Chapter 82: Omen of Misfortune
The Dementor attack cast a shadow over the first day of school, but fortunately, Dumbledore resolved the crisis from afar, so it didn't cause any major impact.
Johnson heard from Lupin that when the Dementors broke into the steam train, an indescribable light enveloped the entire train. Under this light, all the Dementors fled in panic, as if they had encountered a natural predator.
Johnson couldn't help but sigh; sometimes, there are only wrongly called names, never wrongly called nicknames.
The title of Dumbledore as the most powerful White Wizard was truly well-deserved.
This also made Johnson a bit curious about what kind of person Voldemort really was, to have been able to create that period of terror in the wizarding world under Dumbledore's protection.
The next day, early in the morning, Johnson arrived at the North Tower. The first class this morning was his Divination class.
"Er... Professor Trelawney, may I ask what you are doing here?" After Johnson arrived outside the classroom, he saw someone who shouldn't have been there.
"Oh, you, you modified the decorations of the Divination room. It's not that it's bad, but it's just too different..." Trelawney spoke incoherently, without a point; perhaps this was why many people disliked her.
"Are you here to audit? I am very welcome to that," Johnson said after listening to a minute or two of nonsense, sighing.
"Of course, I knew you would invite me." Trelawney seemed very satisfied with Johnson's choice. "You know, the things in the books cannot teach them. Perhaps I can still give you some help."
"Thank you, please come in. The students will be here soon." Johnson had a bit of a headache. He only hoped that his Divination class wouldn't be turned into a mess by Trelawney's arrival.
After a while, once everyone had arrived at the classroom and sat in their seats, Johnson stood up and tapped the tabletop. "Everyone, I am your Divination professor. My name is Thomas Johnson. From today on, I will try to teach you how to step into the world of divination and how to perceive the future through some special means."
"First, has anyone previewed your textbooks?" Johnson asked, looking at all the young wizards.
*Swish*, Hermione raised her hand high; she was the only one in the entire classroom with her hand up.
"Good, put it down." Johnson looked down at the student roster. "Ms. Hermione, I have some unfortunate news: this book is actually of no use. Furthermore, I regret to tell you all that the ability of divination cannot be learned from the few words in a book; at most, it can only teach you how to interpret."
Hermione was a bit stunned. She had finished reading such a large book and even memorized it, and now you're telling me it's useless?!
Behind her, Trelawney nodded with satisfaction; she thought the same.
"However, given your study habits, I think I should award points to Gryffindor House." Johnson added immediately.
Once these words were spoken, Hermione's expression improved slightly. At least it wasn't a completely useless effort, right?
"Good, let us first choose a divination medium that we find pleasing." Johnson took the items he had prepared and placed them on the table one by one. "I must tell you in advance that they have nothing to do with whether you have divination ability. If your ability is strong enough, even a dead mosquito can be used for divination."
"Hey, do you see that little cat pendant? I bet Hermione will definitely choose it; she likes cats so much," Ron nudged Harry Potter and said.
"Hmph, it's a pity there isn't a rat pendant, otherwise it would certainly suit you," Hermione successfully countered.
While the two were bickering, Harry Potter looked at the little dog doll on the table, a bit dazed.
Soon, student after student walked up and took their favorite medium. Now it was Harry Potter's turn.
In front of the table, Harry reached his hand toward the tarot cards that no one had chosen. Just then, his legs suddenly went weak, and he bumped into the table; the little dog doll rolled into his palm.
"Oh~ child! I see an omen of misfortune on you!" Professor Trelawney suddenly spoke up. "It is a ghost dog. You must be careful, dear." Not only because of Professor Trelawney's words, but also because this choice was indeed a small divination ritual, and Harry's result indicated that he would suffer some kind of accident. ===== CHAPTER 83 =====
