Chapter 90: Airport Pickup
Arriving once more at the Stark family villa, Henry had driven over in a third-generation Cadillac DeVille, a 1965 vintage model.
He stood by the passenger door, holding a single red rose, to welcome Ms. Katharine Hepburn into the car.
There stood the eighty-four-year-old grandmother, dressed in a violet lady's gown, topped with a silk wide-brimmed sun hat, paired with long white gloves. The style was retro, yet it fully displayed her elegant temperament.
Henry presented the fresh flowers and praised, "Katharine, you are truly especially beautiful today."
"Your mouth is indeed sweet. It's just, today I only have one flower." Katharine spotted the bouquet placed on the back seat and teased.
"A single vibrant red rose is enough." Henry immediately opened the passenger door and made a 'please' gesture.
Katharine lightly tapped Henry's head with the red rose and said, "Your mind is truly quick. I almost wonder, if I were sixty years younger, would I have fallen under the spell of your mouth?"
"That would be an immense honor."
Seated in the passenger seat, Katharine tapped the leather pad above the glove box and said, "Drive faster. Today is the day your fan meets the big star. You wouldn't want to miss the pickup time and leave our big star waiting."
"Rest assured, the plane arrives at ten in the morning, right? We still have plenty of time. Katharine, have you had breakfast?"
"I have. An old person's meal times cannot be as irregular as yours young people's."
Henry drove while chatting casually, and soon they arrived at Los Angeles International Airport. After parking the car, they entered the airport's arrival hall, where Katharine and Henry, while waiting for someone, played a game of guessing who the paparazzi were.
After all, this was the airport closest to Hollywood; tabloid media and paparazzi reporters often lay in wait to see which star would arrive.
Katharine's arrival did not attract the attention of these young reporters and paparazzi. Their targets were still those current, or those with enough buzz, star celebrities. Naturally, they did not notice that they had shifted from the role of observers to the object being observed.
Not long after, a red dot emerged from the arrival hall: an ivory white T-shirt, a pink pleated skirt, a white silk headscarf draped over the shoulders, and large sunglasses worn by an aging beauty.
She carried two LV large handbags that looked somewhat dated, one large and one small. Treading in a pair of pale pink low-heeled shoes, her outstanding elegant temperament unconsciously attracted the gaze of most people in the airport.
Just as young people could not recognize Katharine at a glance, no one recognized who this aging, slender beauty was.
Only Katharine stepped forward to meet her, giving a big hug. "Audrey, long time no see."
"Katharine, your complexion is still very good." The other Lady He Ben returned the warm embrace and exchanged greetings with her friend of different generations.
Henry, who looked as if he were startled, only came to his senses as if waking from a dream after Katharine gave him a push, and presented the flowers he held, greeting warmly, "Lady He Ben, welcome. I am a huge fan of yours. Seeing you in person is truly..."
Unable to finish a single complete sentence, Henry held back tears, too excited to know how to describe his feelings.
It must be said that even seeing Tony Stark, Henry felt he was just seeing a brat. He did not have the feeling of seeing a person who would become a hero in the future, a great figure.
But the blooming season had passed, and the aging Audrey Hepben, though her skin's luster was gone, with the scarf and sunglasses unable to cover the wrinkles on her face, possessed an excitement that anyone who had never truly been infatuated with a star could not imagine.
Perhaps, after traveling through to this world, the twenty years of emptiness and torment made Henry, who had spent over a month immersed in the movie channel in Alaska, rely on this memory even more than he himself imagined.
Because the memories before the transmigration were too distant and too chaotic. The beauties of Hollywood's Golden Age were like the dawn's first light, truly breaking through the gloom this world brought in the beginning.
So this feeling, besides being the sight of a star he admired, was more a feeling of being saved.
Being saved by Old John in Alaska was physical redemption. But being able to see Audrey Hepben with one's own eyes was like spiritual redemption.
"Thank you, these flowers are truly beautiful." Audrey Hepben accepted the fresh flowers and said, "You must be Mr. Brown."
"Yes, Henry Brown. You may just call me Henry." Henry, who had finally managed to speak a coherent sentence, replied with excited emotion.
Perhaps because Henry's attitude was too intense, Katharine, fearing this boy might truly scare the lady, lightened the mood with a teasing tone and said, "Audrey, do you know what this boy said when he first saw me?"
"Oh, did he also say he was your huge fan?"
"No, he said: 'Oh, it's this Lady He Ben...' That look of disappointment, I felt the need to adjust his nose bridge bone for him."
Stunned for a moment, Audrey immediately chuckled and said, "Did he really say that?"
"Yes, can you imagine his expression?"
"I think I can." Audrey said with a smile, "Do you remember Givenchy? Hubert de Givenchy. When I first visited him, he also mistook me for another Lady He Ben and felt disappointed."
"Then... are we even?" Katharine said.
Audrey hooked her arm with Katharine's and laughed, "Is there such a thing as being even in matters like this?"
The public conversation between the two friends of different generations also attracted the attention of others.
Perhaps the meeting of two old women was not a big deal, but with one named 'Katharine', one named 'Audrey', and both addressed as 'Lady He Ben', it was not without topic potential.
Both had once been big stars accustomed to dealing with media reporters, so they were quite sensitive to the movements of the paparazzi.
Katharine spoke first, "Let's go get in the car first. You flew over from Switzerland, you must be a bit tired."
"It's fine, I rested well on the plane. It's just the jet lag; I haven't been able to adapt that quickly yet."
Katharine turned to Henry, who was standing foolishly to the side, and said, "Child, carry your big star's luggage. Without even this much self-awareness, I truly doubt if you can do your job well."
"Ah, yes, yes." Henry hurriedly took Audrey's handbag and said, "Lady, please allow me to serve you."
"Troubling you, handsome boy." The two old sisters, with their arms hooked together, chatted about their lives during this period as if they had endless things to say.
After seeing the two off to the waiting area shelter, Henry went to the parking lot to drive the car himself.
He also knew that the interview for the position of Audrey Hepben's driver had already begun. He just didn't know whether the first impression he left on the other party was good or bad.
