Chapter 805: Transmitting Information (Beginning of Month, Requesting Monthly Votes)

~9 min read 1,779 words

Lu Mi had experienced something similar before, more than once.

Every day, when Franca prayed to the bone-like statue of the "Primordial Witch," he would sometimes be nearby; even through doors and walls, through the "Wall of Spirit," he could not avoid a faint agitation.

"Is Julie praying to the 'Primordial Witch' statue?" Lu Mi kept his eyes closed, but he now had a reasonable guess about the situation.

This wasn't necessarily due to her particular piety—it was part of the daily routine of the Witch Cult, and followers like Franca, the "Fool," were required to perform it on schedule.

Not long after, the ambiguous energies in the air gradually dissipated, and Lu Mi's state returned to normal.

Suddenly, he remembered something:

Where did Julie get the "Primordial Witch" statue?

During their exile to Mogang, Lu Mi noticed that Les and Julie and the others had not carried any personal belongings—meaning, except for himself, who had not been searched and received special treatment, all other exiles had been processed normally.

So Julie shouldn't currently possess a standard-issue Witch Cult statue; even if she wanted to make one herself, she'd need to buy materials and perform rituals to proceed—but Lu Mi's surveillance today showed she had made no preparations for this yet.

"Then where did her 'Primordial Witch' statue come from? Or did she directly utter the Primordial Witch's true name using a language capable of manipulating natural forces? But if so, the leaked power's effect on me was too weak—even weaker than the residual divine energy from Franca's prayer, and yet it wasn't just a slight agitation…" Lu Mi became exceptionally alert.

He quickly formed a hypothesis:

Sylvestre had been here!

This "Witch," now an experimental subject, had given Julie the "Primordial Witch" statue—or something similar!

"Why didn't I notice?"

"I've been monitoring every sound from Julie's room…"

Thinking of this, Lu Mi sat up abruptly and turned his gaze to the full-length mirror in his bedroom.

Yes!

Sylvestre must have come through the Mirror World!

She communicated with Julie through the mirror—that's why I detected nothing unusual until Julie began praying!

It's perfectly normal for the Witch Cult to possess items similar to "Mirror Clasps"!

Lu Mi silently slipped out of bed and walked to the full-length mirror in his room.

He felt it was time to use the "Mirror Clasp."

He put on the glass-like sleeve button and pressed his hand against the mirror's surface.

The button-like ornament immediately glowed faintly; Lu Mi's figure instantly pierced through the mirror's surface and entered the deep, dark Mirror World.

Before the dense, spiderweb-like tunnels of dark void, Lu Mi clearly sensed the three mirror imprints he had left in the outside world, as well as the several he had previously placed in Julie's and Les's rooms.

He didn't rush to pass through to the mirror behind Julie's room; instead, he reached into his "Traveler's Satchel" and pulled out an unfinished letter.

It was addressed to Franca, Jianna, and Anthony.

Lu Mi immediately activated the black mark on his right shoulder, attempting to "transmit" it toward the full-length mirror in Franca and Jianna's apartment.

It felt impossibly distant, as if blocked by an invisible barrier; even if he pierced the barrier, there remained an endless, profound, silent void—Lu Mi intuitively knew it concealed unspeakable danger and terror.

"Does this represent that special Mirror World?"

"To escape Mogang and return to the outside world, must one pass through it?"

"Even an Angel would find it dangerous…"

As Lu Mi's thoughts raced, he extended his right hand holding the letter, using the already activated power of the "Mirror Clasp" to make the paper glow with the color of reflected glass, then sent it flying.

The streak of light clung to the invisible barrier, slowly seeping through like the information from the three external mirror imprints, sinking into the silent darkness, heading toward the distant target mirror.

"It works…" Lu Mi exhaled in relief and, using the "Spirit World Transit" contract ability, turned toward the mirror in Julie's room.

The mirror was pitch black, with no trace remaining.

Lu Mi sniffed lightly and caught a faint, lingering scent.

It resembled a human hormone, enhanced by mystical influence—subtly sweet, warm and ambiguous.

"Not Julie's body odor…" Lu Mi gave an almost imperceptible nod. "Sylvestre really was here."

The question now was: had Sylvestre brought the item used to traverse the Mirror World into Julie's room by secretly smuggling it past the Knowledge Church's inspection, or had she used the Mirror World's unique ability to bridge inside and outside to send it in via ritual?

"Or perhaps she performed a ritual and petitioned the 'Primordial Witch' for it? Or maybe she's no longer the original Sylvestre, but a corresponding special 'Mirror Person'? That could explain how she retained some selfhood after becoming an experimental subject—but it's not the only explanation…" Lu Mi, an old hand at handling mystical incidents and privy to many secrets, naturally thought of those special "Mirror People."

He did not peer through the mirror to observe Julie's current state—he feared Sylvestre might have given this "Witch" items related to the Mirror World, making her hypersensitive to gaze from within.

