Chapter 1546: The Return of the Western Wolf King
"Roar————"
On Hui-3 Mountain No. 35, a fierce tiger roared at the summit, sending rubble and snow tumbling into the mountain crevices.
The bad humans hiding in the mountain crevices refused to come out, and the blind tiger guarding the outside irritably whipped its tail against the rocks. When the tail swung back, it struck the broken-waisted wolf on the other side.
The broken-waisted wolf pulled a short section of Yi snake from its side pouch, set it before the blind tiger to keep it quiet for a while, then ran back to Yanlong's side and stared with green wolf-eyes at the footage the spider robot was transmitting back from the mountain crevices.
On Hui-3 Mountain No. 22, Scarface Junior wolf father and son led Yang Jin's squad running south at full speed.
On Hui-1 Mountain No. 33, Third Peak, a mastiff was sniffing the ground as it moved forward, and behind the mastiff followed the former wolf king of the southern wolf pack, Fourth Brother.
At the edge of First Peak on Hui-3 Mountain No. 48, Xia Qing, sensing Big Guy's speed dropping, immediately ordered, "Second Guy, come here!"
The giant wolf Second Guy, running behind, sped up and drew alongside Big Guy. Xia Qing leaped from Big Guy's back onto Second Guy's, pointed at the peak ahead, and urged, "Run—get there as fast as you can!"
Second Guy shook its body in annoyance and shot out like an arrow leaving the bowstring.
"Sister Qing… holy shit!"
Ma Jun, a senior sniper from Azure Dragon Squad One, who was halfway up a tree, spotted three giant wolves charging up the five-hundred-meter slope. He pressed his walkie-talkie button to report the situation to Xia Qing, but before he could, he noticed there was actually a person on the wolves' backs—and the shock sent him tumbling back down the tree.
Xia Qing, a Level Nine visually evolved human riding on the wolf's back, saw Ma Jun fall from the tree and knew what had startled him. She asked calmly, "Ma Jun, are you hurt?"
"…No. I'll reach the designated sniper point right away." Ma Jun swallowed all his shock and began climbing the tree again. When he reached the sniper position and saw the sturdy steel-plate sniper blind fixed to the main trunk, he knew today was in the bag.
One minute later, Xia Qing reached the designated sniper point.
Half a minute later, a trained eagle-owl from Territory Eight landed in front of Xia Qing.
One minute later, the eagle-owl took off again, carrying a black round bomb.
Five minutes later, all of Azure Dragon Squad One reached the positions Xia Qing had deployed. Tang Zhou, captain of Azure Dragon Squad Five, arrived at Sniper Point Three carrying senior sniper Zhang Ling on his shoulder.
Eight minutes later, four more members of Tang Zhou's squad arrived. To enter the Northern Zone One territory from Mountain No. 48, they had to pass through the ambush circle the squad had set up.
What came next was a simple catch in a jar.
Ten minutes in, Seeing Xin Yu reported, "The ten-person infiltration squad will enter the ambush circle in three minutes."
Amid howl after howl, Xia Qing calmly gave orders: "Copy. All personnel, prepare for combat. Zhang Ling, Ma Jun—attack only on my command. After we take out the snipers, I'll go hold off the western wolf pack. Di Ming will take over command of the fight."
"Copy."
"Copy."
"…"
Before the squad members' replies had even faded, the angry wolf howls—near and far, rising and falling—suddenly stopped.
Xia Qing immediately realized the Western Wolf King had returned from the western tiger pack's territory and rejoined its companions, preparing to launch an attack alongside them. The western wolf pack hated humans to the bone; in their eyes, there was no difference between Blaze and Azure Dragon!
