Chapter 95: Journey to Africa
In African hotels, do not expect any star rating or central air conditioning; if a room has a broken electric fan, one should count it as a blessing.
Otherwise, one must endure the harassment of mosquitoes, keep the windows wide open, and hope for wind to blow into the room; but even if wind truly comes, it is likely a hot breeze that is not very comfortable.
Henry's treatment was no different from that of Audrey He Ben, the protagonist of this public welfare trip; both had a single room.
The only difference from other members of the visitation group was that his room, as an assistant, was right next to his employer's, making communication and handling matters convenient.
However, Henry's lack of sleep in the middle of the night was not because the African climate made him uncomfortable, but simply to write the visitation materials.
Do not think that for a United Nations event like this, Audrey He Ben only needs to go out, find a spot, pose for a few photos, and that would suffice.
At every location, visitation records must be made, with photos serving as evidence; when the entire event concludes, a visitation report must be submitted.
This report, besides explaining the situation regarding child protection agencies and education in Somalia, serves the more important purpose of attracting participants to contribute generously during fundraising activities.
Originally, these records and reports were written personally by Audrey He Ben, while the photos were provided by the accompanying record-keeping officer of the Children's Fund.
As an assistant, Henry naturally took over this work, writing the draft for Audrey He Ben to revise; this undoubtedly greatly reduced Ms. He Ben's workload, a treatment the previous old assistant, Antong, never had.
And the typewriter Ms. He Ben originally used is now sitting in Henry's room... gathering dust.
Yes, this thing has been left idle by Henry, or rather, not used as frequently.
Mainly considering the elderly lady's presbyopia, a typewriter cannot adjust font size at will like a future computer, so Henry simply wrote by hand.
Not using cursive, nor considering decorative fonts, just regular printed letters, enlarged a few sizes compared to the typewriter's font, so Audrey would not need to wear reading glasses to painfully read the things she typed out herself.
Another reason for writing by hand was that when Henry unleashed his super speed, hand-writing was still faster than using a typewriter.
After all, the time taken for the typewriter's mechanical arms to pop out and reset is fixed; with a Kryptonian's speed fully unleashed, it would only make this poor machine smoke, and the mechanical arms would even fight each other; it is better to write by hand with a pen, just being careful not to poke through the paper.
As for the content, it was even simpler; after seeing the few sample templates Audrey submitted previously, Henry just followed the same template, changed the content, and it was ready.
Regardless, this thing is similar to an official document; if someone plays with flashbacks, insertions, or montage descriptions inside, then plants a few foreshadowings or suspense... who is this trying to drive to death?
Official documents should be like eight-legged essays: simple and clear; seeing which paragraph tells you the theme of that paragraph, rather than making people guess or think, requiring a full reading of the context to understand what this nonsense is actually saying.
For Henry, who experienced exam-oriented education before his transmigration, this was nothing; without even activating his super brain for deep thinking, he could still make up a four, five, or six.
Although Audrey He Ben was not a poor student and actively enriched herself after becoming famous, compared to a young person like Henry who could secretly turn on cheat codes, her sixty-year-old age still left her often unable to cope.
So the benefits of Henry becoming an assistant were quickly noticed by Ms. He Ben; at least she could sleep well every night, provided she could endure this ghostly weather.
Even for the photos used during the visit, Audrey provided the camera, film, and materials and tools for developing photos, leaving it to Henry to fiddle with.
So during the trip, besides providing close assistance with daily affairs, one could see the assistant Mr. running back and forth with a camera around his neck, taking photos for the activities everywhere.
Developing photos at night was even simpler; just set up a space in the room with a light-proof black cloth, no need for red lights, and Henry could perform the photo developing work in the darkness.
Then, during the gaps in the next day's activities, he could discuss the report content with Audrey and select the photos to be used, greatly reducing the time and energy Audrey spent on these trivial matters and lightening her burden.
In short, Henry, who had never done assistant work in two lifetimes, relied on his super brain with its vast knowledge and strong memory, and the spirit of a beast of burden cultivated from the 996 schedule of his previous life, to force himself into becoming a 007 talent.
But he did not feel tired at all; although the master he followed was no longer in her prime, those lively big eyes appeared even more wise than in the past; her voice also had not changed much from the movies, equally pleasant and moving.
Not to mention her considerate mood and words full of the radiance of wisdom.
Before today, Henry always thought "Saint" was just a persona, or even a derogatory term with a meaning opposite to its literal definition.
Those who claim to be Saints are actually hypocrites whose logic cannot be self-consistent, with full of selfishness and calculation behind them.
Once their own logic is used to attack their own words, they can only angrily curse in frustration.
But after truly meeting someone who devoted themselves to public welfare, all past stereotypes were changed; it turns out there really are people who give selflessly.
However, it cannot be denied that Audrey He Ben was already in a state where she had no worries about food or clothing, which is why she had the energy to devote herself to these public welfare causes.
Just like that ancient proverb: "When poor, cultivate oneself alone; when successful, benefit the whole world"; Ms. He Ben clearly reached the realm of the second stage.
Compared to her, who seriously considered the children, felt sad and shed tears when seeing unbearable scenes, and had smiles from the heart when seeing the children's innocent laughter, the rest of the team could be described as a chaotic state of demons and ghosts.
It is said that diplomatic personnel are like half-spies, and public welfare activities under the name of charity are usually not simple behind the scenes.
Henry would not comment much on the accompanying personnel sent by the United Nations; besides assisting Audrey He Ben's visitation schedule, they also had their own missions.
Even the security team introduced by the insurance company to the movie queen who devoted herself to public welfare was not as simple as it appeared on the surface.
The weapons Audrey reluctantly agreed to carry were heavier weapons beyond the imagined weight; light machine guns, grenades, and mines, equipment clearly not belonging to the security field, caught Henry's attention.
However, Henry could not explain what he saw with his X-ray eyes, nor did he want to expose them, because Audrey He Ben's star halo served as a protective umbrella shielding them; once uncovered, who would be hurt was uncertain.
