Chapter 78: Three Bodies

~6 min read 1,083 words

After a short while, Wang Yu returned alone to the stone hut on the cliff, only to find his storage pouch now conspicuously filled with new items.

One hundred spirit stones, a mechanical flying bird specially made for disciples’ travel, twenty jin of spirit rice, ten jin of dried meat from a high-grade beast, twelve vials of Zengyuan Pills suitable for mid- to late-stage Qi Condensation cultivators, and a spirit beast pouch designed specifically for carrying spirit beasts.

These are all the benefits new inner sect disciples are entitled to, along with all their cultivation resources for the coming year.

Only after speaking with Zhou Shi Xiong did Wang Yu learn that such benefits were available upon entering the inner sect—he had never claimed any of them during the past two months.

With Zhou Shi Xiong’s enthusiastic help, he went straight to the General Affairs Hall and claimed all these items.

When he left the Yin family, Yin Linglong had practically given him half of the family’s remaining spirit stones—about two hundred—and over twenty vials of Juling Fluid for early-stage Qi Condensation cultivation.

These resources should be enough to sustain his cultivation for a long time.

Wang Yu returned to his bed, sat cross-legged, but did not begin breathing exercises. Instead, his expression turned grave as he murmured softly, “Overclock.”

Instantly, his senses multiplied countlessfold, everything around him slowed to a crawl, and his mind entered an unimaginable superstate.

Leveraging his supermind’s astonishing analytical power, he began recalling every event that had happened to him in the past two worlds and simulating countless possibilities.

As time passed, Wang Yu’s brow furrowed, then suddenly cleared, then grew thoughtful, then shifted abruptly.

Suddenly, he tried speaking.

“Taiyuan, reset the system.”

……

“Taiyuan, reset fusion.”

……

“Taiyuan, query current functions.”

……

……

“Taiyuan, enter login interface.”

This time, as soon as he finished speaking, a mechanical, emotionless voice finally echoed in Wang Yu’s mind:

“...Host preparing to enter system login interface... Host automatically exiting overclock synchronization mode... Host entering system login interface...”

Wang Yu felt a flash of white light swirl before his eyes, and suddenly he stood in a familiar dark space, before him only a small glowing white screen.

Game sleep pod!

He recognized the place at once, slightly surprised.

At that moment, from somewhere in the darkness, a furious female voice suddenly rang out:

“Who’s there? Did someone else come in? Wang Yu, is it you?”

The voice sounded vaguely familiar.

Before Wang Yu could ask who it was, a timid boy’s voice whispered from another corner:

“Where is this? Let me go! I want to return to Wangjia Village—my father and mother will be worried. Yes, and my brother—I need to help them till the fields; there’s still uncultivated land at home... wu wu...” The boy ended with a soft sob.

Wang Yu froze.

“Hey, hey, who are you three? It’s so dark here you won’t even let me see your faces—this isn’t some kidnapping, is it? China’s a rule-of-law society, don’t go down a path with no return!” Another unmistakably familiar young man’s voice came from another part of the darkness.

If the first two voices had shocked Wang Yu, this last voice made his scalp prickle and nearly made him jump out of his skin.

“Both of you shut up,” the woman snapped at the others, then turned coldly to Wang Yu. “Wang Yu, I don’t care what this place is, but I know you’re there. I want to talk to you face to face. For the right price, nothing in this world can’t be negotiated.”

The other two fell silent, apparently cowed by her tone, leaving only faint breathing.

Wang Yu glanced around the darkness and instinctively raised a hand, groping—only to touch smooth pod walls.

This dark space was far too narrow to hold four people.

He frowned, then finally spoke:

“You’re the one who attacked me in the base? How do you know my name?”

“Hehe, you forgot? I once used my ability to copy your memories—though I only skimmed a little, your name was easy to remember.” The woman replied with a light laugh.

She was the blonde, blue-eyed beauty from the base.

“I see,” Wang Yu said after a pause. “Then what’s going on here? Can you explain?”

“How should I know? After my ability went out of control, I woke up trapped here—with only these two idiots for company,” the blonde woman snapped.

“Hey, who are you calling an idiot? I’m only not arguing because you’re a woman—or else...” The young man bristled, voice rising.

Wang Yu’s eye twitched at the sound.

“Hehe, this man—surely you’ve guessed part of who he is, and you’re confused, right? If you’re willing to talk to me properly, I’ll tell you his origin.” The blonde woman’s tone shifted, now laced with allure.

After a moment’s thought, Wang Yu placed one hand on the white screen before him—and a web address appeared.

The next instant, amid the others’ exclamations, a flash of white light swept through.

Wang Yu and three figures appeared together in a silver hall, dominated by a massive screen and a black metal chair.

Wang Yu’s gaze immediately swept over the other three.

One wore a tight emerald-green uniform, blonde hair, blue eyes, pale skin, and a curvaceous figure—the same blonde woman who had attacked him.

Another wore tattered coarse cloth, thin and frail, skin dark, about thirteen or fourteen years old, face filled with panic.

“Wang Tiezhu.”

Wang Yu cautiously called out to the boy.

“Big brother, you know me? That’s great—finally someone recognizes me!” The boy burst into joy.

Wang Yu nodded, then turned his gaze to the last young man.

He was around twenty, dressed in a black school uniform, features neatly defined, casually scanning the surroundings—but Wang Yu instantly saw the fear hidden in his eyes.

“Ding Yu?”

Wang Yu called out to the young man.

“You know me? I feel like I’ve seen you before... Are you the owner here?” The young man frowned at Wang Yu.

“Calling me the owner of this place... you could say that,” Wang Yu replied, forcing down his shock as he stared at the young man’s eerily familiar face.

His appearance, demeanor, speech, even the black suit—he was exactly Wang Yu before he joined the base’s secret project.

But he himself was here—so why was another “Ding Yu” here too?

Wang Yu pondered, his gaze drifting back to the stunning face of the blonde woman.
