Chapter 297: In Trouble? Find the Time Machine First
"I am Shimono Hisanobu, the proctor for the first exam of the Chunin Exams—the written test. The exam will last until ten in the morning. There are ten questions in total, with a maximum score of one hundred. Anyone scoring below seventy will be disqualified on the spot, and if one member is disqualified, the entire team is eliminated."
Shimono Hisanobu wrote the exam time on the blackboard and then addressed all the students in the classroom.
"Seventy points." Kakashi subconsciously glanced at Obito, who was two rows behind him.
Although Kakashi thought seventy points was easy, he seriously doubted Obito could achieve it on his own.
"You may do whatever you can to complete the test, as long as you don't get caught. If you are caught cheating five times, you will be disqualified immediately." Shimono Hisanobu paused and added.
Cheating was allowed in the Chunin Exams because it was itself part of the test.
The Chunin Exam didn't assess a single ability; it tested overall capability. If you couldn't solve a question yourself, you could obtain information from others to complete the exam.
To prevent a situation where no one in the entire exam room could solve the problems, Konoha also sent some ninjas to use Transformation Jutsu to blend in among the examinees and write out the correct answers.
"Damn it, seventy isn't just a pass—it's really high!" Obito complained inwardly about Shimono Hisanobu.
But after complaining, he felt nervous. Although he had been working hard on practice tests these past few days, his highest score on the last one was only in the sixties.
Obito took a deep breath to force himself to calm down. First, he would pray to the Mighty Muyue Sage.
"Almighty Muyue Sage, please send me back to seven days ago so I can study for another seven days!" Obito clasped his hands together and prayed silently.
Obito felt that without the almighty Muyue Sage sending him through time, he was doomed. If his poor theory skills made him fail the first round and caused Rin Nohara to fail too, Obito would be heartbroken.
Just when Obito was in despair, he suddenly noticed that the test paper handed out looked familiar.
Obito picked up the paper and carefully looked at the questions. His expression instantly changed from worry to joy, because he had done similar questions for all ten items, and Muyue had explained them. Although the actual questions had slight changes, they weren't very different.
"The Mighty Muyue Sage really is all-powerful!" Obito cheered inwardly, picked up his pen, and started answering rapidly.
Even though he had never scored seventy before, Obito firmly believed he could break his limit and reach the realm of seventy high points this time.
But Obito knew that this power to break his limit did not belong to him—it belonged to the Mighty Muyue Sage.
"Could it be that he happened to encounter questions he can solve?" Kakashi noticed Obito's excited expression and guessed inwardly.
For him, this was indeed something unlikely to happen, because given the scope of the Chunin Exam, there was basically nothing he didn't know.
Then Kakashi began answering at lightning speed. Although Obito looked confident, Kakashi didn't trust Obito in this area, so he planned to finish quickly and find a way to send the answers to Obito.
"Thank goodness for Obito and Teacher Muyue." Might Guy also breathed a sigh of relief when he saw the exam content.
Muyue had considered Obito, and naturally he wouldn't forget Might Guy, who had the same theory struggles as Obito. That day, he had Obito take two copies of the practice test and give one to Might Guy.
Ebisu had no idea that Might Guy had gone through a period of intensive drill training. He was just glad he was lucky this time—his seat was right behind Might Guy, making it very easy to pass answers.
At the very beginning of the exam, almost everyone was solving problems. The exam room was filled with the rustling sound of writing, because even if someone wanted to copy, no one had written anything yet.
"Row four, seat five—you and your teammates can leave." Halfway through the exam, Shimono Hisanobu said flatly.
The Grass ninja he pointed at looked incredulous and couldn't help asking, "Aren't there five chances in total?"
"There are indeed five chances, but you've already been caught five times," Shimono Hisanobu said calmly.
The other students who were cheating immediately became alert. This proctor didn't even announce how many times they had been caught—once they hit the limit, they were eliminated directly.
The Grass ninja couldn't speak and finally walked out of the classroom in dejection, followed by his teammates.
With the first team eliminated, the atmosphere in the classroom suddenly became serious and tense.
Taking advantage of the moment when both teachers and students were focused on the eliminated team, Momochi Zabuza immediately used the Hidden Mist Jutsu. Thick white fog enveloped the classroom, and then Zabuza quickly grabbed his teammate's answers and began furiously writing.
By then, Kakashi had already finished and prepared answers to pass to Obito. Seeing the fog rise in the classroom, he immediately threw the answers toward Obito's location from memory.
Ebisu, while inwardly marveling at the boldness of those ninjas from outside the village, quickly handed the answers to Might Guy in front of him.
The fog came and went quickly. The proctors immediately used Wind Release to dispel the mist, revealing the entire classroom of students sitting perfectly still.
"The exam is over. Everyone put down your pens immediately. Results will be announced at one o'clock." At ten o'clock sharp, Shimono Hisanobu ordered the students to stop writing.
Obito, who had finished before ten, left his seat with a relaxed expression. This was the easiest exam he had ever taken in theory.
"Obito, how do you think you did? Can you score seventy?" After walking out of the classroom, Rin Nohara asked Obito with concern.
In the middle and later stages of the exam, she had planned to send answers to Obito, but Obito signaled with his eyes that he didn't need them.
Rin Nohara decided to trust first and question later, so she didn't pass him any answers. She just came to ask him briefly after the exam.
"It's definitely over seventy points!" Obito answered decisively.
"That's really great. Then the first exam should be no problem." Rin Nohara clapped her hands lightly and said with a smile.
"I can believe him this time. After all, the food is already fed into his mouth. If he still can't pass, there's nothing I can do." Kakashi nodded and said.
He directly gave all the answers to Obito. Just copying them would guarantee passing.
"So it was you, Kakashi..." Rin Nohara wanted to thank Kakashi on behalf of Obito, but Obito immediately spoke up to interrupt.
"What do you mean 'food fed into the mouth'? I didn't copy the answers you threw over. I wrote them all myself." Obito quickly explained.
He didn't want all the credit for his passing to go to Kakashi. He admitted that Kakashi had contributed by sending answers, but he hadn't copied them—he just took a simple glance. The real MVP was Mu Yue.
"Are you sure?" Kakashi asked, looking into Obito's eyes.
"Of course!" Obito answered, puffing out his chest and lifting his head.
"Then that might be a bit of a problem. Rin, prepare yourself to be eliminated along with us." Kakashi said, looking at Rin Nohara.
Kakashi knew Obito too well, so he knew that everything Obito just said was true. Obito really hadn't copied his answers.
"Hey hey, Kakashi, what do you mean by that? Isn't it possible for me to score above seventy myself?" Obito asked defiantly.
"Have you ever scored above seventy on the Ninja Academy exams?" Kakashi retorted.
"Uh, that was before. It's different now. Now I have Teacher Mu Yue's help." Obito indicated that times had changed—he, Obito, was no longer the same as before.
"You'll know at one o'clock."
"I hope you're not bluffing, after all, it would only harm you and Rin." Hearing the name Mu Yue, Kakashi gained a little bit of confidence in Obito.
