Chapter 78: Target: Who?
Tony Stark, fierce as a warhorse, advanced with standard tactical maneuvers like a gun god. He sprayed anyone holding a gun, his record showing a hundred percent hit rate.
In fact, Henry was covering from behind; if Tony's rifle was about to run dry, he would fire a shot to send those uncertain whether they were Continental Hotel gunmen on their way.
Along the way, it appeared the enemy had not gone on a killing spree. Most of the guests or hosts originally at the banquet were merely herded like quail into the corners of the rooms to crouch.
The gunshots heard earlier were mostly warnings. Only a very few with abnormal brains, specifically those high on drugs, rose up in resistance and got shot, then fell silent.
By comparison, the duo of Tony and Henry were the ruthless ones...
Those hit by Henry, if rescued in time, still had a chance to live and were not likely to suffer disabilities.
Tony's marksmanship was unstable. Some were shot in the forehead and fell, others were shot in the body and fell, still gasping their last breath.
Fortunately, Tony Stark had no habit of finishing people off; he was bent on neutralizing the banquet threat as quickly as possible.
Finally, the first floor of the villa was cleared by the two of them working together. For those still alive, Tony did not forget to tell them that Stark Industries' security team would arrive shortly, and everyone should stay put and find cover.
Of course, some bold individuals picked up the guns brought by the gunmen and ran out with others or alone. All of them thought to leave the villa as quickly as possible to avoid getting further involved in the shootout.
Just as Henry could not stop Tony's actions, Tony Stark could not command this group of strangers from all directions.
After all, everyone was only responsible for their own little lives. One could say the young master of the Stark family in this era was not yet enough to be a pillar of support. If one could escape, who would stay on the battlefield?
Whether to continue clearing the second floor or challenge the open ground by the pool as the source of trouble was not an option at all. Because Tony was already hiding at the edge of the large floor-to-ceiling windows, seeing the scene by the pool.
The scene outside the floor-to-ceiling windows showed two groups of people controlling everyone by the pool from the front and the rear.
The Miss who had been in the pool on the inflatable mattress was also driven up to the poolside. Whether invited guests or receptionists and playmate girls sent by the banquet company, they were all squeezed together at this moment.
One group of gunmen was interrogating fiercely, even threatening the group with guns.
Having long discarded the empty rifle and switched to a pistol, Tony asked Henry, "Do you have the confidence to deal with one of the groups?"
Henry removed the magazine, glanced at it, and reinserted it, saying, "I have two bullets left."
One word was worth a thousand; Tony had already given up all hope on Henry. He pondered on his own how to solve the gunmen without hurting the hostages.
Before he could find an answer, perhaps the previous talking, or the sound of Henry removing and inserting the magazine, attracted the attention of the gunmen by the pool. One group walked toward the villa interior and fired wildly at the floor-to-ceiling windows.
At the same time, a third group of gunmen entered the pool area.
The situation took a sharp turn for the worse.
Tony Stark did not dodge but charged, rushing out through the shattered floor-to-ceiling windows and counterattacking the group firing wildly.
The two people suddenly bursting out also scared the gunmen by the pool. Especially the group firing wildly, who split left and right, shooting while seeking cover.
The other two groups of gunmen in the distance also raised their guns and fired.
Running, Tony shot down one person with wild fire; the remaining two were taken care of by Henry. The two, without stopping, rushed to hide behind a low flowerbed.
At this moment, the flowerbed they leaned against was riddled with chaotic gunfire. Whether the future Iron Man or a Kryptonian, they could only shrink their bodies as much as possible to hide two people behind this small flowerbed.
Of course, one person was there to cause trouble. So Henry consciously hid in the position closer to the outside, ensuring the young master of the Stark family would not cry out from being shot.
Tony ejected the magazine, saw it was empty, and realized he only had the last round in the chamber. He asked, "Do you have bullets?"
Henry showed his pistol with the holster flipped open, saying nothing. Tony just cursed, "Fuck."
At this time, the gunmen opposite also stopped firing. Because the siren of a police car was already heard from a distance, the gunmen had little time to withdraw.
The gunmen were equally anxious; someone cursed, "Damn it, has anyone found the target?"
The same group threatened the people they controlled with guns, shouting, "Where is Josh Hilton! Has anyone seen him?"
"Don't think those two just now can be your saviors; they are in trouble themselves, do you know? Maybe I don't need to leave so many people; just one who can talk will do."
The newly arrived group of gunmen said with a helpless tone, "Does no one recognize what the target looks like?"
"Go to hell, if we knew, why would we be asking around here for so long." The cursing person suddenly fired a shot. Whether he hit anyone or not, it made the controlled people scream in terror.
The newly arrived group advised, "Alright, stop scaring them. At least this group is very loyal; this is something worthy of praise."
"Damn it, what exactly are you talking about?"
Another gunshot rang out, this time accompanied by a pig-like scream.
The one who fired was the leader of the newly arrived group of gunmen; he said, "Josh Hilton, you have a group of good friends. But obviously, that is not enough."
"Why!"
Henry, hiding behind the flowerbed, recognized that as the voice of the little fatty. It really sounded like a pig being slaughtered.
The gunman who fired said, "Oh, you are lucky. Because the employer had a special request, saying that before killing you, you must know why."
"You are going to kill me too!"
"You don't think we came with so many people just to put another hole in your ass, do you?"
"Spare me, I beg you, spare me."
"Begging me is useless, because you said too many things you shouldn't have, letting too many people know. The employer does not like things getting out of control in places he cannot see; you should know this."
"I was wrong, I won't say it again. Please spare me this time."
"You are begging the wrong person, Mr. Hilton. We are only responsible for killing you, not for forgiving you. Take my advice, go confess to God."
"Wait!" Tony shouted; just as he was about to rise, Henry pulled him down again.
At this moment, two bullets flew over their heads, showing this group had been waiting for the two heroes to pop up. The subsequent third gunshot made the little fatty's scream stop abruptly.
