Chapter 5: Art is Explosion
From Marvel, Starting as a Genie
In Hell's Kitchen, on a high-rise building with messy wires of all kinds, Frank leaned against the railing at the edge of the floor, observing the outside sideways.
From this direction, in this posture, he could just see the base of the information peddler, Tire. Frank had been watching here for two or three days and hadn't found any suspicious personnel entering for the time being.
Waiting a while longer, when the agreed time arrived, Frank took out his phone, connected the data cable, plugged it into the computer, and dialed the private number Tire had left him.
"Hey, is this brother Tom? The information you entrusted us to find has been found. We agreed to come and get it today; why haven't you arrived yet?" Tire's voice came from the other end of the phone.
Amidst Tire's calling, Frank didn't say a word, just stared fixedly at the computer screen—at the words "Locating."
This was a "fool-proof" software, the kind that was quite popular on the black market, but the technical content was not low. At least until now, there was no cracked version, otherwise its price wouldn't be so expensive.
A few seconds later, the software execution gave the location result. The coordinates were the coordinates of the base. Tire was likely in his old lair now.
Did the "startling the snake" attempt fail?
Frank was a bit puzzled. Following closely, an alarm popped up directly on the computer. The computer manager detected an unknown signal attempting to connect. Disconnect the network connection?
Looking at this sentence, Frank smiled slightly. While he was locating others, others were also locating him.
However, Frank was very curious: for a force that possessed or pursued Dragon Bone fossils, was this displayed technological capability a bit too poor?
Frank didn't know much about computers himself. The computer he was using was installed with personal computer defense software from a holding company under Stark Industries, and it was still a free trial version. Could the other party not bypass this level of defense?
Hanging up the phone, Frank held his binoculars and scanned the base up, down, left, and right several times, but still didn't find anything wrong. But based on so many years of experience, Frank could be sure that there must be an ambush nearby; he just didn't know where it was hidden!
And so, Frank flipped open the cover of the detonator in his pocket and pressed it directly.
*Boom! Boom! Boom! *
Three consecutive explosions sounded, and firelight gushed directly out of Tire's base. The placement points of the three explosives were all in places that looked inconspicuous but were important load-bearing positions of the building.
After the explosion, the four-story building began to sway, and cement blocks kept sliding down from above.
In this chaotic scene, Frank discovered that the shadows around the building were a bit wrong. According to the angle of the light, some shadows appeared where they shouldn't have!
*Thud! Boom! *
The collapse of the building was accelerating, and that abnormality was even more obvious. Some shadows even fell directly onto the fleeing gang members.
Seizing this hard-won opportunity, Frank set up his sniper rifle, locked a target into the sniper scope, and pulled the trigger fiercely.
With a flash of fire, a bullet passed through the noisy street and hit an abnormal shadow directly.
A ninja dressed entirely in black popped out directly from the ground and then, under Frank's gaze, turned into dust and dissipated.
Found the right person!
Seeing that eerie scene, Frank was not afraid but instead felt a new joy. He had long been prepared. Since the other party possessed some kind of special energy, that also meant the other party might possess some special abilities.
Moreover, judging from the information collected so far, those shadow ninjas weren't very difficult to deal with.
Except for the special ability to transform into shadows, Frank didn't feel they were much stronger than ordinary special forces. They couldn't directly lock onto the coordinates of the hostile party, had to rely on crappy electronic intrusion technology, and always died under gunfire—they just died in a different way.
Even if trained special forces soldiers had come over, they should have judged Frank's position long ago through ballistics, gunfire, geographical location, and other information. Yet this group of guys still hadn't.
Another bullet flew out, and a ninja turned into dust.
Now, that group of guys finally discovered the general direction. More than a dozen shadows turned into ninjas and rushed toward Frank's direction.
Don't like using firearms? Or do they intend to capture him alive?
Frank didn't quite understand. Facing a sniper, fire suppression is common sense. But not a single one of these ninjas had a gun. Why was this?
Regardless of why, this was good news for Frank.
With continuous point-shooting, Frank killed two more. The hit rate while moving was 50%.
The ninjas' movement speed and ability to find cover were still quite good. At least they weren't running wildly on the street; they still had some combat literacy.
After the ninjas crossed the street in front of the base, Frank abandoned the sniper rifle, picked up a small bag, turned around, and left this observation point from the other side.
After landing, an explosion sounded behind him. This sound was much duller than the ones at the beginning.
After all, there were too many people in the city where the observation point was located. Frank could only reduce the number of explosives. However, he stuffed a lot of shrapnel inside, so the lethality in the narrow area wouldn't be reduced.
After killing a portion of the ninjas with the muffled explosion, Frank prepared to turn back to deal with the rest, incidentally luring some more over to see if he could get some more information.
It's just that Frank, and the ninjas, all forgot where this was. This was Hell's Kitchen.
The previous few explosions happened a bit too fast, and the people of Hell's Kitchen hadn't reacted. Now it was different.
Firearms were extended from various positions. The holders weren't seen; only the sound like a typewriter sounded.
Bullets hit those ninjas like raindrops. Who told this group of guys to dress like outsiders and stay near the explosion point?
Under the concerted fire of everyone, not a single one of these ninjas lasted more than a few seconds.
Even if they hid behind cover at the first opportunity, it was useless. Hand grenades were standard weapons here.
Even if everyone still had a bit of reason and didn't intend to knock the building down, otherwise, let alone grenades, rocket launchers could be taken out easily.
Looking at the hospitable, lively scene before him, Frank turned and ran.
Absolutely, absolutely must not be dragged in by the ninjas, otherwise things would be very troublesome.
In a situation where everyone might pull out a gun and pull the trigger at any time, Frank didn't have the confidence that he could retreat unscathed. This is the power of the collective.
While Frank was retreating quickly, he also encountered many gang members driving pickup trucks, mounting heavy machine guns, and carrying RPGs, heading toward Tire's side.
Amen, may you be lucky.
Frank made a cross on his chest and blessed those shadow ninjas. ===== CHAPTER 6 =====
