Chapter 79: The American Police Who Arrived Late But Still Arrived

~7 min read 1,281 words

Effective suppressive fire and decisive action. All signs proved that the third group to enter was in no way comparable to the rookie gunmen they had encountered before.

Tony wanted to stop the other party, but he, hiding behind the flowerbed, was clearly pinned down by the bullets firing at intervals. If Henry hadn't pulled him just then, he would have taken at least one bullet.

The leader who fired said, "The target is neutralized. We need to extract. If we drag this out, the police will be here. You don't want to deal with LAPD, do you?"

A panicked gunman said, "What about the witnesses here? Should we silence them forever?"

"Come on. The employer chose this occasion to make an example of him and warn others. If you kill everyone here, who are you warning? Besides, you know the difficulty of this bounty. If any of these Young Masters here dies, we'll be on the bounty list tomorrow too. If you slaughter everyone here, we might not even survive until tomorrow."

"F***, we're just leaving?"

"Rest assured. These Young Masters are smart enough; they know what to say and what not to say. Even if they don't understand, someone in their families certainly does. If you want to stay behind and worry about such things, then excuse me. I'm leaving first."

"What about the kill proof? Let me tell you, my men get half. These people were under my control. We also have merit."

"The employer will see the news and know we succeeded. If you want your share, your men must survive to get back to the hotel. Before that, what you need to fear isn't me, but the people coming now."

The wail of the police sirens suddenly stopped, proof of their arrival at the destination. Two groups of gunmen fired rapid triple shots into the air, as if notifying others.

The one who acted even shouted toward the flowerbed, "You two heroes hiding there, we are leaving. As long as you don't jump out to stop us, we can coexist peacefully. Agreed?"

"This damn house..." Tony tried to stand up again, but Henry pulled him down just the same, and then two familiar shots whizzed over their heads.

"F***!" Tony cursed.

Tony Stark, well aware he wasn't bulletproof, obediently hid behind the flowerbed this time. Until a group entered, shouting, "LAPD! Drop your weapons! Hands up!"

Henry had long since tossed aside his empty gun and raised both hands high.

Tony was simple; he also discarded his gun, holding his hands half-raised, saying, "I am Tony Stark. I am also a victim. I will not say anything until my lawyer arrives."

With a young master from an extremely wealthy family taking the lead, Henry basically suffered no trouble. He just couldn't leave before the lawyers from Stark Industries arrived.

Besides the police cars, ambulances and FBI personnel arrived later on the scene. But if speaking of numbers, it was the security personnel of Stark Industries who were the most numerous; they simply lacked law enforcement authority.

After all, the status and standing of those involved were extraordinary. And it was hard to say whether these people were in the position of perpetrators or victims, which one made it more difficult for these law enforcement officers.

Anyway, the LAPD officers, accustomed to seeing the world, were completely baffled by the people here. Purely wealthy individuals and celebrities were not the same level of person to the police.

Because the latter didn't necessarily have money, and even if they did, they worried about damage to their reputation; the former had far fewer such concerns. One could imagine that celebrities had far more weaknesses than mere wealthy people.

If celebrities gathered for a party, even if there was corruption and guns, or even if a life was lost, a dedicated public relations firm would step in to clean up the mess, then package the incident.

If a singer had an accident, they might release a memorial album or hold a memorial concert. If a movie star had an accident, classic films might be re-released in theaters. Regardless of the type of star, merchandise would inevitably see a surge in sales.

One could say that once a star died, business opportunities were everywhere, even if it was only to profit from this final wave.

Even if it was just a scandal, the vacant resources could be used for others. Even prior investments had countless methods to be recovered or transferred. The only thing that suffered a loss was the 'product' itself.

So when a star had an accident, aside from fans or moviegoers being disappointed, commercially it was a carnival. The police just needed to cooperate; they were merely the least important link.

But today, a group of Young Masters from wealthy families had an accident; for the police, the nature of the situation was completely different.

Should it be prosecuted severely, or let off lightly? Without clarifying who the victims and perpetrators were, the police simply couldn't make a judgment. More seriously, sometimes investigating the identities was a taboo...

So when the FBI stepped in, the LAPD chief happily handed over this trouble.

Don't look at it as the level of responsibility increasing; for the young master of the Stark family, the trouble became smaller. FBI agents were more skilled at handling matters at their level; relatively speaking, those small police officers would be at a loss.

So at this moment, Henry and Tony, together, under the protection of Stark Industries security personnel, sat at the rear door of an ambulance, checking for possible wounds, letting a large black paramedic fiddle with them.

The two watched the police coordinating with FBI personnel busying themselves back and forth as if watching a show, while other paramedics were rescuing the injured.

Those confirmed dead were temporarily left in place; the bodies would only be moved after the sampling personnel finished collecting evidence from the scene.

No police came to question Tony. The young master had made it crystal clear he was waiting for his lawyer; the police certainly wouldn't go looking for embarrassment.

They mainly questioned the staff of the banquet company. These people didn't have the confidence to call a lawyer at the drop of a hat. At least clarify the sequence of events first, and filter the importance of relevant parties.

Compared to Tony Stark, who looked completely at ease, indifferent to the police and FBI agents bustling about in front of him, Henry's appearance was a complete mess.

Most importantly, his entire body was wet as he ran around with Tony. Although he had shaken off quite a bit of water during the process, his clothes were all wrinkled; as wretched as one could be, he was that wretched.

Tony Stark looked at this temporary comrade's chaotic state and suddenly asked, "Why did you help me?"

"Why help you?" Henry looked bewildered, not knowing where the point of such a question lay.

Tony said, "Look, after most people we save, their choice is to run if they have the chance. You didn't play much of a role, yet you followed until the end. Come to think of it, this is our third meeting, right?"

Didn't play much of a role! Oh my god! Take my Kryptonian slap! You little bastard. Without me backing you up, how many more holes would be in your body? Don't you have any idea in your own heart?

Before Henry, whose face had changed slightly, could answer, Tony asked again, "By the way, shouldn't you still be filming a movie? I remember the filming of that movie wasn't finished yet."
