Chapter 1443: Ambush

The Austrian general's expression stiffened as he saw the scene before him had changed.

The Longyan army had now cleared a section of the jungle to serve as a buffer zone.

"General, what should we do?"

"Attack!"

The Austrian general issued the order; the arrow was already on the string and had to be released.

The Austrian general had anticipated that if the Longyan army were not familiar with the surrounding geography, they would certainly clear an area with an open field of vision to serve as a buffer zone.

Hah, a petty trick!

The Austrian general gave a cold laugh; it was night, even if there were areas with an open field of vision to serve as a buffer zone.

But in the dead of night, one could not even see their own fingers.

He did not believe the Longyan army could stop him in the darkness.

The Austria Jun launched their attack, but taking advantage of the night, their movements were very stealthy and the sound was very faint.

Yet the moment they rushed out of the jungle, violent explosions resounded throughout the entire valley.

Following that, the violent explosions continued without end.

Ling Chen knew the Austria Jun had arrived the moment he heard the explosions.

"Squad One, move out!"

"Follow me to scout the enemy situation."

Soon, a team of men went to high ground to scout the casualties of the Austria Jun.

Seeing the ground devastated and flickering with firelight, the Austrians had suffered quite a few casualties in this wave of the charge.

The explosions gradually ceased, and the Austrians were trapped in the jungle, not daring to continue the attack.

They could not understand why there would be explosions when stepping on the ground.

What exactly had the Longyan mastered? In that last wave of the charge, they had lost nearly a thousand men!

Ling Chen looked at the Austria Jun who dared not move and gave a cold smile.

The Chief Councilor was as formidable as ever; a little gadget he invented in his spare time was enough to stop the Austria Jun from daring to attack.

But it was a pity that this little gadget, which the Chief Councilor Liu Zheng called a landmine.

Had no way to actively control the explosion and could only be triggered when the enemy stepped on it.

Otherwise, if such equipment were used in an ambush, one could completely blow the entire ambushed army to the sky without wasting a single soldier.

It was a bit of a pity; I will tell Lord Liu Zheng later to have him research it further.

The Austrian general, seeing this sudden wave of explosions, although he did not understand how the Longyan had done it.

But it no longer mattered.

His expression was extremely ugly; this wave of explosions already meant their movements had been discovered by the Longyan.

And the opponent had even anticipated his actions.

Although the Austrian general could not believe it, he could not ignore everything happening before his eyes.

Seeing this scene, the Austrian general felt a chill down his back; in this game of chess, he had always treated the Longyan as prey.

A cunning prey.

But this prey had still walked into the trap he had set.

Yet now it seemed that his own Austria Jun was the prey.

The Longyan were the hunters.

The Austrian general gave a cold laugh; although the previous explosions had shocked him, they had not crushed him.

"Use the cannon to bombard the ground and see what tricks the Longyan army is up to!"

Soon, the Austria Jun set up their cannon and attacked frantically.

It was just that the target of the attack was not the natural cave in the distance; at this moment, the Austria Jun was about two hundred meters away from the natural cave.

But the range of their cannon was only one hundred and fifty meters, so there was no way to attack the natural cave at all.

As for attacking from the other end of the natural cave and blasting through the entire valley, that was a very stupid idea.

But any professional soldier knew that making ammunition inevitably required gunpowder.

And igniting gunpowder required a fuse.

Although he did not know how the Longyan

Army buried bombs in the soil and could ignite the fuse just by walking over them.

But the principle was the same.

So as long as they used the cannon to bombard the ground, the resulting intense vibration and firelight would inevitably trigger the gunpowder bombs buried by the Longyan army below.

The three cannon of the Austria Jun roared with a boom.

Bombarding the ground.

Then a series of sympathetic detonations erupted instantly, and explosions more intense than their three cannon filled the entire valley.

The Austrian general could even feel the earth trembling violently out of fear of the explosions!

The Austrian general looked at the craters left behind after the explosions with lingering fear.

The Longyan... damn it!

Fortunately, he had brought three cannon; otherwise, their situation would only have become worse.

Seeing the sympathetic detonations nearing their end.

The Austrian general revealed an arrogant expression of having survived a disaster, gave a cold laugh, and drew the command saber at his waist: "Attack, the Longyan army's traps have all been cleared."

The Austrian soldiers were slightly stunned, having witnessed the earth-shattering explosions just now.

Now the entire open space no longer looked as it had before; the previous explosions were just that terrifying.

What if the Longyan still have a backup plan?

The Austrian general swept his gaze coldly over his soldiers, knowing they had been frightened by the explosion just now.

After all, on any battlefield in Europe, an explosion of this kind rarely occurred.

"Advance! Disobey military orders, and you die!"

Under the threat of the Austrian general, the Austrian guards slowly moved forward, lacking the courage they had previously shown when charging into battle.

After all, the Longyan could make the earth explode!

Ling Chen, standing at a vantage point, saw what the Austria Jun had just done and was slightly stunned; he had not expected these Austria Jun to actually bring Cannon onto the battlefield.

According to his understanding, the equipment of the Austria Jun was not as sophisticated as that of the French, and their Cannon were all very heavy and difficult to transport.

In mountain forests, these heavy firearms could hardly play any role.

But he had not expected these Austrians to actually bring these Cannon into the jungle.

Now that the battlefield was open, it was actually suitable for the use of Cannon.

For the Longyan army, this was not good news, and Ling Chen revealed a smile.

"Let's go; these Austria Jun will be coming up soon. Order the Artillery to get ready."

"Yes!"

Ling Chen sneered; the Longyan also had Cannon, and they were Longyan Cannon specifically developed for jungle warfare!

The Austria Jun launched a charge.

On the other side, the Longyan army had long been waiting in full battle array to resist the enemy.

Outside the natural karst cave, the sound of gunfire rang out.

The Longyan army still had cover, but the Austria Jun had absolutely no cover in this open area.

They could only rely on those craters to crawl forward.

The situation was exceptionally difficult.

The Austrian general felt secretly anxious; the top priority now was to establish a defensive line and move the Cannon to a range where they could bombard the Longyan army.

Only in this way did the Austria Jun still have a possibility of winning.

The Austrian general immediately ordered: "First, third, and fourth squads, provide covering fire for the attack! Second squad, escort the Artillery to the designated position!"

"Yes!"

Three squads of the Austria Jun unleashed even more intense gunfire for cover, for a moment suppressing the gunfire of the Longyan army.

Just at this moment, the second squad of the Austria Jun struggled forward while escorting three Cannon.

Ling Chen saw this scene and gave a cold laugh; the Austria Jun wanted to rely on the Cannon to blast open a gap.

Utilizing the advantage of the Cannon—this idea was indeed not bad.

It is a pity that they thought wrong!
