Chapter 298: Second Exam
Ninja Academy Teacher: I Get Stronger Just by Teaching, Chapter 216 - The Second Exam. When it reached around 12:50, Obito couldn't wait any longer and took Rin Nohara and Kakashi to the bulletin board to wait for the results to be posted.
"So many people." Obito was a bit stunned seeing the already crowded bulletin board; he thought arriving early would help, but it turned out many people were even more anxious to see the results than he was.
"Let's just stand here and wait. After all, this exam determines promotion, so everyone's really enthusiastic." Rin Nohara said with a smile.
Obito nodded and stood together with Rin Nohara, not forcing his way in.
"Move aside." A few minutes later, two ninja wearing chunin vests walked over.
The semicircle of people surrounding the bulletin board immediately and voluntarily made a gap, allowing the proctor to post the results.
"Whew, that was close. Exactly seventy-one points. One more mistake and I would've been eliminated." Someone let out a relieved voice.
"You idiot, I even passed you the answers and you only got sixty-seven. This is bad, first time participating and you didn't even pass the first round." Another person, after looking at the results, speechlessly complained to their teammate.
Everyone at the bulletin board was frantically searching for their own names and scores.
Kakashi, standing to the side, looked composedly at the people shoving wildly. This was within his expectations—the more anxious you are to see your results, the worse they usually are. If you're as sure of passing as he was, there's no need to rush to know.
"Let me in." Hearing that people had already started discussing results, Obito simply used brute force to push his way in.
It wasn't that he was worried about failing; he just wanted to know his score so he could rub it in Kakashi's face.
Obito immediately entered a full-concentration breathing state and, using his physical advantage, squeezed inside.
Obito looked toward the very top, and the first thing he saw was Kakashi's three-digit score at the front.
Obito ignored Kakashi's score and began searching downward for his own.
"Rin, you're amazing—eighty-eight points, eighteen points above the passing line!" Obito first spotted Rin Nohara's score.
"So, did you pass or not?" Kakashi asked.
He wasn't worried about Rin Nohara's score—the only weak point in their team's theory exam was Obito.
"Kakashi, come look." Obito found his own score, his eyes wide. He didn't directly answer Kakashi's question but instead called him over.
By then, the people who had first crowded around had already finished checking their results, so there were fewer people, and Kakashi easily walked over to Obito.
"Eighty points! Kakashi, say something!" Obito pointed excitedly at his own name.
Following the direction of Obito's finger, Kakashi saw Obito's score—it really was eighty points.
Kakashi was a bit surprised. Eighty points wasn't an especially great score, but for Obito to get eighty was rarer than someone who barely passed getting a perfect score.
Obito's smile was incredibly smug; this was an unprecedented high score.
"What do you want me to say? Isn't eighty points just two fewer correct answers?" Kakashi replied flatly.
Obito was momentarily speechless. Kakashi, with his perfect score, had obviously answered all ten questions perfectly. If he wanted eighty, he really only needed to skip two questions.
"Obito, that's really impressive. Last time at the Ninja Academy exam, you didn't even reach fifty, and now you got eighty. You must have studied really hard." Rin Nohara praised softly.
"Hehe, not really, it wasn't as hard as you think." Hearing Rin Nohara's praise, Obito smiled again.
Just then, Might Guy and Asuma also came to check the results.
"Great, everyone passed!" Might Guy gave a thumbs-up to Ebisu and Genma Shiranui.
"Same for us." Asuma said after checking the results.
"Let's all work hard to become chunin!" Obito excitedly pumped his fist. They were all friends, and it was everyone's first time taking the chunin exam.
"How amusing. Is Konoha's chunin exam a game of make-believe? 'Work hard together'?" Zabuza, passing by, sneered.
"Who knows? Maybe it is." Zabuza's teammate shrugged in reply.
"Hey, what do you mean by that?" Asuma asked, displeased at their conversation.
One remark insulted both them and Konoha—Asuma couldn't stand it.
"Exactly what it sounds like." Zabuza replied indifferently.
He really resented these Konoha ninja. Why did they in Kirigakure have to kill their classmates from the academy onward, while Konoha ninja got along so harmoniously?
"You'd better take that back." Obito stood next to Asuma and said to Zabuza.
Faced with such an arrogant ninja from another village, even if Kirigakure had been invited to the chunin exam, Obito wouldn't be polite to him.
"Zabuza, Kurozawa, don't cause any trouble." Hoshigaki Kisame spoke indifferently as he saw them.
If they were outside Konoha Village, he wouldn't mind sparring with these Konoha ninja, but inside the village, forget it—they had a mission to attend the Chunin Exam.
After saying this, Hoshigaki Kisame led the way and left for the location of the second exam briefing.
