Chapter 539, Threw it in the trash can (Third watch)
Warm air snuck into his ears, and Li Mochan’s deep eyes slightly condensed as a drunken chuckle spilled from his throat.
"Hehe."
"Which part is broken, let me have a look." His deep voice lowered, sounding quite ear-grasping.
Ye Jiuliang glared at him, placed a hand on the mischievous hand at her waist, and with some effort, pulled it away.
"I barely slept last night, can’t you let me get some good sleep, huh?"
Seeing the faint shadows beneath her eyelids, the deep color in Li Mochan’s eyes gradually lightened.
He flipped over and stretched out his arm to embrace her, "Sleep."
Ye Jiuliang’s lips slightly curled, and she lowered her head into his chest.
She was truly exhausted and soon fell asleep.
...
Night receded, and the grayish blue sky gradually brightened.
Morning light lazily streamed through the window.
The quiet hospital room was broken by a dull sound.
"Thump—"
The man asleep on the sofa was startled awake, and Ji Mingqian got up and walked to the bathroom.
He yawned and raised his hand to knock on the door.
Unexpectedly, the door wasn’t latched and swung open with his knock.
Inside, Jiang Yisheng was bent over, one hand clutching his knee, with toothpaste and a rinsing cup fallen at his feet.
Seeing his pained expression, Ji Mingqian instantly sobered up.
He stepped forward, reaching out to support him, "What happened?"
"Bumped my knee," Jiang Yisheng said in a muffled voice.
"Sorry, I woke you up," he added.
Ji Mingqian picked up the items from the floor, speaking in an exasperated tone, "I really don’t know what to say about you anymore, always falling or bumping into things."
After putting things back, he looked at him sideways, "Have you finished your morning routine?"
Jiang Yisheng shook his head, taking the towel, "You go out first, I’ll wash my face."
Ji Mingqian gave him a sidelong glance and then snatched the towel from his hand, turning on the faucet to rinse it.
As he wrung out the towel, he continued to nag, "Jiang Yisheng, only I would be here to wring a towel for you, yet you say I have a bad temper. Feel your conscience, do you think that’s fair?"
Jiang Yisheng didn’t respond, merely took the towel handed to him and wiped his face.
Suddenly, there was a knock from outside.
"Knock knock knock—"
"Yisheng, are you up yet?" Wen Rang’s voice came from outside.
Ji Mingqian finished wringing the towel, gave it a shake, and then hung it back in place.
Jiang Yisheng, leaning on the wall, slowly shuffled out, with Ji Mingqian following behind, reaching out to support his arm helplessly.
"Yisheng, I brought you breakfast. Take a look, what would you like to eat?" Wen Rang opened the bag and laid out all the takeout breakfasts.
Jiang Yisheng responded affirmatively, and as Wen Rang turned his head to look, his gaze landed on the person standing beside Jiang Yisheng, and his expression suddenly became odd.
What was the famous actor Ji doing here?
Looking at his disheveled appearance, it seemed he had stayed the night.
"Do I look that terrible?" Ji Mingqian teased.
Wen Rang snapped back to reality and quickly shook his head, "No."
Having helped Jiang Yisheng sit down, Ji Mingqian ran a hand through his hair and turned to head back to the bathroom.
Once the bathroom door had closed, Wen Rang immediately engaged in gossip.
His eyes swept over the blanket on the sofa, "Yisheng, was the famous actor Ji here last night?"
Jiang Yisheng took a few sips of water from his cup, "Mhm."
"I thought your relationship with the famous actor Ji was just average, but it turns out you’re quite close, him taking care of you here," Wen Rang realized, commenting with admiration.
Jiang Yisheng remained silent, his gaze shifting to the coat and backpack beside him.
He’ll probably leave after breakfast, right?
Lost in thought, Ji Mingqian emerged from the bathroom.
"Mingqian, what would you like to eat? I’ll go buy it for you," Wen Rang offered.
