Chapter 535, The rules should be according to hers (Second update)
His face changed, and he withdrew his gaze, "Grandma Jiang, please sit here for a while, I’ll go get you a glass of hot water."
Without waiting for the elderly Madame Jiang’s response, he dashed away quickly.
Through the crowded throng, around the bend, Mo Chen saw the woman standing opposite him and hurriedly came to a halt.
"Huh."
Mo Su’s icy gaze shot towards him, a disdainful cold chuckle slipping from her throat.
"It seems you’re in luck, finding someone to take you in."
He had heard such sarcastic taunts more than once or twice, and Mo Chen chose to pretend he hadn’t heard.
"Why are you here?"
Master Extinction certainly wasn’t the type to go shopping at the supermarket; her presence here was definitely no coincidence.
Facing his wary eyes, Mo Su sneered.
He did guard pretty tight against outsiders.
The backstabbing jerk.
"Why can’t I be here? Why are you so nervous, afraid I’ll do something to that old hag?"
"What exactly do you want to do?" Mo Chen’s heart tightened.
With a contemptuous sneer, Mo Su said, "Whatever I want to do, do you think you can stop me?"
Annoyance flashed across Mo Chen’s face, his shoulder suddenly felt heavy.
He turned his head, and the unfamiliar face of a man came into view.
"The old lady is still waiting over there for you. Leave this to me; you go back first." Xue Wu withdrew his hand, saying with a smile.
Mo Chen looked at him suspiciously, "Who are you?"
Xue Wu replied, "An underling of Miss Ye."
Hearing this, joy spread across Mo Chen’s face—it was Sister Jiuliang.
"Go quickly, don’t let the old lady get anxious." Xue Wu reminded him.
Mo Chen nodded, glanced at Mo Su once more, and then stepped away.
A surprise interloper appearing on the way, Mo Su’s expression darkened slightly.
"Miss Mo, I presume?" Xue Wu stepped forward, smiling, "Instead of reviewing documents at the company, what brings you the leisure to come shopping at the mall?"
Mo Su’s face turned cold, her eyes smoldering with indignation, "Ye Jiuliang leaves the capital, but the dogs she left behind sure are loyal."
The words she spoke, Xue Wu treated them as mere flatulence, unruffled, "Miss Mo, Master Jiu asked me to relay a message to you: the game was started by you, but the rules follow hers. If you want to play, seek her, but if your claws stretch too long, she’ll be sure to pay you a personal visit one of these days."
Mo Su gave him a cold sideways glance and turned to leave.
Thinking she could set the rules, Ye Jiuliang, you overestimate yourself.
Xue Wu watched her proud retreating figure, the smile on his face completely vanishing.
She was simply incomparable to his Master Jiu.
Back in the car, Mo Su slammed the car door fiercely.
"Bang—"
Seated in the driver’s seat, Mengzhu was startled, then cautiously asked, "Miss, what happened?"
Had she had another quarrel with the young master?
Suppressing the rage in her chest, Mo Su asked in a low voice, "How is the situation with Mo Lingling?"
"Mo Lingling has been taken away by Chu Chen’s people," Mengzhu said.
"Tell Mo Lingling to execute the plan as soon as possible."
The game started at her behest, the rules were not for Ye Jiuliang to decide, and the final victor could only be her, Mo Su.
"Yes." Mengzhu started the car and drove away.
Mo Su looked thoughtfully at the scenery passing outside the car window.
Once she dealt with Gu Xinuo and Chu Chen, that would leave only Ji Mingqian.
What was Ji Mingqian’s Achilles’ heel?
...
Dusk fell, and the neon lights came on.
The rain had stopped, leaving the streets slightly deserted.
After dinner, Feng Yi had company matters to attend to, so he didn’t linger and left first.
"No idea where Aqian that guy went—he’s been MIA all afternoon," Gu Xinuo said grumpily as she came back from a phone call without having seen Ji Mingqian.
Jiang Yisheng tapped the tablet with a bit more force, his eyes misting over.
"Are you going back tonight?" Ye Jiuliang asked as he put on his jacket.
Gu Xinuo hummed in acknowledgment, "Achen called, there’s still work to be done at the headquarters."
"Is it work to be done, or is he afraid of sleeping alone?" Ye Jiuliang teased unabashedly.
Gu Xinuo’s face turned red, "Ye Jiuliang, can you be serious for once?"
In terms of thick-faced, she admitted defeat.
Ye Jiuliang hooked her neck with an arm and smiled, "I’m very serious. If you don’t believe me, remember to ask Achen when you get back, see if I’m right."
With a shrug to shake off her hand, knowing she couldn’t outsmart Gu Xinuo in banter, she changed the subject, "I’m heading off, hurry up and have your dinner."
With that, the person who had been missing all afternoon suddenly returned.
Gu Xinuo picked up her backpack, "Where did you go?"
"Just wandering around," Ji Mingqian glanced at the person sitting on the sofa, nonchalantly.
"I’m heading back, want to join me?"
Ji Mingqian’s gaze subtly swept over the person playing with the tablet, and he felt a lump in his heart.
What’s so interesting about that damn tablet.
Feng Yi shows up and he’s all smiles, but sees him and he’s just had a sullen face, really freaking frustrating.
He blurted out, "Let’s go."
Gu Xinuo said, "Yisheng, we’re leaving, you take care of your injury."
Jiang Yisheng looked up, flashing a bright smile, "Be careful on the road."
Ji Mingqian looked over, unexpectedly meeting his gaze.
The clear green eyes brimmed with laughter, vaguely concealing several unfathomable emotions.
Just as he was about to probe further, that person shifted his gaze away.
Ji Mingqian frowned slightly, his gaze drifting downward to see the bandaged arm, and the gloom in his heart unconsciously dispersed.
"Aqian, let’s go," Gu Xinuo’s urging voice came from outside the door.
Ji Mingqian withdrew his gaze and turned to walk out.
"Asheng, what do you feel like eating? We can pick some up for you later," remembering Jiang Yisheng didn’t eat much for dinner, Ye Jiuliang asked.
After thinking for a moment, Jiang Yisheng spoke softly, "If you see candied hawthorns, get me one. If not, forget about it."
Ji Mingqian’s dark eyes widened slightly and his expression turned bizarre.
"Candied hawthorns?" Ye Jiuliang paused, then agreed.
Could it be that the medicine pills were too bitter, so he wanted something sweet?
Without overthinking it, Ye Jiuliang dragged Li Mochan out with him.
As the door closed, an instant silence descended.
Jiang Yisheng put down the tablet, a faint dull pain spreading across his chest.
When did they start, to come back full circle?
...
The post-rain sky was gray and overcast, with faint stars flickering on and off.
Getting out of the car, Ji Mingqian followed alongside Gu Xinuo, absent-minded, the bottle of medicine in his backpack feeling heavy on his shoulder.
So lost in thought, he didn’t even hear Gu Xinuo talking to him.
Helplessly, Gu Xinuo raised her voice, "Ji Mingqian."
Ji Mingqian snapped back to reality, his gaze questioningly on her, "What’s up?"
"What are you zoning out about?" Gu Xinuo gave him a look of exasperation.
"Boarding time is near, why are you daydreaming?"
Hiding the unease in his eyes, Ji Mingqian lied without blushing, "I’ve got something to take care of, you go ahead."
