Chapter 68: I Can Scream, I Really Can Scream

~7 min read 1,207 words

“Dog bastard!”

Zhang Su licked his lips coldly, glanced at the restless zombies on the street, then rotated his ankle.

He had been wary of Ma Xuechuo all along, never letting his guard down, yet the man actually dared to turn treacherous—perfectly walking straight into his trap!

Zheng Xinyu swung her bat and missed, stumbling forward from the force, then turned to look at Zhang Su’s furious face and hurriedly asked: “Are you okay?”

“Brother Su, you alright?”

Zhong Xiaoshan rushed over and supported him, seeing he might have twisted his ankle.

“I’m fine. But he’s not.”

Zhang Su narrowed his eyes and stepped toward Ma Xuechuo, two meters away. His right ankle still ached slightly from the force, but it was nothing.

“I gave you a chance at life, and you tried to kill me?”

Zhang Su stood over Ma Xuechuo, looking down at him with a gaze colder than ice—so cold even a dog would shiver.

Wang Guangjun snatched up the crowbar in a flash and clutched it like a treasure, glaring bitterly at the fallen Ma Xuechuo.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, big brother, spare me this time, give me another chance...”

Ma Xuechuo scrambled backward toward the gas station’s exit, not knowing where to go, but knowing staying here meant certain death.

Unfortunately, some chances vanish once missed.

“You tremble before zombies, yet turn cruel toward your own kind—you’re truly a human being!”

Zhang Su stomped on Ma Xuechuo’s hamstring, pinning him in place.

“Big, big brother... I, you, that Xiao Ru—yes, Xiao Ru is very beautiful, and she’s amazing in bed. I’ve got videos on my phone—you can use them to blackmail her, make her your slave, make her obey you. Big brother, let me go, I’ll give you my phone.”

Lying on the ground, Ma Xuechuo struggled like a locust in autumn, fumbling his phone from his pocket and holding it up.

“You, Ma Xuechuo, you’re not even human—you’re worse than an animal!”

Pan Ru, weeping nearby, turned deathly pale at Ma Xuechuo’s words, her lips drained of all color—not just because of the videos, but because she never imagined this man could be so shameless.

She lunged to snatch the phone, but Zhong Xiaoshan and Zheng Xinyu held her back.

Zhang Su shook his head in disgust, pointing his axe at Ma Xuechuo: “Your girlfriend—no, ex-girlfriend—knew how to trade something valuable for protection. What about you? You trampled on the little trust I had in you, and now you’re telling me to blackmail a woman with videos...”

“Y-you, you better not do anything to me! I’ll go crazy—I’ll make you regret it, I swear!”

Ma Xuechuo knew escape was impossible. He turned painfully to glare at Zhang Su. The earlier kick had made him vomit acid, and it still clung to his lips.

“You’ll go crazy and I can’t handle it? Fine. Tell me exactly how you plan to go crazy.”

Zhang Su turned his head slightly, glancing at Ma Xuechuo from beside his bag, his expression unnervingly calm.

“T-there are plenty of zombies outside. I just have to scream—I’ll draw them all here, and we’ll all die together! Hehe, don’t think I won’t do it!”

Ma Xuechuo’s face twisted into madness—he thought he’d found the perfect way to blackmail Zhang Su.

Zhang Su flicked his tongue inside his mouth, looked up at the gray sky, then suddenly turned to Pan Ru, who sat weeping beside Zheng Xinyu and Zhong Xiaoshan.

“Want to settle the score with him?”

Everyone froze. Only Pan Ru reacted instantly, nodding: “I do. I want to kill him!”

“I’d feel the same. How about this... Xin Yu, give her the bat.”

Zhang Su nodded at Zheng Xinyu.

“What are you doing? What are you planning? I’ll scream! I really will scream—I’ll bring the zombies to eat you all!”

Ma Xuechuo watched Pan Ru take the bat from Zheng Xinyu, her eyes filled with venom as she stared at him. Though clad in only a thin shirt, sweat poured down his body.

“Don’t be nervous. You’re not afraid of a woman, are you?”

Zhang Su soothed Ma Xuechuo, then waved Pan Ru over: “He’s vile, but he doesn’t deserve death. How about breaking one of his legs?”

“No!”

Ma Xuechuo frantically waved his hands. A broken leg meant he couldn’t even drive—he might as well be dead.

But Pan Ru ignored him entirely. With swollen eyes, she nodded to Zhang Su.

“If you dare touch me, I’ll drag you all down with me!”

Ma Xuechuo felt the threat closing in, his face twitching uncontrollably.

“Drag us all down? Do you even have the right?”

Zhang Su snapped open the buckle on his waist sheath. A gleaming dog-tooth knife appeared in his hand, its blade shimmering even under the overcast sky—no one doubted its sharpness.

“Scream? Draw the zombies? Fine. Go ahead!”

With that, Zhang Su shouted toward the zombies on the street: “Come here! Someone’s here to play with you!!!”

Five or six zombies on the street turned their heads slowly, confirmed the sound after a brief pause, then began shambling mechanically toward the gas station.

At the same moment, Zhang Su raised his dog-tooth knife high and brought it down on Ma Xuechuo’s calf.

The blade’s razor edge, its unbreakable material, and Zhang Su’s furious strength—how terrifying was this combination?

Clang!

A metallic crash against concrete rang out—the fabric of his pants, skin, muscle, and bone offered no resistance whatsoever!

Ma Xuechuo’s calf snapped clean off, blood gushing like a fountain.

“AHHHH!!!”

Ma Xuechuo, seeing the zombies sprinting toward him, was utterly shattered—he never expected Zhang Su to do this. He soiled himself in terror.

Not just him—even Zheng Xinyu and the others were stunned. But soon, one thought rose in their minds: Evil men are punished by evil men.

“That leg was meant for you. But hurry up.”

Zhang Su pulled a cloth from his chest bag, wiped the dog-tooth knife roughly, re-sheathed it, then spread his arms and stepped back with Zheng Xinyu and the other two.

Pan Ru was terrified by Zhang Su’s madness, especially seeing six zombies charging toward her—her hands trembled. But when she looked at the man writhing on the ground, clutching his severed leg and screaming in agony, rage surged in her heart.

“YAH!”

With a shrill cry, Pan Ru swung the baseball bat clumsily, smashing it hard into Ma Xuechuo.

Thud.

Her aim was terrible—the bat missed his calf entirely and struck his right temple. She was about to swing again when a powerful force yanked her off her feet, hurling her backward.

“Ahh... you bitch, no!”

Struck again, Ma Xuechuo collapsed onto his back, pain clouding his mind as he screamed curses. But when he saw the zombies now less than ten meters away, he finally understood the gravity of his situation!

“No, no no no no...”

Ma Xuechuo struggled desperately to flee—but it was too late.

Auuuoo...

The six zombies pounced on Ma Xuechuo like starving lions attacking a wounded antelope, tearing into him.

“Ahh, you demons, you... I’ll become a vengeful ghost and haunt you!”

As he was devoured, Ma Xuechuo spat out a venomous curse, his eyes blazing with horrifying light.
