Chapter 164: Practicing Breath

~7 min read 1,252 words

The next day, Allen was woken by the chirping of birds outside the window.

After waking, he dared not move or touch recklessly, but instead carefully sensed his own body.

He felt two nozzle-like objects had appeared in his mouth, grown at the entrance of his throat, right at the base of his tongue; the muscles forming these nozzles were incredibly strong and tough. His brain told him he could control these two nozzles to perform a spraying action, but he dared not move them recklessly, instead gently opening his eyes.

The first thing he saw upon opening his eyes was that familiar tabby cat, the patterns around whose eyes were exactly identical to the square glasses McGonagall wore.

The tabby cat was also staring intently at Allen; the moment she saw Allen had awakened, she immediately transformed back into Professor McGonagall.

"Allen, you're awake? Do you feel alright?" Professor McGonagall asked with concern.

Her complexion looked somewhat weary; it seemed she had stayed here guarding him all night.

Allen nodded, feeling an inexplicable twinge of guilt in his heart, and he attempted to sit up.

"Don't make any large movements; you now have two sacs on your neck," Professor McGonagall reminded him.

"Sacs?" Allen was startled in his heart, but he quickly controlled his emotions and carefully sat up.

He felt his neck had become thicker by a circle; two warm sacs were attached to his neck, filled with liquid.

It seemed these were the glands a fire dragon used to spit fire; since he had only transfigured the glands used for a fire dragon's breath, and there was no space in his oral cavity to store these two glands, they were attached to his neck instead.

According to Mr. Scamander, these two sacs should contain different magical secretions.

Professor McGonagall transfigured a mirror to float before Allen, allowing him to see the sacs beneath his neck through the reflection.

The sacs were green, hanging symmetrically on both sides of his neck below his chin, looking as if two extra pieces of flesh had been added. To be honest, these two sacs were somewhat ugly...

But what Allen paid most attention to was not this; I can feel that the nozzles in my mouth are connected to the sacs.

The nozzle on the left had a burning, spicy sensation, while the nozzle on the right had a bitter feeling.

Allen opened his mouth wanting to say something, and Professor McGonagall immediately detected his intention to speak.

"Don't speak; I'm afraid that while talking you might lose control of the glands and spit out dragon breath, so if you have anything you want to say, just write it out directly." The professor handed a piece of parchment to Allen.

Allen thought Professor McGonagall was quite right; in his current state, he was indeed unsuitable for speaking.

"I want to go outside and try; I feel the sacs are already full," Allen wrote on the parchment while gesturing toward the sacs beneath his chin.

"Indeed, it should be so; if you cannot skillfully control the glands transfigured today, I will not allow you to eat in the Great Hall or attend classes; let us find an open, uninhabited place to practice!" Professor McGonagall suggested.

Allen nodded in agreement with Professor McGonagall's proposal.

When Allen finished dressing, he discovered that Madam Pomfrey had already packed a medical kit and was waiting for him together with Professor McGonagall.

In response, Allen could only smile and nod at them.

They decided to go to the lawn in front of the castle to conduct the practice.

As Allen walked through the castle corridors, he encountered many young wizards and professors along the way, all of whom stared in surprise at the sacs beneath Allen's neck.

They all realized what the sacs on Allen's neck were, and began whispering incessantly among themselves; some young wizards even followed directly behind them...

By the time Allen came to his senses, he discovered the queue behind him had grown larger and larger; many young wizards had caught up, and even some professors were among them.

News spread quickly; more and more people were arriving!

Allen felt as though the entire faculty and student body of Hogwarts had mobilized; he even saw Professor Dumbledore, which was notable since this was only the second time he had seen Professor Dumbledore this academic year, the first having been at the start of the second year.

Allen never expected today's spectacle to be so grand; he had absolutely no psychological preparation for it; indeed, watching excitement is human nature, and wizards are no exception.

Professor McGonagall wanted to disperse the gawking young wizards, but she could not identify which school rule they were actually violating? So in the end, she could only let them be...

Under the gaze of the crowd, Allen felt immense pressure.

"Allen, let us begin; under today's circumstances, if you do not demonstrate something, the students will not disperse," that professor said with some worry, "Madam Pomfrey is already prepared; if you have no issues, you may begin at any time."

Allen gritted his teeth and nodded.

Just treat it as a form of pressure training; the pressure faced against a Basilisk is far greater than the pressure brought by the gazes of a crowd! If I cannot endure today's pressure, then there is no point in challenging the Basilisk, Allen thought silently in his heart.

He carefully stroked the sacs on his neck with his hand, hearing the clear sound of the liquid inside the sacs striking the sac walls.

Allen seemed to instinctively know what to do; he knew he needed to contract the sacs as much as possible and compress the nozzles in his mouth.

He took a deep breath...

The young wizards standing directly in front of him hastily cleared a pathway; in an instant, within a fan-shaped area of 100 feet ahead of him, no living creature remained.

Allen's actions silenced all the young wizards on site; they stared intently at Allen's movements, while those standing at the back even used the Levitation Charm to lift themselves up, ensuring they could clearly see Allen's every move; Allen even noticed that the one floating the highest was Professor Flitwick.

Only then did he realize he had become somewhat distracted; he hurriedly concentrated his mind on the glandular nozzles in his mouth and the glandular sacs...

He could feel that with air in his oral cavity, he could better compress the nozzles on both sides of his tongue; he could feel the sacs on his neck gradually contracting...

He could feel the liquid inside the two sacs beginning to surge toward the nozzles in his mouth; the nozzles in his mouth, due to the compression, also moved forward, reaching the position of his teeth...

Allen felt the fire dragon spitting system he had transfigured had been compressed to its limit...

He instinctively relaxed the muscles of the two nozzles; once the nozzles lost their suppression, two slender, bright streams of liquid rushed out fiercely from within...

At the same time, he also opened his mouth to its maximum extent...

The two streams of liquid did not touch his tongue, teeth, or lips, shooting out of his mouth very cleanly and neatly...

These two slender streams of liquid successfully collided one meter directly in front of him; dazzling green flames immediately appeared in the air...