Xia Qing immediately pulled off her protective mask, tilted her head back, and howled softly, "Aow~ wuu—"
Handsome, the giant wolf lying in the bushes, pricked its ears and turned its head toward Xia Qing's direction. Seeing those familiar blue eyes, the heart Xia Qing had held in her throat immediately settled. She raised an arm and waved at her companion, then turned and hung a walkie-talkie around Big Guy's neck, pointed at the direction where Handsome was, and ordered sternly, "Big Guy, go there right now. Find Handsome. I need to talk to him. Move! Aow!!!"
Big Guy, lying on the ground, stood up, sniffed the air, and ran off toward Xiang Xinanfang. Second Guy and Black Second tried to stand up and follow, but Xia Qing suppressed them by force. The two giant wolves bared their fangs and growled low, but Xia Qing's commanding howl was louder than theirs, and the two wolves had no choice but to retract their fangs.
At the twelve-minute mark, just as the ten-person squad was about to enter the encirclement below Second Peak, a familiar angry snarl came through Xia Qing's earpiece. She immediately ordered, "Handsome, take the western wolf pack and retreat right now. I'll deal with the infiltrating humans."
"Wuu—" The walkie-talkie carried the Western Wolf King's furious snarl.
Xia Qing's finger rested on the trigger, her gaze locked on the target as she spoke sternly, "Wolf King, my lord, this is Xia Qing of the northern wolf pack's humans. Handsome, the infiltrating bad humans are carrying a large amount of highly toxic weapons. I'm about to use bombs to attack the infiltrating bad humans. If you don't retreat, you'll be blown up along with them."
The Western Wolf King kept snarling, but Handsome, who was lying in ambush on Second Peak, stood up, threw back his head, and let out a long, stern howl: "Aow— wuu wuu————"
Just as Xia Qing breathed a sigh of relief, one of the ten-person infiltration squad, advancing at full speed, spoke up: "Shit! That pack of wolves is catching up! We're only three thousand-plus meters from the territory now—if we fight them here, it'll definitely alert the people in the territory. What do we do, Brother Ting?"
The squad leader of the infiltration squad, Huo Ting—a combat-modified human and the sixth-strongest fighter in the Blaze Squad—kept leading the team forward at a sprint: "First use the special-effect anesthetic to put them down. When you retreat, bring two back—we'll eat meat and celebrate."
Huo Ting said "you" rather than "we," because this was the last mission he would ever carry out. On this mission, he would not be retreating; the territory ahead would be his burial ground.
The squad channel fell silent. One of the three infiltrators carrying supplies, who had been shielded in the middle, raised a hand and pulled an anesthetic round from his pack.
"One, two, three!"
"Bang!"
A sniper round left the chamber, a streak of light shooting straight toward the target a thousand meters away. At this distance, it took two seconds from pulling the trigger to the round hitting the target. Huo Ting, a combat-modified human with Level Nine vision and Level Six speed, saw the muzzle flash before he heard the shot. With his rich combat experience, he had already swapped positions, used the soft shield deployed on his arm to block the sniper round, and stepped back three paces to bleed off the impact.
"Bang! Bang!" The two infiltrator snipers quickly returned fire.
"Rat-a-tat-tat—" Dense assault-rifle fire erupted from the ambush side.
The Blaze squad immediately pulled back and dropped behind rocks for cover. There was actually an ambush here—the infiltration squad members began to grow anxious.
The hearing-evolved infiltrator reported: "Medium sniper rifle, engaging at a thousand meters; military assault rifles. These are fucking the training troops from the old regiment HQ next door! A bunch of trash! It's obvious—they're using heavy firepower to block us and buy time!"
The enemy's suppressive fire continued; switching routes was no longer an option. Huo Ting took the shoulder-fired grenade launcher, his eyes bloodthirsty as he stared at the tongues of flame ahead: "Huo Xia, come with me and tear these bastards apart. The rest of you fall back to a safe zone and rest in place."
"Yes!" The combat-modified Huo Xia shouldered a sniper rifle and crawled forward. Two snipers held the rear, while the remaining three squad members covered the retreat of the three supply carriers. As they pulled back, the distance between the three supply carriers grew shorter and shorter…
