Chapter 66: Han Yu Crocodile

~7 min read 1,217 words

“Step down? How am I supposed to step down?”

“I’ll say it plainly! One of us has to move into the zoo’s dormitory!”

The fox, standing upright, faced the bizarre crocodile and let out a cold, tinkling chuckle.

That long-legged Bay Croc just pulled the power switch at Chen Zhiyu’s Pet Paradise.

After observing, An Sheng suspected that, aside from Chen Zhiyu on the rooftop, no one else was present in the entire pet park.

That meant the electrical short-circuit caused by the unlucky croc would have to be fixed by An Sheng himself—or by dawn, a large portion of the expensive, temperature-sensitive pets would die.

You can guess on an English exam if you don’t know the answer, but if you don’t know math, you simply don’t know it.

But!

Even if you don’t know math, you can still write “Solution:”.

But with electrical repairs, if you have zero basic knowledge and touch those terminals, you might get electrocuted into doing the lightning dance.

That bizarre crocodile wants me to step down?

How could I possibly step down? I carry Yu Xueqing’s purse, Lin Ying’s key to the door, and Chen Zhiyu’s fortune—without me, their whole household would collapse!

The fox’s expression grew serious; its eyes narrowed as it assumed the crouching posture of a hunter.

Shouldn’t crushing a long-snouted croc’s head be about the same as crushing a spicy strip in the forest?

“Roar.”

The Han Yu Crocodile let out a low, rumbling growl, like a massive American V8 engine, echoing through the night.

The Han Yu Crocodile ignored the unconscious Bay Croc and moved its four limbs, dragging its massive tail across the pet park’s soil.

It kept its gaze locked on the fox, crouched low and ready to explode forward at any moment.

Small animals like foxes typically aren’t on a crocodile’s menu.

If it were an ordinary fox, the Han Yu Crocodile wouldn’t even bother to glance at it—the meat wasn’t enough to fill a tooth gap, let alone warrant attention.

But this fox, crouched low with two tails raised like banners fluttering in the wind, was an exception.

The Han Yu Crocodile sensed a threat—a moment’s lapse could mean being overturned by it.

Jianghe was its territory.

The Han Yu Crocodile would not yield an inch—if it did, its dozen mating partners would be claimed by that small creature, and it would be dethroned.

“Roar—”

The Han Yu Crocodile advanced slowly, its tail, as thick as a waist, began to sway; it opened its long snout and lunged toward the fox at a measured pace, testing.

“Snap—”

The Han Yu Crocodile’s snout shot forward like a spear; the fox’s tail, which had been swinging up and down, suddenly thrust forward and blocked the crocodile’s heavy bite.

“Ying!”

An Sheng’s eyes narrowed, and a strange, sudden intuition struck him.

An Sheng’s body darted sharply left—but the Han Yu Crocodile seemed to have anticipated it; its massive two-toned tail, thick as a mountain, roared through the air with the force of a collapsing peak and crushed down.

The crocodile’s tail whipped through empty air so violently it spun the eight-meter-long beast in a full circle on the spot.

In the instant the tail missed, it seemed to create a sonic boom from sheer speed.

“Roar!”

Yet the Han Yu Crocodile’s killing blow did not land on the land’s dominant predator.

The Han Yu Crocodile’s heart jolted; it frantically scanned left and right, searching for the vanished fox.

But after scanning all around, it saw no trace of the fox that had been facing it.

Unease rose in the Han Yu Crocodile; it turned its head and roared toward Jianghe and the unconscious Bay Croc.

Yet if the Han Yu Crocodile could see from a third-person perspective, it would be stunned to discover the fox had been sitting atop its spine the entire time.

An Sheng had leapt into the air the moment he dodged left, using his springing power to land lightly on the giant crocodile’s carapace.

Riding the crocodile, he spun it like a giant windmill.

“Boom—”

As the Han Yu Crocodile paused its tail swing, An Sheng’s face broke into a grin; he leapt upward, aiming straight for the crocodile’s occiput, and kicked with all his weight—sending the crocodile crashing face-down onto the ground.

The fox, still on the crocodile’s back, pushed off with its front paws and executed a backflip, landing squarely in front of the Han Yu Crocodile.

“Up!”

The fox stood upright, its tiny paws gripping the crocodile’s long snout and executing a perfect over-the-shoulder throw, hurling the eight-meter-plus giant crocodile onto the concrete retaining wall.

“Boom—rumble—”

The heavy crash and shattering sounds echoed through the Changping forest and across Jianghe.

“Gua.”

Severely injured, the Han Yu Crocodile exhaled a strange, gasping sound, rolled its eyes back, blood trickled from its snout, and it lay belly-up, completely unconscious.

“Gua?”

The Chinese alligators huddled in the soundproofed pool had watched the entire battle between the two apex predators.

They reacted with startling human-like horror, inhaling sharply and letting out frog-like croaks.

They didn’t recognize the fox.

But that long-snouted crocodile? It had cracked them open like sunflower seeds, sucked their flesh like snails—and even the duck-billed fish dared not challenge it.

Now, it was lying belly-up on the ground.

The Chinese alligators had never seen such a ferocious beast.

It was the beast among beasts, the apex among apexes.

“Gua.”

The Chinese alligators croaked in unison and dove deep into the water, terrified they’d be mistaken for trespassers and turned into the next victims of the beast that had toppled the crocodile king.

“Ying-ying-ying—”

After toppling the Han Yu Crocodile, An Sheng dragged it ashore just as he had dragged the Bay Croc earlier.

“Wait! That crocodile can’t be eaten!”

An Sheng had just placed the two crocodiles side by side and was about to return to fetch Lin Ying to take photos of them and convince Chen Zhiyu to take them in.

Chen Zhiyu’s voice called out from behind An Sheng:

“Uh, Master Fuli, if you’re hungry, you can eat anything at my place—anything at all. But… could you leave that big crocodile behind?”

Chen Zhiyu carried a shotgun on her back and held a carbon-fiber maintenance net in her hand, approaching An Sheng with extreme caution.

The two-tailed, white fox had toppled two crocodiles whose sizes clearly exceeded all norms.

Chen Zhiyu was nearly driven mad—but she had no choice but to step forward.

That crocodile, seemingly a long-snouted one,

If her zoology knowledge was correct, it was one of the native crocodile species long confirmed extinct in Xia: the Han Yu Crocodile!

The Han Yu Crocodile was the apex predator of southern rivers.

Later, due to its extreme ferocity, it triggered terror among the terrifying upright apes—and was hunted to extinction.

The Han Yu Crocodile has reappeared in Xia.

It holds not only historical research value but also represents a major ecological achievement!

“Ying?”

An Sheng frowned, turned his head, and let out a questioning whimper toward Chen Zhiyu.

Aren’t you, like, able to control this croc?

“You’re… An Sheng?”

The fox turned around; when Chen Zhiyu saw the full form of the two-tailed fox, she froze in shock, staring in disbelief.

“Y-y-you…”
