Chapter 92: New Job Confirmed

~7 min read 1,236 words

"Truly surprising," Audrey expressed her astonishment without reservation. She turned to the older sister beside her and said, "Catherine, the surprise you promised me—could this be it?"

Catherine was a native-born American, so besides English, she only knew a little French, and even that was not very fluent.

In contrast, Audrey was a British woman born in Belgium, with a Dutch noble background in her family. She could use several major European languages as fluently as her mother tongue.

And the three languages Henry used were precisely the official statutory languages of Belgium.

Actually, Catherine hadn't expected Henry to pull this move, but it didn't surprise her much either. Little Tony's sharp tongue had always been as vicious toward young Henry, yet Tony had never called the other a fool, which explained a great deal.

So Catherine shook her head and said, "The surprise I mentioned is not this. The reason I recommended this child to be your driver is because of one of his talents."

"Talent?" Audrey curiously looked at the young man driving the car through the rearview mirror.

Catherine continued, "Little Henry is bulletproof."

"Bulletproof?" Audrey paused for a moment and asked, "The kind of bulletproof I'm thinking of?"

"It should be the kind of bulletproof you're thinking of." Catherine made a gesture of pointing to her head and firing a shot. Then, looking at her right hand shaped like a gun, she shook her head disdainfully.

Audrey He Ben was truly shocked this time.

People with special talents were not particularly rare in this world. Moreover, for unknown reasons, this world's attitude toward mutants possessing special talents was quite tolerant.

Therefore, Audrey He Ben did not feel disgust or discomfort simply because the other party possessed a special talent.

She was merely curious, so she asked, "Henry, if you possess such a talent, I imagine you could find a better job. I cannot afford such remuneration."

"Yes, ladies," Henry said with a tone of helplessness, "but think carefully: what kind of person would be willing to spend a lot of money just to hire me to block bullets?"

Good people? Probably mostly bad people.

Audrey and Catherine realized this question at the same time. Their ages had long proven they were not silly sweethearts raised in a greenhouse; while they hadn't seen every dark side of society, they were certainly not ignorant of it.

Henry spoke directly and frankly, "I never thought of using such a talent to make much money; even if it goes unused, that's fine. Being able to work for Lady He Ben is what I value."

"As for remuneration, just treat me like an ordinary driver or assistant. I am even willing to pay to do this job. So, ladies, how much do you think I should pay to earn the opportunity to serve you?"

"Oh, Henry, is that true? That is so thoughtful," Audrey asked, holding her heart.

"Of course. The opportunity to serve beautiful ladies is not something everyone can encounter. Conversely, there are people everywhere who have done nothing but bad deeds, making others wish to shoot them. To earn such money, I would first have to feed my conscience to the dogs."

"Yes, Audrey, keep this good child by your side. Your health condition is worse than mine, who is twenty years older than you, and you like to run around everywhere. Without a suitable person to take good care of you, how much time do you think we will have left to spend together?"

Catherine timely delivered an assist, leaving Audrey He Ben no chance to get tangled up like the previous Tony Stark, worrying about why Henry, having such a talent, did not go help more people.

Furthermore, traveling everywhere had indeed had some impact on Audrey's health.

She had let go of the elderly person who had always been by her side; besides Andong himself being unable to bear such work, Audrey also felt that Andong was reaching his limits. So she needed new blood to join the team to better help her carry out public welfare activities.

Finally, Audrey He Ben compromised. She said, "Alright, Henry, welcome to the team. For an out-of-fame retired star, I hope you won't disdain the salary I can offer."

"Of course not, my lord."

"Call me Audrey. Otherwise, you call Catherine by her name but only call me Lady He Ben, which makes me feel jealous."

Is acting spoiled with a tone of jealousy a woman's innate skill? Henry admitted he couldn't handle it; even a Kryptonian would break down.

"Alright, Audrey," Henry said softly and carefully while driving, "actually, I have one small wish."

"Oh, please speak."

Henry said, "Actually, if I could get an autographed photo from you, that would be truly wonderful. I searched all of Hollywood but couldn't find photos of the two of you in any souvenir shops, not even in those auction houses."

Catherine, unchanged in her sharp and poisonous tongue, said self-mockingly, "Who would want photos of an aging old woman? So it's normal that you can't find them, isn't it?"

"Or isn't it because people who possess autographed photos of the two of you cherish them so much in their collections that they don't appear on the market?"

"Oh, heavens, Catherine, what is wrong with this child?" Audrey grabbed the older sister's arm, pounding it lightly while holding her heart and asking.

"Alright, I have to admit, the person introduced by the Stark family men looks just like that father and son pair; none of them seem very reliable. How about you pick a new candidate for your assistant?"

"Hello, ladies, I don't speak to just anyone like this," Henry said, feeling aggrieved.

"Indeed, it's the familiar scent." The two old sisters, like a united front, looked at the man in the driver's seat with wary eyes. Then they laughed at themselves.

Henry returned an awkward expression and quickly changed the subject, saying, "So, are we going to the insurance manager's place now?"

"No, the appointment with them is in the afternoon. And now it's approaching noon; perhaps we should find a place for lunch. Do you have any recommendations? I've been on a plane all night, had only a cup of coffee and a slice of toast for breakfast, and now I'm starving," Audrey said.

"Hmm, how about Italian cuisine?" Henry suggested, "It's a family-style restaurant run by an Italian couple. I dare not say whether the taste is authentic in Zhengbuzheng Sect, because I haven't eaten in Italy either. But it is really delicious. Or do you ladies have a restaurant you want to go to?"

The two old sisters exchanged a glance. Audrey said with great interest, "No, let's go to this Italian restaurant. Let's judge whether their Italian cuisine is authentic enough."

Catherine added, "Yes, I'm sick of people treating me like an old person. Always saying I can't eat this, I can't eat that."

Henry, who hadn't thought of this point at the moment, looked embarrassed and wanted to take it back. But seeing the two superstars already discussing Italian food enthusiastically, he still drove the two of them to Aunt Sally's restaurant.

For old people, maintaining a happy mood is more important than dietary restrictions.
