Chapter 10: Sorrowful Eyes 1

~3 min read 469 words

"If you invite me, I'll definitely be happy to go." I rolled my eyes at Lili and said.

"I really don't know what you're thinking."

"Why are you still saying that? Why did you give my number to Shangguan Yun?" I sat up and yelled at Lili.

"Um… he wants it, can I not tell him? Besides, if I don't tell him, someone else will." Lili said to me without any guilt; looking at her expression, it felt like she was helping me.

"Alright, let's go eat." After saying that, she jumped off the bed and walked out.

During evening self-study, bored, I took out Shangguan Yun's letter and started reading it.

I didn't expect that from his words and tone I could also feel his overwhelming confidence; he was always so sure of himself. I couldn't help but smile.

Then I felt someone poking me from behind; I turned around and saw Lili's beaming face as she said to me, "What did Shangguan Yun write in your letter? You're smiling so much."

"Look at it yourself." I tossed the letter onto Lili's desk and then turned back.

I rested my chin on my hand and gazed out the window.

It's class time now; outside there's none of the usual noise, it's very quiet, almost silent.

On a summer night, the stars twinkle in the sky; gusts of cool breeze sweep away the day's residual heat, leaving the earth in utter stillness.

Enjoying the gentle, cool evening breeze drifting in. It's very comfortable.

Just as I was enjoying it, my phone vibrated; I furtively pulled it out, opened it, and saw a message from Shangguan Yun: "Come to the field with me tonight; if you try to run away, you'll bear the consequences."

Seeing his words "you'll bear the consequences," my heart involuntarily trembled. What does he want, anyway? So many girls admire him—why did he pick me? I'm tormented inside.

I thought, forget it; it's better to make things clear, so we don't end up in an ambiguous mess.

This is school; what could he possibly do to me? I'm not afraid of him. I bolstered my courage and said.

After great effort, when school finally ended, Shangguan Yun was already there early, blocking people.

I tossed the book in my hands into Lili's arms and said, "First, take me there."

Lili glanced at Shangguan Yun, then gave me an ambiguous look and said, "Don't worry." Then she walked away.

And I, panting, followed behind Shangguan Yun in silence. The people around stared at us, some unaccustomed to the sight.

On the way I even ran into a teacher; I was so frightened I shrank my head, and in my heart I cursed Shangguan Yun.

Before I knew it, we had already reached the lawn of the field.
