Chapter 49: Changping Mountain Sunshine (Request Monthly Tickets, Follow, Collect)

~6 min read 1,156 words

“Master, how do I get to Changping Mountain Pet Park?”

On the way to Changping Mountain Pet Park, Yu Xueqing stumbled awkwardly, especially when she reached a fork in the road—she was utterly baffled.

Because she hadn’t found any route map for Changping Mountain Pet Park on her map app.

Although Yu Xueqing had never owned a pet before, last summer vacation she and her old high school friend had visited Changping Pet Park.

She had petted dogs and exotic pets there, thoroughly enjoying herself.

Even two days ago, she had asked about Changping Mountain Pet Park with her high school friend.

That pet park hadn’t closed; its business had been quite good.

But Yu Xueqing couldn’t find its location on any navigation app, Tuantuan, or review site.

Helpless, Yu Xueqing carried her little fox to the fork in the road and asked for directions.

“Moo—”

The large water buffalo in the field, hearing Yu Xueqing’s hopeful question, paused, as if pondering, then tilted its head to the left.

“Go left? Thank you, Master Buffalo.”

Yu Xueqing, satisfied with the answer, hurried back to the car and drove down the left road.

An Sheng’s eyelid twitched slightly, unable to help saying:

“Aqing, can’t we just stand at the intersection for a moment and ask a real person for directions?”

An Sheng knew that Yu Xueqing’s brain seemed to have some extra plugin that let her communicate and send images to animals.

But he always felt asking animals for directions was profoundly unnatural and against the Dao.

An Sheng wasn’t afraid of getting lost, but Yu Xueqing’s car was just a five-ling grocery electric cart.

Though advertised with a 170-kilometer range, that range only applied under perfect conditions.

If her car could make it 150 kilometers, An Sheng would thank heaven, earth, and the Cyber Flesh Bodhisattva.

An Sheng had never pushed an electric cart, and he had no desire to try.

“Give me some confidence! They wouldn’t lie to me!”

Hearing the worry in An Sheng’s mutter, Yu Xueqing spoke confidently:

“Look, the sign ahead doesn’t it say ‘Changping Mountain Pet Park’?”

As the car drove down the road, a sign beside it read “Pet Park.”

Yu Xueqing pointed it out to An Sheng, gesturing for her fox to look at the sign—she wasn’t lying.

“Aqing, have city standards for fox pets become so high now?”

An Sheng glanced out the window and grumbled.

Only I can read. How are you expecting other foxes to read road signs? That’s cruel.

…………

The car drove five more kilometers on the road before the two finally saw their destination.

Changping Mountain Pet Park was built against the mountain, secluded near the riverbank, with its entrance decorated like a normal amusement park.

There was a parking lot in front with about a hundred marked spots, but near ten o’clock, only a dozen or so cars were parked.

Changping Mountain Pet Park.

It didn’t look as bustling or prosperous as Yu Xueqing had described—An Sheng thought it felt almost desolate.

At the ticket window counter, red signs with black text were posted.

“Miss, why does this place feel…” Yu Xueqing’s earlier enthusiasm vanished; seeing the warning signs, a sudden chill crept into her heart.

The ticket clerk, lying lifeless inside the booth, snapped awake at the sight of visitors with pets, forcing a smile:

“Hello, how may I assist you?”

“Our Changping Pet Park just renovated. Originally 130 yuan, tickets are now only 80 yuan—includes one pet grooming, two hours of unlimited access, and a complimentary 80-yuan snack set.”

“This is our new renovation promotion.”

“So it’s a grand reopening after renovation!”

Yu Xueqing’s face lit up in realization. “That’s why it didn’t feel as lively as before.”

“Then what about those signs on the counter—”

The clerk sighed. “I might as well tell you—it’s not like we wanted to renovate.”

“A while back, a group of fishermen in the valley claimed they caught some giant thing. Eight men in a minivan—three died. The fish killed them.”

“One was dragged into the river. The other two drowned trying to rescue him.”

“The Public Security Bureau sealed the mountain for over ten days searching for bodies and hunting down that fish. Apparently, someone released a foreign species—it grows up to 1.8 meters and weighs nearly a hundred jin.”

The clerk sighed again. “With no customers and aging facilities, our boss decided to renovate.”

“Like your exotic pet, you should know how destructive they can be.”

“Especially foxes—when they get excited, a belly rub makes them feel like flying. When they go wild, they’ll chew on anything.”

“We just reopened yesterday. The navigation apps and Tuantuan haven’t updated the ticket info yet.”

“Foxes get excited?”

Yu Xueqing looked confused, picked up her fox, and pinched its little belly.

An Sheng rolled his eyes, raised a paw, and pressed it against Yu Xueqing’s hand, telling her to calm down.

Yu Xueqing: “.”

My fox’s excitement level isn’t high at all!

Besides being pretty, his favorite thing is rolling his eyes.

“Fine then. I’ll buy one ticket.”

Yu Xueqing thought: since she’d come this far, she couldn’t just turn back without doing anything.

Inside Changping Mountain Pet Park, besides visitors’ own pets, the park also kept many different pets as companions.

To play with, to feed, to amuse.

Visitors could pet and touch them freely, but if they wanted to feed those little “gas tanks,” they had to buy snacks from the park—no bringing their own.

After stamping An Sheng’s little butt, the clerk, still uneasy, warned:

“This place is mountain-and-river-side. In the past, many fishermen came here to buy tickets just to fish.”

“Let me confirm once more—you didn’t bring any fishing gear, right?”

“I don’t know how to fish!” Yu Xueqing shook her head.

“Then have a great time,” the clerk smiled warmly.

“Ying ying ying?”

An Sheng stared blankly at the blue stamp on his butt.

Why am I getting a quarantine stamp on my butt?

Didn’t Aqing buy the ticket? Shouldn’t the entry stamp go on her hand?

Then An Sheng suddenly realized something.

In a pet park, it’s the pets who need tickets.

Yu Xueqing was just accompanying me.

So…

The stamp on me makes sense?

“Hello, please come here for inspection.”

Inside Changping Mountain Pet Park, as soon as An Sheng and Yu Xueqing entered, a female staff member stopped them.

Changping Pet Park had operated for years and had a very standardized entry process.

Pets needed a quick health check.

“Ying?”

An Sheng saw the cotton swabs and test strips on the table—his pupils shrank, face pale with horror:

“What the hell! I paid to enter an amusement park! You’re gonna poke my finger and my butt?!”

“Don’t come closer! I’ll turn the Dao upside down and jab you with this swab!”

An Sheng scrambled behind Yu Xueqing.
