Chapter 386: Li Xiaodao
"I don't yet know how to address you; you may call me 'Mr. Sai.'" Wang Yu asked calmly first.
"My original name is long abandoned; call me Fast Blade Li, or Li Xiaodao—I'm fast with a blade." The young man replied.
"You're indeed skilled with a blade, but your body movement is even faster, isn't it?" Wang Yu gave a look full of hidden meaning.
"What do you mean by that?" Li Xiaodao's expression changed instantly, turning wary.
"Where did you learn the Wolf Run body technique? Though you've only grasped its form, it's still impressive." Wang Yu continued, observing the other's facial changes.
"Who are you? How do you know about the Wolf Run body technique?" Li Xiaodao stared at Wang Yu, one hand gripping the table's edge, the other already resting on the short blade at his waist.
"You plan to flip the table and draw your blade to kill me?" Wang Yu chuckled lightly.
"You really think having a bit of supernatural ability makes you untouchable? I'd very much like to test whether your flame ability can melt my blade," Li Xiaodao said, his face dark with lethal intent.
Clearly, Wang Yu's earlier questions had stirred a sliver of killing intent within him.
Seeing this, Wang Yu subtly relaxed inwardly. Without answering Li Xiaodao's question, he asked slowly again:
"Besides Wolf Run, how many of the Four Beasts forms have you learned? If you knew Tiger Pounce, being this close, it would be far more unexpected than Wolf Run."
"You truly know the Four Beasts martial art? And you know about Tiger Pounce?" Li Xiaodao's lethal aura froze; his gaze toward Wang Yu turned sharp with suspicion.
"Earlier, I asked you one question: where did you learn the Wolf Run body technique? As far as I know, the Four Beasts diagrams are top-secret even within China; ordinary overseas Chinese could never access them—unless you're Chinese yourself, and of a rather special status." Wang Yu smiled lightly.
"Hmph, you want me to answer that? Then shouldn't you tell me first how a Westerner knows so much about the Four Beasts diagrams?" Li Xiaodao's fingers tightened on the blade's hilt, his face shifting through several expressions as he replied.
"Who told you I'm Western?" Wang Yu chuckled.
"Are you Chinese? A Chinese with a big nose?" Li Xiaodao stared at Wang Yu's Western face, clearly disbelieving.
"It seems I must show you something before you'll believe me…" Wang Yu sighed, lowered his head, and swiftly pinched his face with both hands over a dozen times. When he raised his head again, the young man across from him was startled.
The Wang Yu before him was no longer the same—he had transformed into a wax-yellow Eastern face, and strangely, his features bore a slight resemblance to Li Xiaodao's.
"Is this your real face?" Li Xiaodao asked, eyes wide.
"Of course not. I'm not ready to reveal my true face to anyone. This is merely a simple imitation of your appearance." Wang Yu spoke calmly; the wax-yellow face quickly flushed with color, transforming in moments into a normal East Asian visage.
"This only proves you have rapid disguise ability—it doesn't make you trustworthy," Li Xiaodao murmured, though his tone was clearly less certain than before.
"I understand your fear of deception. But what if I told you I also know the Four Beasts martial art—and can sketch any one of its diagrams at will? Would that make you trust me?" Wang Yu tapped the table twice with his finger, then spoke slowly.
"Impossible. If you could sketch the Four Beasts diagrams, your country would never let you leave. If you can truly draw any one of the Four Beasts diagrams before me, I'll believe you." Li Xiaodao declared firmly.
"Then watch closely," Wang Yu said calmly.
"Right here?" The young man blinked, scanning the private room—there was no sign of paper or brush.
But Wang Yu smiled faintly, opened his mouth, and spat out a cluster of black mist.
The mist was no larger than a fist at first, but spun rapidly in midair and expanded swiftly.
Amid swirling black vapor, within mere breaths, a lifelike black wolf, mid-run, materialized above the round table.
"This is…"
Li Xiaodao was stunned by the sight, but immediately recalled something—he leapt to his feet, scrutinizing the black wolf diagram closely, began rhythmic breathing, his gaze locked immovably on the image.
Wang Yu remained seated, but his vast spiritual sense had already been released, effortlessly controlling the black wolf formed from yin energy, holding it steady without dissolving.
For a full cup of tea's time.
Li Xiaodao's breathing grew erratic; his chest rose and fell rapidly, then slowly, his facial muscles trembling uncontrollably, his cheeks and neck flushed with unnatural redness.
"Interesting. It seems you've somehow fused a breathing method with the Four Beasts body cultivation technique?" As the one who brought both back to Blue Star, Wang Yu instantly recognized the young man's state. A flicker of surprise crossed his face, then he inhaled sharply.
"Huff."
The black wolf diagram dissolved, coalescing into a wisp of black mist that Wang Yu drew into his mouth.
The young man shuddered; his gaze finally returned to normal. After several deep breaths, the trembling of his muscles and the red flush on his face gradually faded.
At that moment, Wang Yu pinched his face with ten fingers, and his visage reverted to its original Western appearance.
"Mr. Sai, this is truly the Wolf Run diagram—and more potent than the one I saw back home. Otherwise, I wouldn't have slipped into enlightenment so instantly." After regaining composure, Li Xiaodao spoke to Wang Yu with sudden respect.
"Was the Wolf Run diagram you saw back home identical to this one?" Wang Yu, unsurprised by the young man's sudden shift in attitude, asked curiously.
"I've only seen the Wolf Run diagram a few times, and I'm certain there's a difference—not large, but your version's spiritual resonance is clearly far stronger." Li Xiaodao replied without hesitation.
"It seems your physique is well-suited to Wolf Run. Then you can answer my question now?" Wang Yu nodded and asked again, silently pondering whether the difference in the Wolf Run diagram's effect was tied to yin energy.
After all, yin energy is a form of heavenly power; a Wolf Run diagram formed from it must differ significantly from an ordinary one.
"I left China half a year ago. Before that, I was a member of a special unit within China, frequently assigned overseas missions—I can't say what those missions were."
"The Wolf Run diagram technique was suddenly issued to us a year ago. At first, we were only given basic breathing methods and body conditioning tips. Only those who achieved minimal success were permitted to observe the spiritual diagrams."
"I was lucky—I was among the few qualified. After observing the Wolf Run diagram several times, I learned the Wolf Run body technique. But when I later tried to observe the Tiger Pounce diagram, I failed—I learned nothing."
"Since then, I learned these spiritually resonant diagrams are called the Four Beasts diagrams, each containing a unique body cultivation technique. Mastering one greatly enhances physical attributes and grants a special combat method—extremely powerful."
"When I learned Wolf Run, I could easily knock down a dozen healthy adult men barehanded. And before anyone observed the Four Beasts diagrams, they were required to sign confidentiality agreements—absolutely forbidden to reveal any information related to the diagrams."
"If not for Mr. Sai first drawing the Wolf Run spiritual diagram, and if I weren't already outside China and no longer in the special unit, I would never have revealed any of this." Li Xiaodao spoke solemnly.
