Chapter 402, Don’t chase me, don’t chase me (Third watch)
That night, the drizzle continued on without respite.
Because of a hotpot meal, Jiang Yisheng had taken medicine for two days and finally got rid of the rash he was allergic to.
These days, Ji Mingqian had been staying at Mo Garden, in the same guest room he occupied during his last visit.
Neither of them knew how to cook, so they both ordered takeout.
After dealing with the documents sent by Chu Chen, Ji Mingqian shut down his computer. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a package on the table and reached for it.
A mischievous smile played on his lips as he saw the contents labeled on the package.
He had almost forgotten about this thing.
Unwrapping the package, under the lamp light, two toy rats lay motionless inside.
If one took a close look, they were almost deceivingly realistic.
The craftsmanship was excellent, lifelike, and they could easily scare someone at night.
Ji Mingqian took out the remote control and the toy rats, leaving the room with light steps.
There was no one in the living room, and the TV was off as well.
After searching the ground floor without finding Jiang Yisheng, he headed upstairs, where the corridor was eerily quiet with the wall lamps all lit.
Reaching Jiang Yisheng’s bedroom, Ji Mingqian found the door ajar and gently pushed it open a crack.
Peering inside, he still couldn’t spot Jiang Yisheng.
Strange, the room’s lights were on; where had the guy run off to?
Ji Mingqian frowned, about to turn away, when he suddenly heard the sound of running water from inside and paused.
He pushed the door open further and tiptoed into the room.
As expected, the light in the bathroom was on, and the door was closed.
Ji Mingqian surveyed the room, placed the toy rats on the floor, and then hid outside the French windows, using the curtains for cover.
Before hiding, he did not forget to turn off the room’s lights.
Soon, the water noise from the bathroom abruptly ceased.
Opening the door, Jiang Yisheng stepped out with a towel drying his hair, walking barefoot.
The bedroom was in pitch darkness, lit only by the dim light spilling in from the hallway.
Jiang Yisheng paused in his hair-drying, a hint of confusion appearing in his eyes.
He had clearly turned on the lights. Could they be broken?
Jiang Yisheng took a step when he felt something collide with his ankle.
He looked down, his gaze perplexed as he inspected the area around his feet.
In that moment, his bright green eyes clouded with a flicker of terror.
Rats, rats...
Jiang Yisheng’s face drained of color as he retreated step by step.
But as he ran, the rats chased after him, skittering around his feet.
"Don’t chase me, don’t chase me..."
In a fluster, Jiang Yisheng used his towel to swat at the rats, trying to drive them away.
"Get away, all of you get away..."
In his panic, he slipped, and lost his balance, falling backward.
His forehead struck the door frame, and Jiang Yisheng inhaled sharply in pain.
It hurt.
Outside the French windows, Ji Mingqian saw the prank go too far and was startled, afraid to continue playing.
Turning on the lights, he rushed over.
He knelt down, helping him up with an anxious look, "Where did you fall?"
Jiang Yisheng, holding his forehead, looked perplexedly at the person who had suddenly appeared, "What are you doing in my room?"
"Er, I..." Ji Mingqian let out a nervous chuckle, stumbling over his words.
This was bad.
Jiang Yisheng glanced at him, then caught sight of the remote on the floor and the motionless rats, realization dawning on him.
His delicate good looks suddenly shaded with indignation, Jiang Yisheng shook off his hand, his normally gentle voice now devoid of any warmth.
"Ji Mingqian, could you explain to me what these things on the floor are?"
So it was him playing a trick on him, scaring him in the middle of the night on purpose.
