Chapter 387. The scent of Golden Snow Ginseng (second update)

Li Mochan chuckled softly, "What would you buy a camel for?"

"As a means of transportation," Ye Jiuliang replied. "This godforsaken place is so hot, I feel like I’m being boiled alive."

Knowing she always hated the heat, Li Mochan saw that even her short-sleeved shirt was soaked with sweat, and a touch of distress crossed his eyes.

He reached out to brush away the stray hairs sticking to her forehead, "Silly, aren’t you?"

Ye Jiuliang rolled her eyes at him and retorted, "Then you should keep your distance from me, lest you become silly too."

"No problem, maybe two negatives will make a positive," Li Mochan humorously said.

Ye Jiuliang elbowed him lightly, "Nonsense."

By the time they returned to their temporary residence, the sky had already turned pitch black.

Wei Nan’s jaw dropped in shock when he saw Ye Jiuliang.

"Cough cough."

Wei Dong nudged his shoulder, and Wei Nan came back to his senses.

"Madam."

Ye Jiuliang glanced at his pale, greenish lips and raised her eyebrows slightly, "Have you been poisoned?"

Wei Nan nodded reluctantly, "Poison dart."

"Has the poison not been completely cured?" she asked.

Wei Nan nodded again.

Since yesterday, he had been barely suppressing the poison with medicine. The conditions here were limited, and some medicinal herbs were hard to find; he had already asked Wei Xi to send them to him.

Ye Jiuliang walked over and reached out to check his pulse.

A moment later, she withdrew her hand.

Wei Nan’s own medical skills were quite good, and he had managed to control the poison. The problem didn’t seem too serious.

Ye Jiuliang reached out for her backpack, rummaging through an assortment of bottles and jars for medicine.

Luckily, she had done her research on the poison dart from last time and had almost completed the antidote.

She took out a vial, the purple liquid inside looking somewhat sinister, and handed it to Wei Nan, "Here."

Wei Nan, puzzled, asked, "What’s this?"

"An antidote," Ye Jiuliang said.

Wei Nan took it, unscrewed the cap, and sniffed gently. A faint scent of medicine lingered at his nose.

Among them, there was a particularly distinctive scent of one medicinal herb.

What on earth was it?

He closed his eyes, wracking his brains.

Suddenly, a glimmer of realisation flashed through his mind.

It was Golden Snow Ginseng.

Wei Nan’s eyes snapped open, and he looked at Ye Jiuliang with shining eyes, "Have we met before?"

"Are you hitting on me?" Ye Jiuliang teased.

With that, a deathly glare was cast her way.

Wei Nan stepped back hastily, shaking his head.

He felt wronged.

"Madam, last time in the pharmacy, you gave me that half-root of Golden Snow Ginseng," Wei Nan quickly explained, fearing that even a moment’s delay would get him obliterated by his master’s gaze.

Ye Jiuliang didn’t expect Wei Nan to recognize her at this moment; her eyes flickered slightly as she coughed softly.

Feigning confusion, she said, "Did that happen?"

"It definitely did. I couldn’t be mistaken; there’s the scent of Golden Snow Ginseng in this vial," Wei Nan insisted with conviction.

A slight tremor appeared at the corners of Ye Jiuliang’s lips.

This was bad.

She’d forgotten about that.

Scratching her temple with her finger, she said, "It does seem like that happened."

"Madam, so do you have any other identities?" Wei Nan asked curiously.

Ye Jiuliang shrugged, "Just a vagrant with no job to speak of. What identity could I possibly have?"

Touching the indifferent smile on her face, Wei Nan also knew it was no use asking any more questions.

From the corner of his eye, noticing the cold and dark glint in Li Mochan’s eyes, Wei Nan swallowed hard, grabbed Wei Dong’s arm, and asked for his support.

"Master, we’ll go out first, you two chat," he said.

Receiving the look from Wei Nan, Wei Dong quickly helped him leave.

