Chapter 50: The Fox in the Pack of Hunting Dogs, Under the Gaze of All
“Come on! Let’s die together!”
Seeing the staff from Changping Pet Paradise approaching with a smiling face and a cotton swab test strip, An Sheng’s cheeks flickered with shock and fury, his heart tightening.
The little fox clenched his tiny fists—should any staff member dare to offend his big butt,
An Sheng would surely knock her flat on the ground and swipe his little fox paws across her rear until it was a rainbow of bruises.
“Uh…”
The pet park staff, sensing the fox’s resolute gaze, looked embarrassed and said:
“Miss, could you help us? Your little fox seems extremely shy and is very tense right now.”
“Xiao An, are you shy?”
Yu Xueqing froze, turned her head, and pulled the little fox out from behind her back, puzzled.
Xiao An’s social skills should be pretty strong, right?
In Zhangxizhen, he had fox friends and dog buddies everywhere—even now that he’d come to Changping Mountain, he shouldn’t be shy!
“Ying ying.”
An Sheng’s expression was calm; he let out a soft “ying ying,” already ready to ram the vet with his fox cart, then gently dip the cotton swab in water and jab it straight into the vet’s big butt.
“Master… Fox fox scared of pointy things, pointy butt cold.”
Amid An Sheng’s “ying ying,” Yu Xueqing’s built-in machine translator rendered a sentence in her mind.
“Oh! So that’s it!”
Yu Xueqing’s face lit up with sudden understanding—her little fox had been born in a breeding farm, raised as livestock.
With that breeding density, every little fox had to undergo regular checkups and vaccinations, or a single flu could wipe them all out.
Her little fox must have had many checkups before, including the “butt-probe” part.
That’s why he said “pointy,” “scared,” and “butt cold.”
“You want to stick your finger in my fox’s butt?”
Once she understood the full picture, Aqing’s face turned wary; she hugged the fox tightly and glared at the staff holding the cotton swab and test strip.
“Butt?”
The pet vet blinked, waving his hands frantically: “We’d never stick our fingers in a pet’s butt! We only collect nasal secretions to test the health of pets entering the park.”
The vet spoke solemnly, firmly, explaining to Yu Xueqing.
“Ying ying.”
“Oh, I see!”
Both human and fox visibly relaxed; Aqing’s face softened as she placed the little fox on the table.
In fact, Aqing fully understood Xiao An’s fear of fecal tests.
Because her family ran a tea estate, in agriculture and food sales.
All employees needed health certificates, and the physical exam included a fecal test.
Yu Xueqing herself had suffered through it before, so she deeply understood the little fox’s feelings.
Even now, she still remembered the doctor sister with the mask and smiling eyes.
After waiting ten minutes at the entrance, the pet vet confirmed An Sheng carried no pathogens and let them pass.
“Xiao An, run!”
Inside the pet park, Yu Xueqing set the little fox down on the ground.
The path was covered with soft, fluffy artificial grass, stretching all the way to a six-story, crescent-shaped building inside the park.
On both sides of the path, wooden fences divided real grassy patches, where dogs of all sizes could enjoy themselves freely.
At least, pet owners no longer had to worry about a hundred-pound Alaskan Malamute accidentally crushing a Pomeranian or other tiny dog underfoot.
Thus, pet owners could sit comfortably in pavilions or indoors, sipping tea and petting other animals without fear.
“This place really has something.”
An Sheng stepped on the artificial grass; though the sensation under his paws wasn’t exactly comfortable, it was infinitely better than asphalt.
The pet park nestled against mountains and water, its average temperature far more pleasant than the city’s.
The owner of Changping Pet Paradise had clearly considered the comfort of the furry ones when designing the grounds.
“Wang wang wang—”
Before An Sheng and Yu Xueqing arrived, the park already had some visitors.
Inside, a shepherd dog, upon seeing the little fox, exploded with excitement, leaping and barking wildly behind the wooden fence, chasing the fox.
Grass, fence, fox, and a pet sheep brought by another owner.
The shepherd dog’s hunting bloodline awakened—excitement peaked.
“So cute!”
Yu Xueqing, seeing the shepherd dog, beamed and stepped forward; the dog blinked, then lifted its head as if suddenly proud.
“Good boy.”
Yu Xueqing reached through the wooden fence, stroked the classic black-and-white shepherd dog, then pointed to her own little fox:
“This is my fox—he doesn’t eat sheep. You two can’t fight.”
The shepherd dog paused, as if images suddenly flashed in its mind.
After a moment’s hesitation, it looked at An Sheng with reluctance and barked once.
A greeting, of sorts.
“Hahaha, you’re good too.”
Besides the shepherd dog, golden retrievers and Labrador retrievers quietly approached, gazing at the little fox behind the fence with longing.
Brother, come over here.
Just one bite—I promise I won’t hurt you.
You smell familiar.
We must’ve been brothers in a past life!
An Sheng’s eyes flickered; while Yu Xueqing’s gaze shifted toward the pet sheep, he gave each dog a skull-bonk.
The two golden retrievers, one shepherd dog, and one Labrador water dog all sat stunned on the grass, whimpering in confusion.
Was our ancestral prey really… like this?
“Ying ying ying!”
An Sheng squeezed through the wooden fence; the golden retrievers and Labrador all tensed up, the shepherd dog silently stepped forward to shield them, then turned quietly and sprinted to its owner, diving under her skirt.
“?”
The shepherd dog’s owner, sipping tea at the campsite and chatting with other pet owners, glanced at the trembling dog hiding under her skirt and silently raised an eyebrow.
“Wang!”
The milk-white tufted dog, sitting quietly beside its young master, frowned as if sensing something unusual, stood up, and stared fixedly toward the wooden fence.
“Ying?”
An Sheng rode atop the Labrador, strolling across the grass; the two golden retrievers wore adoring expressions, like loyal hounds, guarding him closely.
The ancestors of these golden retrievers and Labradors might’ve been some mighty hunting dogs.
But these city-bred ones? They weren’t hunting dogs at all—each one bloated with fat, utterly useless in combat.
The only thing noticeably prominent was their potbellies.
After An Sheng gave them all skull-bonks, the dogs acknowledged the fox’s imperial status.
“Wang!”
The milk-white tufted dog locked its gaze on the little fox, barking a warning like a V8 engine.
“Ying.”
An Sheng glanced sideways at the tufted dog, and a strange feeling stirred in his heart.
This is one of our… Xia Beihu red foxes’ sworn enemies!