Zabuza glanced at Hoshigaki Kisame and followed as well.
He and Hoshigaki Kisame hadn't originally been on the same team; it was just a temporary team formed for this Chunin Exam.
Hoshigaki Kisame was appointed team leader, but Zabuza listened to him not because he was the captain, but because Kisame was strong—only two years older than him, yet he gave Zabuza the same feeling as those Kirigakure jonin.
"What a bunch of rude jerks. If I fight them later in the exam, I'll definitely teach them a lesson." Obito said, shaking his fist.
Having already defeated many chunin in direct combat, Obito believed he had the strength to dominate in this exam.
"Don't underestimate them. I can't say for the others, but that shark-faced guy is no pushover." Kakashi warned.
Although he couldn't sense chakra with a jutsu, experienced Kakashi keenly sensed that Hoshigaki Kisame was extraordinary—his aura was completely different from an ordinary ninja.
"I admit I'm a little worse than you in the written test, but when it comes to actual combat, I'll definitely be fine." Obito said confidently.
"Haha, that confidence rivaling my own—truly worthy of you, Obito!" Might Guy bared his bright white teeth and gave Obito a thumbs-up.
"You idiot." Kakashi shook his head, feeling that Obito might suffer for his arrogance.
If Obito fought against normal genin, he'd surely dominate, but this was a Chunin Exam jointly hosted by two major ninja villages—genin here weren't necessarily ordinary genin.
Kakashi thought he might not be the only special case; maybe Kirigakure also had young chunin taking this exam.
If his opponents were those guys, Kakashi didn't think Obito could win easily.
The group arrived together at a large open space beside the Ninja Academy building.
After waiting there for about half an hour, once all qualified students had gathered, Muyue stepped before them with two chunin.
"I am Hanyu Muyue, the proctor for the second exam." Muyue began with a brief self-introduction.
"Teacher Muyue!" Obito saw Muyue and immediately waved happily.
"Damn it, that's the guy who ate one of my strawberry ice creams!" Terumi Mei puffed her cheeks and glared at Muyue, silently engraving the name "Hanyu Muyue" into her mind.
Then Terumi Mei glanced at Obito, memorizing his face, ready to give him a taste of his own medicine if they met during the exam.
"It's not nice to bully an idiot, but his teacher ate my ice cream." The more Terumi Mei thought about it, the more heartbroken she felt—how blissful it would have been if she could have eaten two strawberry ice creams that day.
Muyue smiled back at Obito and continued: "Before I read out the rules, you need to sign a consent form."
The two chunin began distributing the consent forms after Muyue finished, one for each examinee.
"Because in this exam, you might be injured, or even die."
In essence, it was a death waiver. Once signed, all examinees could use any means to attack their opponents during this exam, and killing an opponent would incur no penalty.
"You may choose not to sign, but if one person doesn't sign, the entire team is disqualified." After saying this, Muyue paused, waiting for the examinees to finish signing.
"We actually have to sign a real waiver? This feels really dangerous."
"Yeah, I was asking a senior just a few days ago, and they didn't mention this. Is this exam special somehow?"
Some genin taking the Chunin Exam for the first time began murmuring among themselves.
"That means it's exactly like real combat." Obito scratched his head after hearing that.
He didn't feel much about it, just seeing it as removing the restrictions on exam combat.
"Asuma, are you going to sign?" Namiashi Raido asked, looking at Asuma.
"Of course I'll sign. If you're afraid of getting hurt, you wouldn't become a ninja." Asuma signed the consent form without any hesitation.
Then Kurenai Yūhi also signed decisively.
Within a few minutes, all the students had signed the consent forms, not one giving up.
They were ninja who had graduated from the Ninja Academy—no matter how gentle an academy was, it still taught killing. When it came to life and death, they were exceptionally courageous.
Next, Muyue got straight to the point, first pulling out a map of the Forest of Death and saying:
"This is the venue for your second exam: a circular area enclosed by iron fences. The straight-line distance from the fence to the central tower is about ten kilometers. Inside, there are many poisonous insects and wild beasts."
After introducing the venue, Mu Yue took out two scrolls, one white and one dark.
"Each team can receive one initial scroll, which may be a Heaven Scroll or an Earth Scroll, but regardless of which scroll you receive, you need to collect both types of scrolls and then arrive at the Central Tower to complete the exam."
"You have five days in total. If you cannot collect both Heaven and Earth scrolls and reach the Central Tower within five days, you will be eliminated."
Due to special circumstances, I am still outside, so the update is late. Sorry.
There will be another chapter later, but it will be late. I originally wanted to adjust my schedule, but plans can't keep up with changes.
