Chapter 89: Seeing Off the Guest

~8 min read 1,421 words

After the dinner party ended, unlike other banquets that had second or third gatherings or other entertainment programs.

The Alex Hart couple left first. Before departing, he not only gave Henry a personal business card but also left Henry's contact number. His expression was intriguing.

Since Catherine came to Los Angeles this time to stay in the Stark family's villa, she had no intention of moving.

However, she also exchanged contact information with Henry and said, "Regarding your job, I will contact Audrey. But neither of us lives in Los Angeles, so we will need to schedule a time to meet.

"So wait patiently, child. If you hope to see the other Lady He Ben, the great star you admire. And the decision lies in her hands, you understand that, right?"

"I understand, Catherine." Henry only thanked her and said nothing more.

Because if he said too much, the "Lady He Ben" right in front of him would get jealous. Eighty-year-old aged vinegar; even a Kryptonian couldn't stand it.

Walking out the front door, Henry was surprised to find that flashy red Ferrari was still there.

Tony was standing by the car smoking. As soon as he saw someone come out, he stomped out the remaining cigarette butt and said at the same time, "Get in the car, I'll drive you home."

"Yo-ho, I thought I'd have to walk home myself." Henry joked.

Tony said displeasedly, "I brought you here, so it's normal to drive you back. Besides, I don't want you wandering around this wealthy district all night.

"It's not like you'll run into robbing niggers, but you'll meet meddling police officers. So get in the car; if I have to kick your ass, your spot will be in the front trunk."

This flashy Ferrari had a mid-engine layout, so the luggage compartment was at the front hood. The capacity wasn't large; at least in Henry's X-ray eyes, to fit himself inside, he'd have to break his arms or legs into several pieces.

Henry certainly didn't want to stay in the luggage compartment, so he obediently got into the car.

As Tony slammed the accelerator, Henry's whole body was squeezed into the seat. The engine's roar seemed to vent Tony's emotions, instantly pushing the revs to the redline zone.

Even though it was a sports car designed for grip, Tony managed to make it drift. The large iron gate that had slowly opened a moment earlier was exactly the width of one car when the Ferrari passed through, showing that every timing had been calculated.

One had to admit that in terms of vehicle control, Tony Stark indeed possessed considerable talent. This was also why he could drive a Formula racing car in an official race on the Monte Carlo track in Morocco in the movies.

Although judging by the racing car model, it wasn't the top-tier F1 level, probably just F2 level. But a racing license wasn't that easy to get, nor could just anyone drive in an official race.

However, once on the regular road, Tony didn't enter a street racing mode but instead obeyed the speed limit. The Ferrari's engine revs entered a stable range, neither a high gear near idle nor a high rev near the engine's limit.

Seeing this posture, Henry knew Tony had something to say; otherwise, he wouldn't be in such a hurry to send him off.

Tony was neither used to nor satisfied with being rejected. At this moment, he brought it up again, "Why didn't you accept my job offer?"

"Bringing this up again?" Henry retorted, "What do you think I can do besides taking bullets?"

Tony, momentarily speechless, said after a moment, "Actually, a mutant like you shouldn't try to use your talents to better integrate into ordinary people's lives?"

: So he thought of me as a mutant.

Henry didn't intend to clear up this misunderstanding and asked again, "Then our genius Mr. Tony, can you tell me, who do America's top lawyers serve? What kind of people can afford these elite lawyers?"

This question made Tony silent again.

Henry continued, "If someone has to hire me to take bullets, first of all, they must have done something that makes people want to shoot them. Among such people, I think nine out of ten are doing bad things.

"And the remaining one, I think he also can't afford the remuneration to hire me. So you tell me, is it really a good thing for me to earn such money against my conscience?

"If you say again that I should be a vigilante, running around saving people and such. Don't you think that by the time I arrive, the person might already be dead? Just as the police happen to show up and arrest me as a suspect.

"How much of a fool would I have to be to do such thankless work? So voluntarily becoming Lady He Ben's driver and bodyguard is already the best solution I can think of.

"At least she is a good person, and going to places like Africa, I can be useful. More importantly, she can at least pay me a basic salary. Unlike other poor people who can only make me give my services for free."

Now Tony also knew that Henry's attitude wasn't unwillingness to help others, nor wasting his talents. He just picked who to help, and he picked so well that no one could find fault.

Henry continued, "Refusing your job offer today, if it made you feel disappointed, I can only say it's a pity. But some things must be made clear; I'm not actually really refusing you. This is obvious, isn't it, genius Mr. Tony?"

"Just Tony. Mr. Tony, that sarcastic tone." Tony complained lightly, then said again, "You want to reject Alex?"

Henry said, "Of course. Didn't you see that financial big shot's eyes lighting up when he saw I could take bullets? It's just that it was our first meeting, so some things were hard to say.

"We've met a few times, and with Lady He Ben making jokes on the side, the words I used to reject you can be taken as a joke without being too rude.

"This is the best result for me. I don't even want to think about why a big shot like him would need someone like me."

Tony remembered the inside story Alex had mentioned. Knowing so much, was it really possible that, as he claimed, he had absolutely no connection?

"If you are worried about him, you could propose more ordinary conditions. No need to reveal your abilities." Tony criticized.

Henry sneered, "If I only showed myself as an ordinary person, with your resources, would it be hard to find someone more capable and more trustworthy than me? Do I really have any other bargaining chips?

"Oh, sorry, I forgot. After all, for a young master of the Stark family, life is simple mode. You can't understand how difficult it is for a small person like me to cross class barriers and enter your circle, even just as a servant.

"If I don't show some skills that no one else has, how can you look at me, a stranger, with higher regard? I won't naively think that having talked a few times, especially not always pleasant experiences, makes us friends.

"If we were really friends, when Catherine He Ben asked for my evaluation just now, I believe you could have been more straightforward. And you wouldn't have used 'Lady He Ben' as bait to hook me, wanting to see me humiliated.

"But I didn't feel offended or displeased because of it. Whether you, young master, were satisfied with today's monkey show or not, I did my best. All of this was to repay you for giving me such an opportunity.

"For this, I am truly grateful, with no disrespect intended. After all, such an opportunity isn't something everyone can encounter. This is absolutely not saying anything sarcastic or trying to mock anyone.

"And I believe our life trajectories won't overlap that much in the future. I am neither the son of a billionaire, nor do our circles mix."

The car arriving at the destination stopped by the roadside. Henry conscientiously opened the door and got out. Standing by the car, he made a Western-style waving bow gesture, gave a commercial standard smile, and said:

"So, goodbye, never see you again, never see you again. Mr. Tony Stark."

Tony Stark's silence was the best response.
