Chapter 372: Where is Qing'er?
"Who is Dong'er?" Wen Shiyuan's face was full of gossip.
Could it be the person A Yao longed for but couldn't obtain back then?
Su Qingyao had no time to explain, grabbed Wen Shiyuan's hand, and asked urgently: "Where is she now?"
"What's the rush?" Wen Shiyuan pursed his lips outward, "I placed her in Miao Ren Hall, with dedicated care, she's doing well."
How could Su Qingyao not be anxious?
Dong'er initially went missing together with Xiao Mei; for over twenty years there was no news, and now that he finally has a clue, he cannot wait a moment!
Su Qingyao lifted the hem of his official robe and bolted outside.
Seeing him so anxiously impatient, Wen Shiyuan chuckled, shook his head, and followed.
Miao Ren Hall is where Wen Shiyuan usually sees patients, just next door; to facilitate rest and recuperation for serious patients, there is also a small courtyard at the back with seven or eight rooms.
Lou Shi resides in the quietest room on the eastern side.
However, she is not in the room right now; after breakfast this morning, her servant gave her medicine, then urged her to go out for a walk—to loosen her muscles and bones, and to enjoy the scenery outside, which would improve her mood.
Su Qingyao panted as he crossed the Moon Gate, and at once saw the woman sitting dazedly under the tree.
He abruptly stopped in his tracks.
The woman looked about forty or fifty, with a gentle appearance.
Perhaps from prolonged hunger, her face was terrifyingly thin, her body nothing but skin and bone, her eyes stared blankly at the ground, filled with confusion.
Although they hadn't seen each other in years, Su Qingyao still recognized her immediately.
It's her!
It's Dong'er!
Su Qingyao's heart overflowed with joy; his hands and feet almost refused to obey.
Still, Wen Shiyuan, who had followed up, gave him a push and teased with a smirk: "I say, sir, you needn't get this excited, right? Though she's lost her memory, it's obvious she's already married—don't harbor any improper thoughts, or I'll tell your wife."
Su Qingyao closed his eyes, steadied his mind, then walked forward in official steps to Lou Shi's side.
"Dong'er." Afraid of startling Lou Shi, he suppressed his inner excitement and called out softly.
Lou Shi lifted her head to look at him, bewildered: "You're calling me? Who are you?"
Su Qingyao fell silent, turning his head toward Wen Shiyuan beside him.
Wen Shiyuan spread his hands.
I told you early on she had amnesia—she can't even recall her own name; you believe it now, right?
Su Qingyao would not accept that.
He even suspected Dong'er was feigning amnesia, since when Xiao Mei went missing years ago, only Dong'er had been by her side; if Xiao Mei's disappearance was connected to her, or if Xiao Mei had suffered some mishap, then as a servant Dong'er would have only a dead end.
To protect herself, Dong'er very likely pretended to be foolish and oblivious to get by.
Su Qingyao narrowed his eyes, deciding to test her.
He gave a cold smile, looked down on Lou Shi from above, and said: "Dong'er, you needn't pretend not to know this official; I advise you to confess honestly, otherwise I'll start with your brother and send him to the Great Prison!"
"My brother..." Lou Shi sprang up in panic, "Confess, confess what?"
Su Qingyao stared at her, enunciating each word: "Where is Qing'er? Where is the Su family's legitimate daughter, Su Qing Ci?"
Su Qing Ci?
Lou Shi's eyes darted about in panic, straining to recall this person, but no matter how she tried, she couldn't remember.
Her head began to throb faintly. Chinese web
"I, I don't know, I really don't know..."
Seeing this, Su Qingyao furrowed his brows.
What Dong'er cares about most is her gambling-addicted brother; even he can't threaten her, indicating she truly has amnesia.
The clue he had just grasped snapped away in an instant, leaving Su Qingyao utterly disappointed.
Only then did Wen Shiyuan beside him realize he had made a mistake, and also caught the meaning—Lou Shi is very likely the key person who knows Su Qing Ci's whereabouts.
He sighed, patted Su Qingyao's shoulder to comfort him: "Don't rush, she's only just awakened not long ago; she probably won't recover in a short while. Wait a bit longer—after half a year, when Elder Du finishes her craniotomy, perhaps she'll remember everything."
Speaking of Du Ruo, Wen Shiyuan suddenly recalled something.
Du Ruo had previously mentioned Lou Shi to him.
He said Lou Shi's family was in Wutou Xian, her husband a butcher, though he had died years ago.
He also said Lou Shi had a stepson named Yang Dian Feng, whom she valued greatly; though not related by blood, they were as close as mother and son.
Moreover, to help a patient regain memory quickly, besides medication and surgery, there is another method.
That is environmental stimulation.
For example, taking her to walk around the places she once lived and look at them.
Another example is to mention her family more often.
Thinking this through, Wen Shiyuan ventured: "Lou Shi, do you still remember your son?"
Son?
Lou Shi's eyes brightened: "I, I have a son?"
"Yes, you have a stepson named Yang Dian Feng, who once was a constable in Wutou Xian."
"Yang Dian Feng... Yang Dian Feng..." Lou Shi murmured the name, fragmentary images flashing quickly in her mind, her headache worsening: "Where is he now? Why, since I woke up, have I not seen him?"
Wen Shiyuan hesitated a bit.
Yang Dian Feng had already killed himself in prison; he wasn't sure whether to tell Lou Shi, fearing strong stimulation might backfire.
Seeing Wen Shiyuan's embarrassed expression, Lou Shi stumbled forward, grabbed his clothes, and pleaded eagerly: "Divine Doctor Wen, quickly tell me—where is he? Does he despise me as a burden, which is why he doesn't come to see me?"
Wen Shiyuan silently sighed, and ultimately related that cruel truth.
"Yang Dian Feng... died."
Died?
Ms. Lou let go of her hand, her whole self lost and dazed, as if she couldn't believe what she had heard: "Dead…… she was fine, how could she die……"
"Why didn't anyone save him…… why……"
Suddenly her face turned pale, she spat out a mouthful of fresh blood, then her eyes rolled back and she collapsed limply to the ground.
Wen Shiyuan and Su Qingyao were both startled.
Wen Shiyuan hurried forward to take Ms. Lou's pulse, after a moment shook his head: "Qi rushed to attack her heart, she fainted."
"Is there any serious harm?" Su Qingyao asked anxiously.
"It's fine, just take some medicine to recuperate." Wen Shiyuan pondered for a moment, then said, "It's not really a bad thing; her strong reaction shows she has feelings for those people, those memories."
Su Qingyao didn't understand, "What Uncle Wen means is……"
"What I mean is, it shouldn't be long before she fully recovers her memory."
"Really? Good, great!" Su Qingyao excitedly patted her big belly, turned head and ran out impatiently, "Please Uncle Wen, take good care of her, definitely don't let anything happen to her. I'll go back to the manor and tell my mother this wonderful news!"