Ji Mingqian shook his head, "No need to trouble yourself, I’ll just eat these."
As he spoke, he casually grabbed a bowl of spare rib porridge.
Before he even lifted the lid, Jiang Yisheng reminded him, "That bowl has bitter melon in it."
Upon hearing the words "bitter melon," Ji Mingqian didn’t hesitate to put it down and switched to a bowl of seafood porridge instead.
With only two bowls of porridge, the seafood porridge was taken by him, leaving Jiang Yisheng with the bitter melon one.
Luckily, he didn’t dislike bitter melon.
On the side, Wen Rang had an odd expression on his face.
What was up with this weird understanding between them?
"When are you leaving?" after some thought, Jiang Yisheng asked gently.
Ji Mingqian’s eyelids lifted as he glanced at him, "Are you trying to rush me out?"
Knowing he was saying this on purpose, Jiang Yisheng rolled his eyes at him.
Ji Mingqian chuckled softly, "I’ll go after breakfast."
Otherwise, he’d probably end up being laughed at by Ajiu until his face turned yellow.
Jiang Yisheng made an "oh" sound and fell silent again.
"When are you getting discharged?" Not liking the dreadful silence, Ji Mingqian asked.
Jiang Yisheng, "Tomorrow."
"Heading back to the capital?"
"Yeah."
"I’ll come find you in the capital when I’m free, then."
Jiang Yisheng hummed faintly in response.
Wen Rang felt like he was becoming invisible, feeling completely unable to join in their conversation.
Suddenly remembering something, Wen Rang looked at Jiang Yisheng, "Yisheng, your wristwatch was found by someone at the company; I had someone put it back in your recording studio."
Wristwatch?
Ji Mingqian subconsciously looked at the watch on his own wrist, then towards Jiang Yisheng’s.
There was nothing there, completely empty.
He remembered that after the endorsement shoot, there was a wristwatch on his hand just like his own.
He had even seen it on him in the private room that time.
Could it be...
Avoiding his gaze, Jiang Yisheng felt somewhat guilty and responded perfunctorily with a hum.
But Wen Rang was oblivious to the awkward mood and continued talking about the wristwatch.
"We were lucky this time, to find it in the trash can. If the janitor had been a bit less careful, your wristwatch would probably have ended up in the landfill."
That’s terrible.
Jiang Yisheng groaned inwardly, not daring to look into the eyes of the person across from him.
"Indeed, lucky to get it back from the trash can," Ji Mingqian ground his back teeth, his tone dark and ominous.
He could guess without much thought that it must have been Jiang Yisheng who threw the watch into the trash can.
Wen Rang chuckled, "Yeah, I think so too."
Jiang Yisheng buried his head in eating his porridge, determined not to join this topic.
After finishing breakfast, fearful that Ye Jiuliang might come over at any moment, Ji Mingqian didn’t dare to linger.
He grabbed his coat to put on, snatched his backpack, and was ready to leave.
Glancing at the person sitting on the sofa, Ji Mingqian spoke with a meaningful tone, "Jiang Yisheng, make sure you don’t end up in a trash can the next time we meet."
Jiang Yisheng touched his nose, feeling somewhat guilty.
"Here, take these and eat your medicine quickly," Ji Mingqian fished out two candies from his pocket and tossed them over.
The elegantly wrapped candies landed on his lap, Jiang Yisheng picked them up, lifted his head, and Ji Mingqian was already at the door.
Jiang Yisheng clenched the candies in his palm, a faint smile forming on his lips.
Downstairs, Li Mochan parked the car and got out first.
After closing the car door, just as he was about to walk around to the other side, out of the corner of his eye, he inadvertently caught sight of a figure getting into a taxi on the street.
A misty blue coat, black backpack, not a single item missing from the complete set of mask and hat.
Without sunglasses, the top half of the face entered Li Mochan’s line of sight.
It was Ji Mingqian.
Li Mochan raised his eyebrows, a glint of intrigue flashing in his eyes.
