluctantly took down the three handguns, examined them closely, and said: "Heckler & Koch USP—you all know the USP from Counter-Strike? This is it!"
"Holy shit, that's awesome, big brother!"
Zhao De was the only one who reacted, since the others had never played Counter-Strike.
"Awesome? Effective kill range is only seventy to eighty meters—worse than my crossbow…"
Zhang Su patted the crossbow slung over his shoulder and gestured beside him: "Look at the rack's design—there were definitely automatic rifles and submachine guns here before. What a shame."
"Be grateful, big brother—it's still a handgun! I'll tell you, someone like me who doesn't know guns? I'd be more terrified of a handgun than a crossbow. To me, a crossbow's just a toy—hey, let me touch it."
Zhao De grinned broadly, his eyes fixed on the handgun in Zhang Su's hand.
Zhang Su realized—he'd been dissatisfied with only three handguns because he'd assumed the group was large; if he'd been traveling with Zheng Xinyu and Zhong Xiaoshan, each would have one—still quite powerful.
"These guns are well-maintained."
Zhang Su, awkwardly handling them, removed the magazine—empty—and handed the gun to Zhao De.
"Brother Su, how do we divide these guns?" Lu Yubo asked the most critical question.
"First, check how many bullets we have left—we can make our own crossbow bolts, but we can't make bullets!"
Zhang Su crouched and opened a box beneath; inside, neatly stacked boxes of. 0 S&W ammunition filled it—roughly five hundred rounds at least.
"Bullets are decent—these are the lowest-recoil. 0 S&W rounds, good power too. Hmm? Look, there are also some 5. 6x45mm rounds left—there must've been automatic rifles here before!"
Zhang Su stood up, slightly frustrated: "Originally, I planned to distribute evenly by headcount—but now we only have three handguns, so we distribute by need. For now, we're certain: sentries must rotate with firearms. The rest we'll decide later!"
Everyone agreed with the proposal.
"Three guns, two crossbows—big brother, I doubt any other survivor group out there is better equipped!"
Zhao De reluctantly returned the handgun to Zhang Su, a proud smile on his face.
Handguns couldn't compare to submachine guns or automatic rifles—they were weak against zombies—but in a country with extreme gun control, they were still terrifyingly powerful.
When most survivors couldn't even find a decent weapon, being pointed at by a handgun or crossbow meant zero chance of survival!
"Even with guns, we can't let our guard down. Even a lion uses full force against a rabbit. Don't forget who you are just because you're holding a gun—there are countless cases of people failing in the dirtiest ways!"
Zhang Su wasn't overly excited—reality had fallen short of expectations.
