Chapter 444: The batch of goods was hijacked by Group K (first update)
Ji Mingqian cursed under his breath, Mo Lingling was such a pig-headed fool, If this affair had anything to do with her, he’d have no choice but to throw her into the sea to feed the fish.
He regretted having repeatedly given her chances in the past for the sake of his master’s reputation.
Ye Jiuliang leaned backward, resting against the back of the chair.
She raised her hand and stroked her chin, lost in thought.
The people who took Mo Lingling away, and now this destruction of the island, what exactly is the person lurking in the shadows calculating?
First, there was her assassination attempt, followed by Aqian, then the mysterious iron box, and the matters of the Desert of Hell.
Now, with this incident, there seemed to be no connection, but she always felt there was a dark hand behind her, pushing all these events forward.
Ye Jiuliang spoke softly, "Aqian, is there a way to open that iron box?"
"The lock of the iron box has been forcibly tampered with too many times and has jammed, so there’s currently no way to open it," Ji Mingqian informed her, even though he didn’t know why she suddenly asked.
More importantly, they had no idea what was inside the iron box; if they melted it and the contents were ruined, opening it would be pointless.
"Are you suspecting that the person who set the island ablaze is the same one who lured us to find the iron box?"
Ye Jiuliang hummed softly in agreement, "We can’t rule out that possibility."
"So, by your theory," he asked, "what do you think is the true intention of the person behind all these events?"
If they intended to take over the K organization and the Dark Hall, merely looking at the many traps they had set, it wasn’t for something as simple as that.
Honestly, I feel that the person behind all this isn’t targeting any one of us specifically, or, to put it differently, he’s targeting all four of us," she revealed, sensing as much from the assassination attempts on her and Aqian.
"What do you mean?" Ji Mingqian furrowed his brow.
Ye Jiuliang shook her head, "It’s just a guess; after all, Achen and Anuo haven’t encountered the same situation as us. Maybe we can use the iron box to draw them out."
Those people went through so much trouble to make them find the iron box because they wanted to use them to open it.
If that was the case, why not use the iron box to draw them out in turn?
Ji Mingqian nodded, catching her drift, "I’ll find a way to open the iron box as soon as possible."
"We don’t necessarily have to open it," Ye Jiuliang said with a cold smile.
Ji Mingqian’s mind clicked, and he tasted the implication in her words, "You mean to create a fake one?"
Ye Jiuliang arched an eyebrow, which served as confirmation.
Ji Mingqian smiled slightly, "That’s indeed a good idea."
"Check on Mo Lingling’s whereabouts again and see if there are any clues. I’m going outside for some fresh air."
With that, Ye Jiuliang stood up and walked out.
...
The window was flung open, letting in the cold wind, which whisked away the faint scent of tobacco.
Suddenly, a hearty laugh filled the private room.
"Ha ha ha."
The old man crushed his cigarette butt in the ashtray and stroked his grizzled beard.
His tawny eyes admired the young man opposite him, not hiding his admiration.
"Young Master Li truly is a rare talent among the younger generation; using your phrase, it’s like the waves of the Yangtze River pushing forward one after another."
The master of the Dark Hall indeed lived up to his reputation, swift and ruthless in his methods, leaving no room for others to dispute.
Li Mochan maintained a detached expression, meeting the old man’s gaze with calm, steady eyes.
Suddenly, Wei Bei hurried in, his steps brisk and his expression slightly grave.
Seeing that Matt was still there, Wei Bei gave a slight nod, then bent down and whispered a few words into Li Mochan’s ear.
Across from him, Matt didn’t let his gaze wander, even if he was curious, he kept it to himself.
Curiosity killed the cat; it was best for him to act as if he were invisible if it wasn’t his business to hear.
Wei Bei must have said something, as Li Mochan’s dark eyes narrowed slightly, and a chilling and intimidating aura surrounded him for a fleeting moment.
Matt, sitting opposite him, felt it most acutely. That instant was like falling into an ice cave, cold enough to intimidate.
Matt was briefly dazed, then squeezed out a smile and said, "The contract has already been signed, if Home Master Li has pressing matters, he is welcome to leave first."
Li Mochan gave a slight nod, stood up his tall frame, and a sense of oppression followed.
Matt’s breathing slowed by a beat, his heart involuntarily filled with curiosity about what could have made Li Mochan so angry.
"Master Rete, we will take our leave first. If you have any questions regarding the contract, you can contact me."
Wei Bei made a polite remark, collected the documents from the table, and then followed Li Mochan out of the room.
Back at the hotel they were staying in, Wei Xi had already arrived and was waiting.
"Master," Wei Xi sprang up from the sofa when he saw Li Mochan push the door and enter.
Li Mochan asked directly, his voice icy, "Did you find out everything?"
Wei Xi replied, "I’ve confirmed it, our shipment indeed was hijacked by the K organization."
He had been investigating this matter all along, and after many twists and turns, it turned out to be the work of the K organization, which was truly despicable.
Wei Bei furrowed his brow, an angry look on his face, "The K organization has hidden itself well; daring to rob goods from our Dark Hall, this score can’t be easily settled."
That shipment had cost the Dark Hall a substantial sum of money, but more importantly, it had damaged their reputation. Whatever the K organization had taken, they had to regurgitate.
Wei Xi fell silent and looked up at Li Mochan, waiting for his decision.
Li Mochan took long strides to the floor-to-ceiling window and paused in his steps.
The dark coldness in his eyes reflected against the glass window, the warm halo of the sun blurring the emotions in his eyes.
Gazing at the distant hustle and bustle, Li Mochan parted his lips and spoke with a flat, frost-laden voice.
"Find out the K organization’s strongholds. Wei Bei, arrange for two teams to come over."
Wei Bei and Wei Xi exchanged looks and spoke in unison.
"Yes."
If the K organization dared to bully their Dark Hall, there was nothing left for them to tolerate.

After taking a shower and coming downstairs, Gu Xinuo couldn’t stop sneezing, her head feeling foggy and heavy.
She thought she probably caught a bit of a cold after getting caught in the rain all night.
Seeing the kitchen light on, she dragged her feet over.
As she approached, the rich scent of ginger filled her nostrils.
It was a familiar smell; she didn’t know how many times she had smelt it since she was a child.
Hearing her footsteps, Chu Chen turned around and waved her over, "Come here and drink the ginger tea."
Gu Xinuo walked up to him and saw the bowl he was passing her, the steaming ginger tea almost spilling over.
Her pale little face scrunched up, she complained, "This much, can it be a little less?"
Chu Chen refused outright, bringing the bowl to her lips, "No, you’ve been sneezing non-stop, it’s not good if your cold gets worse."
Gu Xinuo grimaced, pinched her nose, and downed the ginger tea in one gulp.
The spiciness spread through her throat, and Gu Xinuo licked her lips with tightly knit brows.
So hard to swallow.
