Chapter 1540: The Avengers

Xia Qing understood, "Old Four, you mean you're taking the three evolved mastiffs from the southern wolf pack to Mountain 33 to find the bad human Deng Yufeng?"

Old Four nodded.

Xia Qing raised her concern, "Those three are all tamed dogs of the Blaze Squad. If they recognize the Blaze members, might they turn around and team up with them to deal with you and Yang Jin's squad?"

Old Four looked at Xia Qing seriously for a few seconds, then flipped his phone's camera.

On the screen in front of Xia Qing and Yang Jin, the entrance of the wolf den where Old Four lived appeared. Then, this old wolf walked out of the den, pulled off his mask, tilted his head back, and let out a long howl—the howl a wolf king makes when summoning his pack members.

Soon, Xia Qing heard the wolves' responses: the one-eared wolf's, the little scarred-face wolf's, Xiao Hei Mei's… and three responses whose tones were clearly different from the other wolves—these three howls were deep and resonant, without the high-pitched quality of a wolf howl.

Xia Qing asked, "Old Four, were those last three howls from the three mastiffs?"

Old Four nodded seriously, then let out another howl with rising and falling tones—the command sound a wolf king uses to summon specific pack members.

Soon, Xia Qing saw the three mastiffs leap onto the cliff, affectionately sniffing each other and nuzzling their heads against one another.

Xia Qing observed the three mastiffs carefully and noticed that the rope marks on their necks had disappeared, their fur had grown thick, and they no longer showed the anger and fear they once had toward Old Four—they could also understand the meaning of wolf howls now.

"Old Four, this…"

"Woo—" Before Xia Qing could finish, the three mastiffs, hearing human voices, bared their fangs and assumed attack postures at the same time. After a low growl from Old Four, they closed their mouths simultaneously.

"Old Four, these three mastiffs have gotten stronger." After saying this, Xia Qing bumped Yang Jin with her shoulder.

Yang Jin spoke up, "Congratulations, Fourth Brother, on gaining three capable companions."

Hearing Yang Jin and Xia Qing's voices, the mastiffs showed angry, fierce postures, but under Old Four's suppression they did not bark.

"Good, as long as they can maintain this state when encountering Blaze Squad members and don't bark loudly, that's fine." After confirming the mastiffs' condition, Xia Qing began discussing the split, "Old Four, if the mission succeeds, three-tenths of the seized supplies will be yours. Is that acceptable?"

Old Four thought for a few seconds, then slowly nodded.

"Alright." Xia Qing slowly and carefully repeated the mission content and the split ratio, "Old Four is responsible for communicating with the Huiyi western wolf pack, preventing them from attacking Yang Jin's squad, and leading the mastiffs to search for traces of the bad people on Mountain 33. After finding the bad people, Old Four leads the wolf pack and mastiffs to retreat to a safe zone, and Yang Jin's squad is responsible for the capture. After the supplies are seized, Old Four gets three-tenths."

Old Four nodded first, then raised his head high.

Xia Qing understood, "Old Four wants to be the captain of this capture mission?"

Old Four nodded.

Xia Qing looked at Yang Jin. Yang Jin had no objections, "Fine, Fourth Brother is captain, I'm vice-captain."

After clarifying the mission content and leadership, Xia Qing instructed, "Old Four, don't rush. Deng Yufeng hiding there isn't going to run away. Wait until Yang Jin's squad links up with you, then you lead the human-wolf-dog team into action."

After hanging up the phone, Xia Qing discussed with Yang Jin, "Deng Yufeng's whole body is toxic. The most reliable way to capture her is with a special anesthetic. If we give Third Brother two-tenths of the seized supplies, not only will he provide the anesthetic, he'll also provide various antidotes and self-defense potions, reducing the risk of poisoning when your squad fights Deng Yufeng and the squad protecting her, and improving survival rates."

"Of course." Yang Jin had personally seen how useful the big shot's potions were many times, and had used them many times himself, so naturally he had no objections.

