Chapter 355, Acting like nothing happened (Third Watch)

~7 min read 1,363 words

Seeing him angry for the first time, Ji Mingqian was taken aback for a moment; the person’s porcelain-white cheeks were flushed, presumably because he was angered by Ji Mingqian.

After a long wait without the two of them coming in, Veya came out looking for them, "Asheng, what are you two still doing outside?"

Women’s intuitions are often more delicate than men’s, and her gaze shifting between the two of them, she sensed that something was off and probed, "What’s wrong with you two?"

Did it look like they had been arguing?

"Nothing," Jiang Yisheng reigned in his irritated expression and resumed his usual indifferent smile.

Ji Mingqian met Veya’s gaze and grinned, "Right, we were just discussing a game, and we had some disagreements."

Veya, without overthinking, believed them and turned back to the dining room, "Hurry up and come eat, or the food will get cold."

Ji Mingqian smiled and nodded his head.

During the meal, Jiang Yisheng quietly ate his rice.

Noticing he was only eating white rice, Veya said, "Asheng, eat more vegetables."

"Mom, he loves bitter gourd, move that plate in front of him," Jiang Yisheng looked up and saw the plate of bitter gourd stir-fried with spare ribs closest to him, a hint of mischief flashing in the depths of his eyes.

Hearing this, Veya picked up the plate of bitter gourd stir-fried with spare ribs and placed it in front of Ji Mingqian.

"Mingqian, eat more, don’t be shy, just treat it like you’re at your own home, feel free to eat."

Ji Mingqian’s chopsticks paused, and he shot a murky glance at the person sitting diagonally across from him.

You’re good at this, Jiang Yisheng, daring to play me.

He looked down at the plate of vivid green bitter gourd, feeling a churning in his stomach.

Unable to withstand the warmth and hospitality from Veya and Mrs. Jiang, Ji Mingqian ate more bitter gourd than he ever had in his life.

Soon after finishing his meal, his stomach started to cause trouble, and he couldn’t stop running to the bathroom.

Pushing the restroom door open, Ji Mingqian staggered out, leaning against the wall.

Propped against the wall, Jiang Yisheng saw him come out and asked, lacking confidence, "Are you okay? Do you need a doctor to come take a look?"

He had only meant to tease him a bit, never expecting the consequences to be so severe.

Ji Mingqian sneered, "Do I look okay to you right now?"

Damned bitter gourd, he had never eaten so much bitter gourd in his life.

Feeling partly responsible for his condition, Jiang Yisheng scratched his head and tentatively asked, "Shall I have the doctor come over and prescribe you some medicine?"

"Go where it’s cool and stay there," Ji Mingqian retorted fiercely.

With those words, a wave of nausea surged up again.

He turned and went back into the restroom, the door slamming shut with a "bang."

Jiang Yisheng looked at the closed door, his lips curving into a subdued smile.

Ji Mingqian’s sudden bout of vomiting and diarrhea startled the whole Jiang family; if not for sharing the same meal, they might have suspected that Ji Mingqian had food poisoning.

Seeing Jiang Yisheng walk back in without Ji Mingqian following behind, Veya asked, "Asheng, is Mingqian all right? Did he get an upset stomach?"

"Mom, it’s nothing, he’s just not accustomed to the local conditions. Look, we’re fine even though we ate the same food," Jiang Yisheng consoled.

Jiang Hai put down his phone and said, "I’ve already called the doctor; he should be fine after taking some medicine."

By the time the doctor arrived, Ji Mingqian was nearly spent.

This was the first time in his life he had eaten so much bitter gourd; it was almost the death of him.

The doctor prescribed some medicine for him, and after taking it, Ji Mingqian’s bitter gourd aftermath finally eased a bit.

Jiang Hai took him to rest in the guest room, and as soon as Jiang Hai left, Jiang Yisheng slipped in right behind him.

Just as Ji Mingqian was about to lie down, he saw him come in, nearly getting scared into a heart attack.

He asked with a sour face, "What are you doing in here?"

Jiang Yisheng cleared his throat, "Uh, are you hungry? I can ask the kitchen to prepare some porridge for you."

"It wouldn’t be bitter gourd porridge, would it?" Ji Mingqian said sarcastically.

Knowing he was still angry, Jiang Yisheng didn’t argue with him.

"I’ll go out first, you rest up slowly."

He hobbled out. Once the door closed, Ji Mingqian collapsed onto the bed and soon fell into a deep sleep.

...

Busy with the acquisition of the Li Group, Li Mochan had been spending a lot of time in the study dealing with paperwork.

Ye Jiuliang, as usual, didn’t get out of bed until the sun was well up in the sky and would occasionally go out for a leisurely stroll when he had nothing to do.

When Li Mochan returned from outside, he couldn’t find any trace of her.

"Where did she go?"

He frowned, placed the large box he was carrying on the table, took off his coat, and walked into the bathroom.

Elsewhere.

Ye Jiuliang emerged from a boutique shop for women, holding a garishly pink, large bag in her hand.

Before she even reached her motorcycle, a group of reporters suddenly sprang out from a side alley.

It looked like they had been waiting outside for who knows how long.

Knowing Ye Jiuliang’s temper well, the reporters didn’t dare to crowd her, halting their advance more than a meter away.

This clearly showed the indelible impression Ye Jiuliang had left on the journalists of the capital after the last incident.

"Miss Ye, have you heard about the recent incidents in the Li Family?"

"Miss Ye, did Li Shaohui really die in a plane crash? The rumors say there is fratricide within the Li Family, is that true?"

"Rumor has it that Li Jingjie and the others have gone abroad. Is this an attempt to utterly destroy their rivals, leaving the Fifth Master Li to monopolize the Li Family’s entire fortune?"

The reporters clustered together, jostling and thrusting, bombarding her with questions.

Ye Jiuliang let out a cold laugh, her eyes glinting with a chilling edge, "If they are just rumors, then why bother asking?"

"If you keep standing there in my way, do you believe I could make good on that threat right now?"

At those words, sudden silence fell.

The reporters looked at each other, at a loss for what to do next.

In the next second, they scurried off with their cameras, quick enough to compete in a race.

In less than a minute, not a single reporter was in sight.

Ye Jiuliang sneered, hung the bag on her motorcycle, and stylishly rode away.

When she arrived back at Mo Garden and saw the car parked in the courtyard, she knew Li Mochan was back.

She weighed the bag in her hand and walked in with light steps.

"Li, Mo, Chan..." She stretched the syllables, a hint of laughter in her voice.

Pushing open the bedroom door, she found the man attempting to dress himself.

"Finished with work?" Ye Jiuliang casually set her things on the vanity, stepping over to where he was.

Li Mochan hummed in affirmation and straightened his collar. "Where did you go?"

"I bought something nice for you." Her eyes sparkled with mischief, and she spoke with a cheerful grin.

"Oh?" Li Mochan was puzzled, sensing an inexplicable feeling of foreboding.

Ye Jiuliang grabbed his hand and pulled him towards the vanity.

Noticing the flamboyantly pink bag on the table, Li Mochan raised an eyebrow and pulled her back.

"Little wolf, what strange thing have you bought?"

Just by looking at the color of the bag, he could feel a wave of "malice" coming from it.

"What’s strange about it? Let me show you, you’ll definitely like it." Ye Jiuliang’s smile deepened, her eyes curving into crescents.

Li Mochan caught her outstretched hand again. "Can I refuse?"