Moreover, Julie had just finished praying; residual peculiarities from the "Primordial Witch" statue still lingered, and Lu Mi had no way of knowing whether this might affect his observation.

Of course, he could roughly guess what Julie was doing.

Because through the mirror, he had heard Julie's muffled, faint moans, tightly suppressed.

"Reunion with a lover, item obtained—definitely worth relaxing and celebrating." Lu Mi nodded, smiling silently. "And the agitation from praying to the 'Primordial Witch' statue—she hasn't even gone out to buy new collectibles yet, which is already quite restrained."

Lu Mi "transmitted" back to the full-length mirror in his room, stepped out of the glass surface, and lay back on the bed.

…………

Trier.

"Empty, lonely, cold…" Franca, who had long maintained a habit of early sleep and early rising, sighed on her bed, tossing and turning without sleep.

She felt she still needed a few more days to adapt.

At that moment, she sensed something, sat up, left her room, and entered the living room.

She gazed at the full-length mirror in the living room and saw water-like ripples glowing on the glass surface, revealing a neatly folded sheet of paper.

"Lu Mi's? Or the 'Black Witch's'?" Franca walked over and pressed her hand against the glass mirror.

Her right hand grew slightly cold, as if passing through lake water mixed with ice, touching paper that had become illusory, no longer tangible.

The paper instantly "unfurled," transforming into lines of Intis script appearing on the mirror's surface:

"I have arrived at Mogang…"

Lu Mi briefly recounted his experiences and the results of the experiments, but omitted specific details about Mogang.

This was a contamination!

Franca and the others likely couldn't withstand this contamination!

At the end of the letter, Lu Mi instructed:

"I've already informed my messenger and Lady Hela: if anyone writes to me but cannot find me, forward it to you—you, Franca—now you temporarily have a messenger."

Fuck, he had to mock me one last time! Franca cursed under her breath, grinding her teeth in frustration and amusement.

She thought for a moment and began writing her reply:

"Nothing else to say, but I'll remind you of one thing:

"The 'Black Witch' told me that 'Witches' identified by color occasionally receive primordial oracles, possessing strong autonomy. They are like this—could the 'Pain Witch' sent to Mogang for critical missions be the same? Could they also receive primordial oracles, even directly gain a touch of divine power through the statue?"

"You must take this seriously. And now comes the test of your 'Ascetic' endurance—if you're seduced by them and lose your manhood, even if you regrow it every morning, I'll mock you for life."

After finishing, Franca folded the paper and took from her "Traveler's Satchel" a translucent, ice-like rectangular amulet.

The amulet was entirely transparent, its interior swirling with bubble-like patterns and designs.

It was the "Ice Amulet" given to Franca by the "Black Witch," capable of seven Mirror World transits; if used only for message transmission, it could be used fourteen times.

Franca fastened the amulet, took the written letter, and returned to the full-length mirror.

With a flash of crystalline icy light, she pressed the letter into the glass surface, sending it sinking toward the place where the message had just arrived.

…………

Mogang.

Lu Mi finished reading the letter displayed on the mirror's surface and lay back on the bed again.

He looked forward to possible surprises.

That would be Wanack, the owner of Dades Agriculture Company, coming at night to kill him.

This most dangerous criminal in Mogang would soon identify which exiled prisoner he had confronted in the afternoon—he must already know Lu Mi had killed the owner of the "Carnivore" bar and taken over the place.

Given his attitude at the time, he had wanted to kill Lu Mi on the spot; now that he had confirmed the target and located him, he would act swiftly.

Lu Mi had stayed awake all night, merely feigning sleep—not only to monitor Julie's movements, but also because this was one of his main reasons.

Now, he hoped Wanack would come soon; then, he would "transmit" away, leaving Julie, the "Witch," behind for him, forcing them into a fierce duel—so he could observe what hidden cards Julie held, what items she had received from Sylvestre, and whether Wanack could further harness the power of "0—01."

What Lu Mi found regrettable was that Wanack never appeared all night.

"Does he really need to be this cautious? Why not just come straight in…" Lu Mi muttered, rolling out of bed and walking down the stairs to the lobby.

The Chef Les had already risen and was preparing breakfast with ingredients from the kitchen.

"We can resume operations by noon," Les glanced at Lu Mi. "But we have no stock of beef, lamb, or pork."

"I'll give you startup funds," Lu Mi said, turning to leave the kitchen—when suddenly he heard Julie's slow footsteps descending the stairs.

His mind stirred; he feigned casualness and said to Les:

"By the way, I'll tell you a few people to avoid—don't provoke them under any circumstances.

"One is Wanack, the owner of Dades Agriculture Company…"

Lu Mi relayed all of Guxin's warnings to Les, then added:

"Another is Albus Medici…"

The moment he spoke the name, Julie's footsteps paused briefly.