"Good, then Old Four gets three-tenths, you guys get three-tenths, and Third Brother and I each get two-tenths." After settling the matter, Xia Qing and Yang Jin went to Territory Seven to pick up the medicine.

Zhang San breathed a long sigh of relief upon hearing that Xia Qing wouldn't personally go capture Deng Yufeng. After deciphering that string of numbers, what he worried about most was Xia Qing running out.

Although this new human was timid and overly cautious, the location Liao Wendong gave for the hidden supplies was Evolution Forest. For the safety of the southern wolf pack, she might very well choose to take the risk.

In fact, Zhang San had guessed correctly. Xia Qing had indeed originally planned to go out herself, serving as the sniper for this mission while also being responsible for communicating with the wolf pack so they could cooperate better with humans.

But Yang Jin told her that Brother Luo would rush back from the eastern mangrove forest defense belt to settle last year's grudge against Deng Yufeng for the maiming-snake poison, and Xie Yu would also go into battle.

After Luo Pei's poison was completely cured, he returned to peak condition. Although Xia Qing's sniping ability was comparable to his, her close-combat ability and combat experience were a notch below his, and Luo Pei coordinated better with Yang Jin. Therefore, he was more suited to be the sniper for this mission than Xia Qing.

Over the years, the Green Dragon and Blaze Squad had deep enmity. To capture Deng Yufeng, the Green Dragon's top three combat powers have assembled for battle!

If Xia Qing doesn't go, who will be responsible for communicating with the wolves and coordinating combat?

That would, of course, be the former southern wolf king—fluent in human language at level ten, able to write and use communication tools, familiar with human combat methods, and having learned from Xia Qing how to evade chemical weapons—a tri-system evolver in brain domain, speed, and strength: Old Four.

Just like the Green Dragon Squad's three leaders, the southern wolf pack also has a deep blood feud with the Blaze Squad.

This grudge must be avenged—or no true wolf!

Zhang San reminded Yang Jin, "If Deng Yufeng really is over there, Liao Wendong's purpose in revealing this address might be to let Deng Yufeng kill whoever comes to retrieve the supplies, to get his revenge."

Yang Jin answered more rigorously, "Anyone who hinders Liao Wendong's revenge will be considered his enemy. We captured and took his life, so we're his enemies; Deng Yufeng hiding away to survive is, in Liao Wendong's eyes, also betrayal. So Liao Wendong dangled the 320 million in supplies to lure us over, to make us and the Fire Phoenix perish together."

Zhang San nodded, got up and went to the lab, and more than half an hour later brought out a case of potions and set it on the table.

"Deng Yufeng is a recovery-type evolver; her own combat ability isn't high, so she has an extreme lack of security. She may very well be hiding alone inside some solid, concealed bunker. The area around her hiding spot may be fraught with danger—there may be several high-combat modified humans who rely on her blood, the uncontaminated spring water she brought with her, or other high-quality resources to survive."

After saying this, Zhang San opened the case and took out the first potion, "This is a hallucinogen. Anyone who inhales it will develop extremely negative emotions. I tested it using the modified human Huo Lin's protective suit and confirmed this hallucinogen can penetrate the Blaze modified humans' protective suits."

Extremely negative? What a great thing!

Xia Qing's eyes lit up, but after being glared at by her idol, she pressed her lips tightly together and said nothing. Yang Jin, who was pretending to be dead serious, was also glared at fiercely by Zhang San.

After glaring at them, Zhang San took out the second potion, "This is an upgraded anesthetic. Just open the bottle mouth and use it—it can indiscriminately knock out all creatures within 200 meters who inhale air containing this gas. It can penetrate the filter cartridges of protective masks and airtight protective suits, but it cannot penetrate sealed glass enclosures…"

"These six antidotes…"

"These three odor-isolating agents…"

After the big shot finished introducing one by one what potions were in this case, Yang Jin couldn't help his eyes sparkling too.

Zhang San closed the case and asked, "Deng Yufeng is a rare recovery-type evolver. Are you planning to capture her alive, or…?"
