Chapter 121: The Genius Player Zhao De

~7 min read 1,211 words

After restoring the RV garage, Zhang Su and his group returned to the parking lot and gathered everyone together.

He noticed Zhang Ya standing alone to one side, seemingly unable to connect with the others; this was hardly surprising—suddenly joining a group made it difficult to integrate quickly, even in the past.

"As planned, after leaving here, we head north out of the city and find a scenic resort or a farmstay to settle down—that's our goal, but the journey may be winding!"

"Don't let our ample supplies make you complacent—the more resources we have, the more we must watch for enemies lurking in the shadows. Haven't you forgotten what happened this morning? Our vehicle was stolen, and all our supplies vanished!"

"After leaving the zombie-dense city, the greatest threat will be humans with ill intentions!"

As he spoke, Zhang Su's gaze drifted unconsciously toward Zhang Ya, noticing she had lowered her eyes, lost in thought.

"Bo, you've always wanted that Harley cruiser out front, right? Here's your chance—get it over here within five minutes, and I'll clear out the RV garage to store motorcycles. Deal?"

Deal?

Lu Yubo didn't hesitate—he bolted off, startling the corgi sitting nearby, who leapt up.

"Bro, I'll help you, haha!"

Zhao De was eager—he also loved that motorcycle and feared Lu Yubo couldn't handle it alone, so he sprinted after him at once.

Zhang Su had already planned to remove the Porsche sports car attached to the VS RV; in this environment, such a high-performance vehicle was useless—even without the Harley cruiser, loading supplies would be far more practical than hauling a car!

But…

Just as Zhang Su was about to instruct everyone to perform the final vehicle check, Lu Yubo and Zhao De rushed back into the yard, their faces clearly panicked.

"Bro Su, trouble! We need to go—there's a horde of zombies coming from over there!"

Lu Yubo sprinted to the group and pointed south down the road: "There—a huge group of zombies, too many to count, far more than the ones we faced this morning in Yileiwen!"

Every time Zhang Su heard about a zombie horde, his heart tightened. He instinctively glanced at Zhang Ya and saw fear on her face too—he realized this situation had surpassed her expectations.

"Xinyu, Xiaoshan, Xiao Xue, Wu Lue—you four open the gates. Who can drive the Ford Motorhome? Just don't flip it."

Though anxious, Zhang Su directed everyone calmly and methodically—this was precisely when composure mattered most.

The Ford Motorhome was slightly smaller than the Mercedes RV, about ten meters long, and its handling difficulty reached the level of a medium-sized bus—most drivers couldn't manage it.

Tan Huajun immediately raised his hand: "I have a B2 license—can I drive it?"

"You're it—go now! Everyone, get in the vehicles—minimum three people per vehicle. Zhang Ya, come with me!"

With the order given, everyone moved—seemingly chaotic, yet orderly; this was the difference between having a leader and having none!

Less than three minutes later, four vehicles rolled out of the Yihé Auto Yard, and the zombie horde from the south had already entered the hundred-meter range.

Zhang Su, driving the Mercedes RV, glanced at the horde—though not as massive as the previous ten-thousand-strong horde, it likely numbered one or two thousand, and from their clothing, most appeared to be students!

From past experience, a person's physical condition before death influenced their post-transformation strength; the difference was subtle among adults, but stark between young, strong zombie youths and elderly, frail zombie seniors.

"Which school collapsed?"

Zhang Su muttered as he steered.

Zhong Xiaoshan beside him said: "Qincheng No. 3 High is nearby, and it's a boarding school—probably… Bro Su, hurry, the zombies spotted us!"

Before Zhong Xiaoshan finished speaking, the zombies ahead began accelerating toward the auto yard; whether due to perspective or not, those student zombies seemed to move half a step faster than ordinary ones.

"Hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry!"

Zhang Su muttered, ignoring the central barrier—he swerved sharply and drove north!

"Damn it, who's driving the Prado?"

Zhang Su glared at the rearview mirror and cursed.

Behind him, the Mercedes G-Class turned smoothly and followed, but the Prado behind it slammed into the greenery—worse, its two front wheels were lifted by the barrier, spinning uselessly no matter how hard the driver revved the engine.

"It's Zhao De…"

Yu Qing said from inside the RV's living area.

"Damn, what a genius!"

Zhang Su was furious—he couldn't possibly turn back now. If communication worked, he could've ordered the Mercedes G-Class to push the Prado free, but from its speed, it showed no intention of helping—or perhaps hadn't even noticed the Prado's predicament.

"Save him? Save him? Don't save him…"

Zhang Su gripped the steering wheel tightly, his mind in fierce turmoil—yet before he could decide, he burst into wild laughter.

"Hahaha! Lao Tan, awesome! Lao Tan, you're amazing!"

In the rearview mirror, Tan Huajun's Ford Motorhome had turned sharply and angled into the Prado's rear side—just enough force—CRASH! It shoved the Prado out of the greenery and onto the sidewalk. Though the Prado was battered and twisted, it eventually regained its proper trajectory.

Meanwhile, the pursuing zombies had already grabbed the Ford Motorhome's rear!

Zhang Su could see over a dozen zombies fearlessly lunging at the Ford's tail, only to fall flat—the RV's rear was smooth, offering no grip for them.

"Zhao De's a useless dog—he owes Lao Tan his life!"

"Not just Zhao De, Bro Su—it looks like Pei Lan and Lu Yubo are also on that vehicle…"

Zheng Xinyu mused.

"Who cares! Everyone on that vehicle owes Lao Tan their life! Damn it—if Lao Tan hadn't been last, that whole crew would've been dead! Shit…"

As he spoke, the Mercedes RV lurched violently. Zhang Su shouted: "Stop talking to me—the road's getting complicated!"

Beyond the street of Yihé Auto Yard, buildings lined both sides, and wrecked vehicles multiplied—every ounce of attention was needed to steer.

The zombie horde chased the Ford Motorhome farther away; as the last few zombies stumbled after it, four figures climbed over the construction site's fence on the other side and ran toward Yihé Auto Yard.

"This area's surprisingly quiet—makes sense. The disaster hit in the morning, so only workers passed through here, and the malls hadn't even opened."

Zhang Su scanned the high-rises beside the road as he drove cautiously forward. After navigating the treacherous stretch, the convoy had shaken off the student zombies and entered a relatively quiet street.

"So our Kaiju was Diyunandu …"

Zheng Xinyu pressed her face against the passenger window, peering out—the buildings on both sides were mostly intact; no explosions, few shattered windows. Compare that to Shengqin Jiayuan, where the streets had been blasted apart and the compound wasn't much better.

"Xiaoshan, that's the Third Hospital, right? Want to visit your old colleagues?"

Zhang Su pointed to a grand, imposing building to the east, grinning with white teeth.

The Third Hospital wasn't on the same street as their route; the group merely glanced over—and their scalps prickled. At least three to five hundred zombies were scattered along the road in front of the hospital!

Today's update delivered. I'll go revise tomorrow's chapter—I'm leaving tomorrow to visit my in-laws for the New Year…
