Chapter 164: Crazy Battle

~7 min read 1,240 words

"Why, you..." Beast asked, dumbfounded.

Joker Chao swallowed the pizza slice in his hand in one bite, sucking his fingers as he spoke: "I don't know either. Anyway, no one came to play with me, so I took the opportunity to eat something. Filling my stomach shouldn't be a problem, right? Who told you airline food is so terrible."

"But you..."

Joker Chao said with righteous indignation: "I wasn't wearing an X-Men uniform, and the Brotherhood doesn't have uniforms either. Anyway, when you guys started fighting, I just crouched down and hid from bullets like an ordinary civilian. Those soldiers just treated me as a dead civilian.

"Do you think that's what I've been doing in Hollywood? You probably don't know how well I know this job. Soldiers judge threats, not by weird costumes.

"Besides, I'm not the only one staying to watch the show. Look around, there are so many people. --"

Beast looked in the direction Joker Chao pointed, and sure enough, there were many unrelated people hiding and watching the spectacle.

"--I told you, with you guys causing trouble every other day, New Yorkers have long developed a big heart. If it were twenty years later, even more people would be filming with their phones for video traffic, believe it or not."

If Beast were in his human form, Hank McCoy, perhaps Joker Chao's scolding could make Hank doubt life itself, or at the very least leave him flustered and embarrassed.

Beast's personality in his beast form wasn't completely changed, but it was slightly different from his human form, being much more decisive and direct.

At least he didn't want to follow Joker Chao's twisted logic, but instead said: "Hope you're full." Then he grabbed the head with the green pompadour with his large palm and threw it at the American soldier!

Like a rolling log, he swept away two advancing soldiers in one go. Joker Chao looked at the person pinned beneath him and said: "If I say I didn't mean to, can you let me go?"

I told you, the soldiers' logic for judging friend or foe is quite simple. Even if it wasn't intentional, Joker Chao still took down two people and didn't even plan to get up immediately!

So a soldier pressed a gun against Joker Chao's face and shouted: "Don't move! Get the hell out of there!"

"Hmm, have you noticed yourself that the two orders contradict each other? Which one should I obey?"

Because the American soldier, tense with emotion facing the Brotherhood of Mutants, couldn't relax from Joker Chao's banter. He screamed hysterically, simultaneously placing his finger on the trigger, ready to fire at any moment.

But the mistake he made was getting too close to Joker Chao. The muzzle was almost pressed against the other's forehead, yet he wasn't aiming properly. Instead, he was shaking left and right in panic.

This didn't even require displaying super speed. Spotting a gap, Joker Chao dodged the muzzle. Then he grabbed the barrel and snatched the rifle away with ease.

Holding the barrel in reverse, Joker Chao, amidst the shocked gazes of the soldiers, swung the rifle like a bat and knocked down the soldier whose rifle had been snatched.

Looking at such a record, he stroked the reversed rifle in his hand and said gently: "Ah, look, I'm smart, right? I know the balance point of a rifle is in the rear, while the barrel is lighter. So hitting people with the stock part hurts more.

"If reversed, the result would be different. Hitting someone with it might just be a harmless tap. Oh, baby, since you are so handy, I will give you a name."

For the brief moment Joker Chao examined the rifle in his hand, the battlefield fell silent, entering a strange atmosphere.

"Aha, I name you Destroy!" Satisfied, Joker Chao attacked again with the reversed rifle, knocking down one American soldier after another. The battle instantly erupted.

In this close-quarters combat, especially with Joker Chao weaving through the ranks, the rifles were completely useless. Anyone daring to fire would have to be prepared to hit their own men.

For Joker Chao, he only needed clever footwork to make the soldiers hesitate, afraid to fire easily. Then, holding Destroy in reverse, he would smash the soldiers.

Unfortunately, modern rifles weren't made for this kind of thing. After smashing a few people, the entire gun actually fell apart!

Even the barrel in his hand bent into a strange angle.

When Joker Chao threw away the disassembled rifle, there were already three or five soldiers on the ground unconscious. Several others were shaking their heads, trying to clear their dazed minds.

Picking up another rifle, Joker Chao held it in reverse as well. With the same gentle gaze and tone, he stroked the rifle and said: "Baby, I name you Destroy II. I hope you can accompany me longer than the first one. Come on, soldiers!"

Street urban combat, with countless vehicles as cover. Joker Chao didn't need to display any speed or strength; relying on what others saw as unparalleled luck, he shuttled through the hail of bullets and neatly smashed the soldiers.

In fact, every one of his movements was the result of careful calculation. But with the assistance of his super brain, it appeared as if it were intuition, or as if blessed by the Goddess of Luck.

But compared to a strangely dressed clown constantly smashing soldiers with a rifle, what was even more chilling was that crazy, never-ending laughter.

The soldiers had never experienced such a battle. It seemed that if everyone just put in a little more effort, they could take down this crazy clown, but they were always just a little short.

Although no one suffered a fatal wound, at most they were just unconscious. But that laughter seemed to mock them, making everyone's blood run cold.

And all of this changed when a squad of better-equipped assault infantry, specifically designed to counter mutants, joined the fray.

They were equipped with electric shock stun guns, fearless of friendly fire. Even if they hit their own men, their gear would prevent them from being shocked and paralyzed by their own people.

This group of soldiers surrounded Joker Chao. The other soldiers, lacking equipment, dragged their fallen comrades away.

The Destroy rifle in his hand was already on its fifth or sixth iteration. Joker Chao held it with both hands by his side like a baseball bat.

Originally scanning the American soldiers surrounding him with a wary gaze, Joker Chao suddenly put the gun down, using it as a cane. He widened his eyes, revealed a lecherous smile, and started the classic American joke setup: "Knock, knock."

Unfortunately, the soldiers didn't fall for it. Everyone fired at once! More than ten electric shock stun rounds all hit Joker Chao. And he cooperated well, pretending to be paralyzed by the shock, his body stiffening and convulsing on the ground.

The reason he cooperated so well was that his super senses had already noticed that all the X-Men and Brotherhood mutants had been taken down. The soldiers were focused on capture, not directly killing the mutants.

When the soldiers, using props similar to those for catching dogs, placed the mutant-control collar around Joker Chao's neck, the person playing dead anticipated what would happen next. He was so excited he almost gave himself away, whistling.
