Chapter 895: Completion Afterword
When I wrote the three words "The whole book is finished," the Tiger felt a great surge of emotion. Since this book uploaded its first chapter on November 19, 2021, as of today, it has been exactly one year and nine months.
In these twenty-one months, the Tiger completed 3.56 million characters of writing, averaging around 170,000 characters per month.
If one considers that this July and August were basically intermittent updates, the monthly average would actually be a bit higher.
For the Tiger, this is a brand-new record, and also a milestone in life. Especially in terms of income, this book can be said to be the one that truly made the Tiger money.
And all of this could not have happened without the support and companionship of the readers.
Thinking back to those days, the first time the Tiger got the idea to write a story about the Guiyi Army, it began with an old brother the Tiger met while traveling in Dunhuang.
The old brother was from Yunnan, but according to him, his ancestors were from Gansu. His ID card listed him as Tibetan, but he should actually be Tu.
The old brother firmly believed he was Tuyuhun, and he brought out DNA test evidence, saying that his family was the Guazhou Murong clan who merged into Western Xia, and were finally conquered by the Mongols and brought back to the He-Huang Valley.
At the time, the Tiger did not understand any of this at all, and could not tell truth from falsehood. Having just entered society with little experience, the Tiger was completely taken in by him, and a feeling of considerable admiration rose in the Tiger's heart.
Seeing that someone seemed to actually believe what he said, the old brother was especially happy, and immediately took the Tiger around Dunhuang. He said he came back every few years, treating it as paying respects to his ancestors.
(The image of Murong Xinzhang was written exactly after this old brother's likeness. Tall, mighty, warm-hearted and passionate, yet also a bit obsessed. At first he was designed to be the protagonist's brother, but later the Tiger thought a good eldest son seemed more interesting.)
And during this sightseeing, the Tiger also learned for the first time, from someone else's mouth, the story of the Guiyi Army of Shazhou, and learned of Zhang Yichao, such a heroic and tragic national hero, and boundless admiration and regret rose in the Tiger's heart.
However, the Tiger's first book did not write about the Guiyi Army, because the history of the Guiyi Army was simply too little known. The Tiger worried that even if it was written, there would be no readers who could resonate with it.
Here the Tiger must thank the Bilibili uploader Anzhou Mu. It was he who brought this long-dust-covered, heroic and tragic history back into the view of history enthusiasts.
Before this, although there were many experts within Gansu Province and at home and abroad researching the Guiyi Army, it had not been popularized among ordinary people.
With the popularity of Anzhou Mu's Guiyi Army series, the Tiger finally got the idea to write about the Guiyi Army, thinking that even if there was no feedback in terms of income, at least a few kindred spirits could be found.
But reality gave the Tiger a great surprise. Although many aspects of the Tiger's writing had various flaws of one kind or another, the readers still gave tremendous support and enthusiasm, enabling the Tiger to persist and finish this book.
Here, the Tiger thanks my two Alliance Masters, the reader Nine Heavens Son of Heaven and the reader Jiang Xuanjing.
Thanks to the Grandmaster, the reader Angel in the Dark Night.
The Elder, the reader ZJM Ming.
As well as twenty-two Hall Master readers including Gusu Chengwai Hanshan Si Zhong, Kan Zhe Ban Ba, and others.
Two hundred forty-seven readers who subscribed to the entire book, and all nine thousand readers who have ever subscribed.
It is your support that makes every night when the Tiger codes until the back aches and the waist is sore, though tiring, feel worth it!
It is over, but the Tiger's next book will meet everyone in early September. The Tiger sincerely invites all readers to come then to sample, critique, and correct it.
Thank you all. We will meet again in September!
(There will be around ten chapters of extras afterward, including the future of the Six Dharma Sect and so on, all of which will be presented, but the update schedule may not be guaranteed. The Tiger will try to code them out as soon as possible.)