Before leaving, he didn’t forget to close the door behind him.

Under the warm lighting, the man’s gaze suddenly became profound, sending shivers down Ye Jiuliang’s spine.

"I’m going to take a bath first, I’m practically stinking of sweat," Ye Jiuliang said as she took some clean clothes out of her backpack and headed straight for the bathroom.

She had barely taken two steps when the person behind her closed in.

With a forceful grip around her waist, before she could react, her back collided with the man’s solid chest.

"You little wolf, don’t you have anything to explain to me, hmm?" His intoxicating voice fell by her ear, all raspy and full of stars.

Ye Jiuliang’s ears tingled softly. "Explain what? Just went to a pharmacy to buy some herbs, and happened to run into Wei Nan."

"And then?"

"Then he said he had an urgent need for that stalk of Golden Snow Ginseng. There were many people and horses ambushing me halfway, also trying to snatch the ginseng. He promised to help me deal with those people, so I agreed to give him half of the ginseng, fair trade, that’s it," she explained.

Before she could finish speaking, suddenly her earlobe was nibbled.

Ye Jiuliang cast him a scornful glance. "Li Mochan, don’t you have a thing about cleanliness? I’m sweating all over, and you can still bear to do that?"

"I don’t mind," he chuckled deeply.

"Let go, I need to take a bath," Ye Jiuliang said speechlessly. He might not mind, but she minded herself.

She felt disgusting with sweat all over her.

Li Mochan suggested casually, "Together."

"Who wants to be with you, dream on," Ye Jiuliang stepped on the back of his foot. "Besides, this bathroom is so small, it can’t fit two people."

Being near the Desert of Hell, finding a hotel was good enough; naturally, one couldn’t compare it to a five-star hotel in the capital.

"We could squeeze in," Li Mochan said, not giving up.

Without a second thought, Ye Jiuliang bluntly refused, "I find it too cramped; let go immediately."

"Your objection is invalid." Li Mochan played the stubborn card and half-hugged, half-dragged her into the bathroom.

The door closed, and the faint sounds of their playfulness seeped out.

"Li Mochan, you’ve got the water temperature wrong. Are you trying to scald a pig here?"

"..."

"Damn it, Li Mochan, I only have one set of clothes for changing, if you tear my clothes, you’re going to pay for it."

"Be good, you can wear my clothes," he offered.

In the next room.

After swallowing the reagent, Wei Nan’s face regained some of its rosy color, and his lips returned to normal.

"How do you feel?" Wei Dong asked.

Wei Nan put down the water glass. "The poison has been neutralized," he answered.

"Is that half-stalk of Golden Snow Ginseng you told me about last time given to you by the lady?"

Wei Nan nodded. "No wonder I always felt that something was off."

Wei Dong frowned. "Who do you think the lady really is?"

"Who she is I don’t know, but I’m certain her medical skills are excellent, very similar to someone from the legends," Wei Nan mused.

"Who?" Wei Dong asked, his curiosity piqued.

Wei Nan spoke deliberately, "Leng Yi, the Magic Hand."

As the words fell, Wei Dong looked shocked, a touch of confusion apparent in his eyes. "But isn’t Magic Hand Leng Yi a man?"

Legend had it that Magic Hand Leng Yi was a charming and handsome man, whose favorite places were bars and clubs.

"Was the masked man who intruded into Mo Garden a man?" Wei Nan retorted sarcastically.

In the case of Ye Jiuliang, rules meant nothing; the phrase ’marches to the beat of her own drum’ seemed tailor-made for her.

"But if she is Magic Hand Leng Yi, isn’t she too young? She doesn’t seem to fit the profile at all," Wei Dong still couldn’t believe it to be true.

"She may be young, but she is more skilled than us. Do you think there is anything impossible for her? If we were to judge her by common sense, do you think that would still be Ye Jiuliang?" Wei Nan exclaimed.
