Chapter 400, What Are You Hiding (First Update)
After the thrill had passed, Mo Yu couldn’t help but worry, "We must keep this matter from the old master, not a whisper of it can leak out."
"Mo Yu, what boldness you have, who allowed you to tamper with my orders?" A furious voice came from outside the door, filled with displeasure.
Struck as by lightning, a rare look of panic crossed Mo Yu’s face.
Damn it.
Aqiao saw the figure appearing at the door, a hint of fear flashing in her eyes, and she moved to stand behind Mo Yu.
"Madam, what should we do?" she asked quietly.
The old master seldom came here, and it was unexpected that he would catch them red-handed today.
Mo Yu furrowed her brows, but before she could think further, the elder had already approached her.
An icy breath hit her face, carrying a tidal wave of anger.
Mo Yu steadied her heart and, with her head slightly lowered, called out respectfully, "Father."
The elder, wearing a black traditional Chinese robe with his hands clasped behind him, said with a stern face, "Mo Yu, it seems that your wings are fully grown, and you no longer see me, your father, as an authority."
"Your daughter wouldn’t dare," Mo Yu lifted her head, hastening to explain.
The old master had a cold face and, with the back of his hand, slapped her across the face.
"Slap—"
The force of the palm was fierce, startling even Aqiao.
Knowing the old master’s temper, she kept her head down, silent, not daring to say more.
Speaking at this moment was surely asking for a beating.
The slap was not light; Mo Yu’s face instantly swelled, reddened with the distinct print of fingers, looking fierce.
The burning pain from her cheek spread, Mo Yu kept her head down, not daring to show the slightest dissatisfaction.
"Father, I did not think things through on this matter, I acted of my own accord, I just hate Ye Jiuliang too much, please forgive me this once, I won’t dare again," she pleaded.
The old master glanced at her and snorted coldly, "You know well that Ye Jiuliang is still of use to me, and yet you dared to tamper with my orders. Will you be replacing my men with your own in a few days?"
At his words, Mo Yu’s face went ashen and she fell to her knees with a "thud," placing her hands on her knees, her tone abject, "Your daughter wouldn’t dare."
"Mo Yu, I could overlook your previous attempts on Ye Jiuliang, but as he is still useful to me now, you’d better restrain yourself and stop devising petty schemes behind my back, otherwise, I will not be lenient," the old master warned from his superior stance, his eyes dark and forbidding.
"Furthermore, as for Ji Mingqian and the other two, don’t touch them either, for the time being. Once the time is right, and I have what I want, you can do as you wish with them, and I won’t object," he added.
"Yes," Mo Yu nodded, her posture the epitome of subservience.
"Send Mo Chen over to me as quickly as possible. If you’re incapable of disciplining your son, then don’t blame me for being heartless," the old master shifted the topic, his words sending a chill down Mo Yu’s spine.
"I will have someone send Mo Chen tomorrow. He is headstrong, and I hope you can be more lenient with him," out of fear that her son might inadvertently provoke the old master, Mo Yu spoke well of him in advance.
The old master was silent, only casting a sideward glance at her.
After a long time, he spoke in a hoarse voice, "You should stay quietly at home for a while and stop interfering with my plans. If you disrupt them again, do not blame me for being heartless."
Mo Yu nodded.
After seeing off the old master, when Aqiao returned to the living room, she found Mo Yu sitting collapsed on the floor and rushed to help her up.
"Madam, are you all right?"
Mo Yu’s face was expressionless, her eyes held a grim and ruthless gleam.
"Send someone to find out, make absolutely sure whether that damned girl Ye Jiuliang is dead or not."
"But, as for the old master..." Still shaken by the old master’s recent outburst of anger, Aqiao looked troubled.
Mo Yu shot her a glance, "Be careful, Father won’t find out."
Aqiao bowed respectfully, "Yes."
...
At dawn, the pale blue sky held a few lingering stars unwilling to depart.
The night had been too cold, and Ye Jiuliang, sleeping into the wee hours, was nearly awakened by the freeze.
She hadn’t slept well, and naturally, Li Mochan hadn’t either.
"Mohan, put on your jacket." Unable to sleep, Ye Jiuliang simply stayed awake, her concern showing when she touched his icy hand.
He gave her his coat, and he himself was shivering with cold.
Li Mochan pressed her hand down, preventing her from removing the coat, "I’m not cold."
His low voice was so hoarse it hardly sounded human, and Ye Jiuliang sensed something was wrong and raised her hand to his forehead.
Li Mochan leaned back to avoid her hand.
Ye Jiuliang narrowed her eyes and grabbed his collar, "What are you dodging?"
"Don’t move around, or you’ll tear the wound," Li Mochan cleared his throat, forcing himself to seem energetic.
Ye Jiuliang looked up at him, the man’s handsome face unable to hide its pallor, his lips pale as if touched by water.
She tightened her grip on his collar, not allowing him to dodge.
"Stay put."
Li Mochan’s eyes flickered, unable to escape anyway.
The cool touch of her hand met his forehead, the contact painfully hot.
He had a fever.
Ye Jiuliang frowned, withdrew her hand, and quickly pulled off her wristwatch, twisted the secret clasp, and a light red pill fell out.
As he witnessed her deft move, Li Mochan raised an eyebrow, astonishment sparkling in his eyes.
His little rascal turned out to be a veritable treasure trove.
"Little devil, you..."
"Don’t talk." Ye Jiuliang roughly pushed the pill into his mouth, her face unusually serious.
Li Mochan swallowed the pill, his gaze never leaving the person in his arms.
Seeing her press her lips together silently, he reached out and poked her cheek, "Smile for me."
Ye Jiuliang glared at him, "I can’t smile."
He was sick and still wouldn’t tell her, definitely asking for trouble.
She lifted her hand, pulled the coat off her shoulder, and pushed it back toward him, "Put it on."
Seeing that she was a bit annoyed, Li Mochan took the coat, put it on, and then opened it to wrap her in his embrace.
He lowered his head slightly, resting his chin on her uninjured shoulder, "Little devil, are you angry?"
Ye Jiuliang turned her head away, ignoring him.
Li Mochan’s eyes shifted, his shoulders slumping as he purposely elongated his mellow voice, "My head hurts, I feel awful."
Ye Jiuliang cast him a bland glance, unswayed by his act.
"Little devil, I’m in pain," Li Mochan rubbed his cheek against hers, his voice lowered to a whisper.
Ye Jiuliang huffed lightly, "I can’t be bothered with you."
"Really not going to bother with me, huh?" Li Mochan pulled a smile, and turned his head to kiss her fair cheek.
Ye Jiuliang elbowed him gently, her serious expression breaking at last.
"Do you think just because I’m easy to bully?"
At her words, a deeper smile played around Li Mochan’s eyes and mouth.
"Little devil, do you have a misunderstanding about the phrase ’easy to bully’?"
His little wolf cub must be the least easy to bully in the world.
Thinking to bully her? Tough luck.
Perceiving the teasing tone in his words, Ye Jiuliang’s face darkened, "Li Mochan, you..."
Before she could finish, an excited voice came from above.
"Master."
A familiar voice; it was Wei Xi’s voice.
Ye Jiuliang looked up to see the dark airplane slowly descending.
