Chapter 103: Enemy Reinforcements
"Take care of the employer and the vehicle," Brian said as he strapped on his own bulletproof vest. At the same time, he asked Henry in the front seat, "Bulletproof vest? Gun?"
"Just give me a pistol. I don't have time to let go of both hands right now." Henry, with the accelerator pressed almost to the floor, could not relax for a single moment.
Driving on non-standard roads, the road conditions are the hardest to judge. One careless move could cause the tires to get stuck in a mud hole. If you're lucky, you're just stuck and can't get out even by stomping on the gas. If you're unlucky, you'll lose control and roll over.
Brian grabbed a Colt M1911 and placed it on the passenger seat. He himself took a rifle, leaned half his body out the window, and fired a few shots backward. At the same time, he used this opportunity to observe the surroundings.
Back inside the car, Brian said, "There's a convoy chasing us from about two or three kilometers away. The dust on the grassland isn't as obvious as in desert areas, so we can't tell their scale. Do you know how to get there, Henry?"
"Back to the airport? Can you contact the airport in advance to prepare, or should we be careful that someone goes to take them down?" Henry replied.
Since only one pursuing vehicle was temporarily blocked by the rear car, Brian only fired a few sporadic shots to show his presence. This also conserved ammunition.
Speaking of contacting the airport personnel, he immediately pulled out a satellite phone and dialed the pilot who was waiting by the plane at the airport.
A moment later, the call connected. Brian immediately asked, "Luka, is there any situation on your end?"
"No, everything is fine. We encountered an ambush by a group of kidnappers and are currently trying to shake them off."
"I'm notifying you now to prepare for takeoff. But don't make the movements too obvious to avoid drawing attention. I'm not sure if this group of kidnappers has accomplices who could send people to attack you at the airport."
"Remember, fill up with fuel, complete the pre-takeoff checks. Warm up the engines if needed. We will take off immediately upon our arrival."
After giving the instructions, Brian asked the man in the driver's seat again, "Henry, are you confident you can get back to the airport in how much time?"
"Two hours," Henry replied. This was even shorter than the time it took them to come, because on the way here, they hadn't been like this; even rolling over a small hole made the whole car feel like it was taking off, bouncing heavily.
However, getting back to the airport in two hours required Henry and the others not to go the wrong direction and not to slow down. This meant it was destined not to be a comfortable journey.
Receiving the answer, Brian immediately said to the person on the phone, "We will be back at the airport in about two hours. Get ready. Also, take out your guns. If anyone comes to trouble you, you must protect yourselves."
After ending the call, Brian put away the satellite phone. At the same time, he explained to the other two in the car, "There is no problem at the airport yet. We will take off and leave as soon as we arrive."
At this moment, Audrey suddenly asked, "Henry, what about your stomach ache earlier?"
"That was faked, Boss. Don't worry about me."
"Alright, you fooled me." Audrey seemed unaware that she was in danger, instead worrying about trivial details.
This mindset had to be said to be very strong. Perhaps it was the calmness unique to older people. Both Henry and Brian thought so.
If it were a young girl in her teens, she would be screaming like a pig being slaughtered, crying desperately for her mother.
Actually, many people overlook one thing: Audrey He Ben's childhood was spent in the Netherlands during World War II, occupied by the Germans.
She even assisted the Dutch resistance movement; her family even hid Allied soldiers. Although she might not have been on the front lines or fired a gun, she was certainly not that kind of girl who knew nothing of the real world.
But even knowing this, neither Henry nor Brian would ever hand a gun to her. Being fearless of the threat of war is one thing; killing is another.
Besides, if such an incident required the employer herself to step in personally, then hiring such a large group of people would be a waste of heartache.
Henry focused most of his energy on driving and watching the movements of the pursuers, thinking through various strategies in his mind.
"Careful!" Suddenly shouting a warning to the two people in the car, Henry jerked the steering wheel, swerving the car and narrowly dodging an off-road vehicle that crashed in from the side.
At the same time, he grabbed the pistol on the passenger seat, fired two shots out the window, and then tossed the gun back onto the passenger seat.
Unlike fighting others where it's purely faith shooting and hitting someone depends on luck, with the assistance of a Kryptonian's super senses and super brain, even with two vehicles moving at high speed, Henry could hit exactly where he aimed.
These two shots: one hit the front tire, and the other pierced the windshield, killing the driver of the off-road vehicle.
Just watch as the Jeep crossing horizontally between the two Land Rover Rovers ahead and behind, having blown a tire and failed to dodge a hole on the ground, the entire vehicle lost control and flipped into the air!
The few living people on board, who had no habit of wearing seatbelts, were all thrown out, emitting terrifying screams.
"What an accurate shot, kid!" Brian exclaimed.
"Another car is coming," Henry warned.
Brian squeezed in front of the lady's seat and fired shots toward the driver's side. Just as Henry said, that convoy chasing them had caught up from the side.
One could only say the lead vehicle of the opposing side was very experienced in intercepting on the grassland. Unless Henry and the others deviated from the route and were forced far away from the direction of the airport, as long as they wanted to return to the airport, they would inevitably be caught by this convoy.
So they could only choose to take them out or shake them off.
Fortunately, the interception failed. Just before the opponent blocked the path ahead, Henry drove through and took the opportunity to smash the opponent's lead vehicle.
This support convoy could only make a sharp turn, merge with the Jeep driven by the guide, and chase from behind.
Henry and the two vehicles changed from a leisurely high-speed run to a pursuit fraught with danger.
Speaking of those pickup trucks mounted with machine guns, if anyone could stand up and spray fire, at least one of the two cars today would have to be left behind here.
Fortunately, at the current speed, no one could stand on the bumpy rear bed.
A little black guy who didn't believe in bad luck stood up from the rear bed, pulled the machine gun's bolt, and prepared to spray fire.
Unexpectedly, the pickup truck bounced, causing his muzzle to sweep a full circle directly at his own vehicle's front, blowing the driver's head open.
The little black guy, bounced into the air, ultimately still lost his grip on the machine gun and was thrown out of the car. And the vehicle he originally rode in didn't fare any better.
Seeing the driver killed by bullets from who knows where, the black guy in the passenger seat hurriedly grabbed the steering wheel.
The impact when the car hit the ground caused the black guy in the passenger seat holding the steering wheel to lose control of the vehicle. The front wheels changing angle violently caused this pickup truck to lose control completely. First it skidded, then it rolled sideways for several turns.
But the vehicles still in pursuit had long since gone far away.
