Chapter 67: The Plot Thickens (Keep Reading, You'll Get Richer)

~6 min read 1,148 words

"Why don't I just pick for you all right now!"

Zhang Su said impatiently, his patience nearly exhausted—he just wanted to quickly pop into the convenience store, but he had to deal with these two first.

"Hey, handsome! Are these two beautiful ladies your friends?"

Unexpectedly, the woman beside the man spoke up timidly, gazing at Zhang Su with tear-filled eyes.

"Both of them are my women. What, you wanna join too?"

Zhang Su bluntly pierced through the girl’s intentions, his tone laced with clear mockery.

"You! What are you talking about... Xiao Ru, ignore this guy..."

"That's right, handsome, I can be your woman too—I'll follow you from now on, okay?"

The girl shook off the man’s arm, stepped aside, and stood up, deliberately posing to highlight her figure.

"Get lost!"

Zheng Xinyu was the first to protest—who the hell did this little tramp think she was, trying to cling to her man? She was absolutely furious.

Zhong Xiaoshan merely shot Xiao Ru a furious glare; her own position was already insecure, so she dared not say much before Zhang Su made his stance clear.

"Pan Ru, you... I really misjudged you!"

The man crouched on the ground, eyes blazing with anger, unable to shout loudly, he gritted his teeth and spat out a few words.

"Ha, you misjudged me? I misjudged you too! You kept saying you’d treat me well, but in the end, you ate the whole bag of chips yourself and secretly hid the water while I was asleep—if I hadn’t..."

"Enough!"

Seeing Pan Ru getting more and more agitated, her voice rising sharply, Zhang Su cut her off, then turned to the humiliated man.

"You’re really something else—too scared to kill zombies, that’s already pathetic, but you also steal food from your own girlfriend? What a freak..."

"My god, how can there be people like this in the world? Not even a freak—just trash!"

Zheng Xinyu made a sarcastic face.

The man was utterly ashamed, lowering his head and clenching his teeth in silence, lost in thought.

"Handsome, my name is Pan Ru, I..."

"Hey, don’t come near me!"

Zhang Su raised his hand to stop Pan Ru, who reeked of filth and was about to pounce, saying: "I condemn his behavior, but that doesn’t mean I accept you. I don’t keep dead weight around—go find someone else!"

With that, Zhang Su waved his hand dismissively, showing not the slightest courtesy to Pan Ru.

Even if Pan Ru were beautiful and fragrant, it wouldn’t matter—beauty might tempt men, but it won’t tempt zombies. To risk your life for a moment of pleasure, how stupid is that?

Zheng Xinyu and Zhong Xiaoshan understood Zhang Su’s mindset perfectly, so they trained relentlessly; he might save them once or twice, but they had to prove their worth.

"You nasty slut, how dare you shamelessly flirt? Hahaha! Get away..."

Seeing Zhang Su reject Pan Ru, the crouching man suddenly perked up, stood up, and slapped her across the face.

"Ah..."

Pan Ru slumped against the car, clutching her cheek, her eyes filled with shock and humiliation.

Zhang Su and the others were startled by the man’s sudden action, keeping watch on the zombies nearby while raising their axes, ready to stop him from any tricks.

"Big Brother! I want to kill zombies—I can kill them! Let me go!"

The man turned his head, staring at Zhang Su with a nearly insane look.

"That’s the spirit! Be a man—go!"

Zhang Su pointed his axe toward the man and gestured toward the street with his other hand—he’d seen desperate men before, and in this apocalypse, more would be willing to risk everything!

"But I don’t have a weapon. Can I... could I borrow yours?"

The man hesitantly pointed at Zhang Su’s axe.

"You’re not killing zombies for me—why should I lend you a weapon? Either trade me something, or figure it out yourself!"

Zhang Su replied coldly.

The man clenched his teeth, ran back to the car, rummaged around, and quickly pulled out a gift box.

"You... that was my mom’s gift to me! Don’t touch my stuff!"

Pan Ru, still stinging from the slap, stood helplessly to the side and rushed forward to snatch the box back when she saw the man taking it from the car.

"Let go, you bitch! He doesn’t want you, and neither do I! See how long you’ll last without me—what good are these things? Give it to me!"

With that, the man shoved her aside.

"Ma Xuechuo, you’ll die a miserable death!"

Pan Ru sat slumped on the ground, glaring at Ma Xuechuo with venomous hatred.

Ma Xuechuo ignored Pan Ru entirely, presenting the gift box to Zhang Su like a prized treasure.

"Big Brother, it’s a women’s Cartier watch—retail price over 40,000. Is that enough?"

"What’s the value of something like this now? It’s worth less than half a packet of instant noodles. But I’ll reluctantly lend you a weapon."

With that, Zhang Su took the box and handed it to Zheng Xinyu, then said to Wang Guangjun: "Old Wang, give him the crowbar."

"Got it!"

Wang Guangjun felt a bit disgusted—he’d originally pitied the young couple, but now their sudden betrayal, the woman’s desperate advances, and the man’s cowardice all repulsed him.

He stepped forward and handed the crowbar to Ma Xuechuo, coldly saying: "Don’t break it."

"Don’t worry, Uncle!"

Ma Xuechuo nodded vigorously, took the crowbar, tested its weight, and swung it twice through the air.

Wang Guangjun silently rolled his eyes and couldn’t help but speak up: "You’re holding it wrong—grip it here, and use the hooked end to smash the zombies."

"Oh, oh!"

Ma Xuechuo nodded frantically, swung it again, and now it felt more natural—then he made an action no one expected.

With a sharp twist of his waist, using his foot as a pivot, he swung the crowbar with all his might toward Zhang Su’s head—the dark red tip, still smeared with dried blood, left a trail of sticky fluid in the air.

Clearly, Ma Xuechuo had truly intended to kill—his face twisted with murderous intent, not even a sound escaped his lips. As the saying goes, the dog that bites doesn’t bark—he was that mad dog ready to kill!

His greasy hair flew up from the force—he’d used every ounce of strength!

"Watch out!"

"Damn it!"

Two sharp cries rang out—Zheng Xinyu raised her baseball bat to strike Ma Xuechuo, but she was too slow, caught off guard; Zhong Xiaoshan stood farther away and couldn’t reach him in time, so she could only shout a warning.

Thud!

In the blink of an eye, everyone saw Ma Xuechuo fly backward.

"Ugh..."

Ma Xuechuo collapsed on the ground, clutching his abdomen, eyes wide in disbelief—the crowbar lay beside him. He never imagined he’d fail—he’d disguised himself so well, he shouldn’t have been suspected.
