Chapter 538, are you thinking of marrying another one? (second update)
Ji Mingqian’s face showed a trace of embarrassment as he dodged the question, "I have some things to take care of and will return in a couple of days."
Jiang Yisheng glanced at him suspiciously. If he had things to deal with, how did he have time to buy him candied hawthorns?
"What are you looking at?" Ji Mingqian snapped, rattled by his stare.
"Eat your candied hawthorn."
Jiang Yisheng shuffled his feet, limping toward the sofa.
In the end, Ji Mingqian couldn’t stand aside and reached out to support him.
This time, Jiang Yisheng didn’t resist and let him help.
After helping him sit on the sofa, Ji Mingqian finally took a seat himself.
Jiang Yisheng looked at the candied hawthorns in the paper bag and hesitated before he softly called out, "Ji Mingqian."
"Hmm?" Ji Mingqian, drinking water, hummed in response.
"Did I say something when I was drunk that day?"
If it wasn’t because he had said something, why did he leave Mo Garden so abruptly, and the next time they met, why did he give him the cold shoulder? The only explanation was that he must have said something when he was drunk that had offended him.
At that, Ji Mingqian nearly sprayed out the water in his mouth.
"Cough cough cough—"
He put down the cup, unable to stop coughing.
Could this guy’s thought process not jump so fast?
His overreaction attracted a puzzled look from Jiang Yisheng.
Did he really say something hurtful?
After catching his breath, Ji Mingqian steadied his expression, "No."
Jiang Yisheng stared at him stubbornly, obviously not believing him.
"I said no, didn’t you want to eat your candied hawthorn? Hurry up and eat." Ji Mingqian urged, not wanting to continue the topic.
Jiang Yisheng’s eyes drooped slightly, and he stopped asking.
"It’s getting late; you should head back soon."
"Who says I’m going back." Ji Mingqian picked up the cup and continued to drink water.
Jiang Yisheng looked wooden, "You’re not going back?"
"I’m leaving tomorrow; I’ll just make do with this sofa for the night," he said as if suddenly remembering something, he reached for his backpack.
Unzipping it, he took out a small box and handed it to Jiang Yisheng, "Take this, it’s for you."
"What is this?"
"I snatched these from Ajiu’s pharmacy, you better not blab about it, or she’ll kill me," Ji Mingqian warned.
"These are good medicines, they work wonders for healing wounds."
Jiang Yisheng’s eyes curved up, his beautiful green eyes filled with mirth, "You’re afraid she’ll beat you, yet you still steal them?"
The long-missed smile dazzled Ji Mingqian’s eyes, and after a brief daze, he said annoyedly, "Can you have a conscience? The medicines are for you; not only do you not say thank you, but you also revel in my misfortune here."
Jiang Yisheng reigned in his smile, handing him a stick of candied hawthorn, "Here, a thank you gift."
The sweet aroma of the candied hawthorn lingered at his nose, Ji Mingqian glanced at him sideways, "Using my own thing as a thank you gift, could your skin be any thicker?"
"Anyway, it’s not as thick as yours."
Jiang Yisheng muttered under his breath, but Ji Mingqian still heard him.
Cold fingertips pinched his cheek, Ji Mingqian said with a smile that was not quite a smile, "Jiang Yisheng, who did you say has thick skin?"
He must have done many bad things in his past life, otherwise how could he have met his nemesis in him.
Jiang Yisheng bared his teeth, set down the candied hawthorn, and freed his hands to pry off Ji Mingqian’s fingers, "Let go, stop pinching my face."
"Who has thick skin?" Ji Mingqian persisted, refusing to let go, though he wasn’t really exerting any force.
"Your skin is thick, Ji Mingqian’s skin is thicker than a city wall," Jiang Yisheng yelled, deliberately contradicting him.
Ji Mingqian saw the bruises on his hand and finally let go.
He couldn’t help but mutter, "How did you fall to bruise even the back of your hand?"
"I slipped and fell, how else?" Jiang Yisheng said nonchalantly, as if the person with all the injuries wasn’t him.
He took the paper bag and began nibbling on a candied hawthorn stick.
Sour and sweet, not as cloyingly sweet as sugar-fried hawthorn, very much like the one he bought for her that time.
Ji Mingqian propped his head up with one hand, watching the person next to him eating the candied hawthorn, a tenderness he himself hadn’t noticed flickered in the depths of his eyes.
Such a grown man still eating candied hawthorn, childish.
...
In her sleep, Ye Jiuliang always felt a burning gaze on her, forcing her to wake up.
She opened her eyes to find the man’s handsome face very close to hers.
His calm and still eyes were focused on her belly with an intensity that seemed as if he could see flowers bloom out of it the next second.
Ye Jiuliang’s lips quivered, what had gotten into him so early in the morning?
With her hair in disarray, Ye Jiuliang slowly sat up.
"My Lord Li, why aren’t you sleeping? What are you staring at my belly for?"
If it were someone else, they would probably get a fright. Imagine being stared awake early in the morning, wouldn’t that leave a psychological shadow?
"Isn’t it frequent enough?" Li Mochan frowned slightly, muttering to himself.
Ye Jiuliang rubbed her bleary eyes, "Frequent what?"
Before her words fell, the tall figure leaned in close.
Ye Jiuliang was confused and hurriedly pushed him away with her hands, "Hey, hey, Li Mochan, what kind of madness has struck you this early in the morning?"
She looked up into those deep, ocean-like dark eyes, hiding a glimmer she knew all too well.
Ye Jiuliang was petrified.
What had she done to provoke him again?
"The marriage certificate is obtained." Li Mochan’s arms were propped on either side of her, firmly trapping her in his embrace.
She looked at him, puzzled. "So what?"
She knew the marriage certificate had been obtained, what was he telling her this for?
He said each word deliberately, "It’s time to have kids."
The frankness of his words stunned Ye Jiuliang, leaving her momentarily speechless.
Frequent?
Time to have kids?
Putting his words together and thinking about it, Ye Jiuliang’s thoughts were in disarray.
She glared at him with murderous eyes, her fair hand grabbing his collar, "Li Mochan, are you sick or something?"
Was it just because she teased him a couple of times last night when buying sugar-fried hawthorn, that he had to hold a grudge?
Disturbing her early morning dreams just to talk about having kids, could she punch him?
His neatly pressed clothes were now wrinkled from her tugging, but Li Mochan didn’t care; he lowered his head and gently pecked her forehead. "Wouldn’t it be nice to have a kid?"
"These things should happen naturally, don’t you understand?" This place was not suitable to discuss having kids, Ye Jiuliang wasn’t about to indulge him.
Li Mochan wasn’t so easily fooled, and shot back at her, "Aren’t we just going with the flow now?"
Ye Jiuliang felt like spitting blood, narrowing her eyes, "Are you saying you want to marry another?"
A rare look of confusion crossed Li Mochan’s brow as he failed to grasp her words for a moment.
Ye Jiuliang reached for his neck with her hand, her fingertip moving downward, lightly touching the faint red scratch mark.
She tilted her face up, her rosy lips brushing his ear as she spoke in a softer voice, "Li Mochan, if you keep this up, I swear my back is going to break."
His chuckle, warm and intoxicating, filled the air as heat from her breath spilled into his ear, causing Li Mochan’s deep eyes to tense and his throat to overflow with a deep, drunken laughter.
