Chapter 166: Progress and Unexpected Events

~7 min read 1,251 words

Time passed swiftly; in the blink of an eye, a month had gone by, and the surroundings of Hogwarts had become lush and verdant.

Allen Finis was also advancing his plan in an orderly fashion; ever since he mastered Dragon Breath that day, the other young wizards had become far more awestruck by him.

However, he had grown increasingly to detest Gilderoy Lockhart recently; Lockhart now spent the entire class reading his own works. Originally, such days were quite nice, as Allen could rest assured and doze off in class.

But Lockhart's train of thought seemed different from everyone else's; after the Dragon Breath incident that day, he believed such an Allen was perfectly suited to play the role of an evil magical creature, so Allen's good days ended. He was frequently called up to play various evil magical creatures, only to be defeated by Lockhart.

The Savior, Harry Potter, received similar treatment. Although such behavior caused them no real harm, Allen felt deeply humiliated, yet he could do nothing about it because Lockhart's actions constituted normal teaching behavior.

Allen's development plan for two new types of Transformed Beasts proceeded very smoothly.

For the Impact-type Transformed Beasts, he developed two models: one land-based and one aerial.

For the land-based model, he ultimately chose the ox as the base template, altering the shape and orientation of the ox horns. He transformed the two horns on the ox's head into one-meter-long mithril spikes. The shape of the mithril spikes was much like what he had previously envisioned; he merely added some barbs, so that upon impact, they could continue to inflict secondary damage...

He named this Transformed Beast the Impact Ox.

Allen developed the Impact Ox in a single night because the modifications were minimal, limited only to the ox horns. After all, facing a Basilisk capable of dealing crushing damage, adding thicker armor was pointless. Due to mithril's excellent metallic properties, the Impact Ox's center of gravity did not change significantly, so he did not need to adjust its movement logic at all.

In any case, this Transformed Beast only needed to accelerate continuously at the right time and in the right place to accumulate kinetic energy, then strike the Basilisk while carrying that massive kinetic energy.

The kinetic energy it carries would ultimately transfer to the mithril spikes, so the mithril spikes should be able to breach the Basilisk's skin and scale defenses, of course, provided the angle of impact was correct.

For the aerial Transformed Beast, he chose the peregrine falcon as the base template because the peregrine falcon is the fastest ordinary flying creature in the world. The peregrine falcon is a medium-sized bird of prey, about half a meter in body length with a wingspan of approximately one meter. Its speed during a dive can reach up to 387 kilometers per hour, faster than a typical high-speed train.

Allen merely modified its beak into a mithril spike and its claws into mithril ones. He dared not alter it too drastically because, for such a high-speed flying creature, even a tiny change in appearance could cause all sorts of problems for flight. He adjusted it for many days before confirming a suitable modification plan.

He named this Transformed Beast the Impact Falcon. Although this Transformed Beast looked quite large, it was still relatively small compared to the size of the Basilisk.

Although the Impact Falcon was relatively light in weight, its primary function was to dive from the sky at the right moment, striking the Basilisk's vulnerable eyes and mouth, or even thrusting down its throat into the Basilisk's body to inflict major internal damage.

The Impact Falcon's advantage was its speed, and its disadvantage was also its speed. The speed could catch the Basilisk off guard; even if the Basilisk reacted, it would be difficult to dodge. However, this meant Allen's control over it would be troublesome. After all, the Impact Falcon could not share its first-person perspective with him; Allen could only aim roughly, so when facing moving targets, the hit rate would be quite disheartening.

For these two Transformed Beasts, Allen did not put effort into survivability; after all, they would be swatted dead in one hit, and if they died, he could simply transform another one.

Additionally, Allen's plan to practice broomstick flight was not going smoothly either. It seemed his talent for Quidditch was quite limited. Even though Harry had patiently taught him, his progress in this area remained very slight. He still could not control the broomstick to the extent of doing whatever he wished, which left him somewhat disheartened.

Being unable to control the broomstick well

would expose him to many unnecessary dangers when dealing with the Basilisk, so he could only grit his teeth and practice even harder, hoping that diligence could make up for lack of talent.

Although the development of the two Transformed Beasts went smoothly, Allen felt it was still not enough. He needed more methods to breach the Basilisk's defenses. Dragon Breath was his best option, but he could not determine whether he could perform local transformations on two body parts simultaneously.

Although he had previously considered the idea of modifying memories, he had always been too afraid to attempt that method.

He had once discussed the possibility of this method with Yodel. Yodel simply shrugged his hands and said: "Your talent is unique. I have never seen such a strange talent before, so I have no other experience to draw upon."

Allen believed Yodel was very correct. Yodel also suggested he try it, but Allen did not dare to fully trust Yodel's words, so he hesitated to make a final decision. He merely made small adjustments to his own memories in his daily life, practicing the proficiency of memory modification.

It was late Saturday night again. Allen slipped out of Hogwarts on time to hunt Acromantulas in the Forbidden Forest nearby.

Although the Acromantulas had become more active in spring and were not as easy to hunt as in winter, Allen did not want to give up this stable source of income.

Moreover, he had become sufficiently skilled at hunting Acromantulas now. Furthermore, he could have Yodel's separated consciousness control a Blade Leopard to fight for him, meaning he could deploy three Blade Leopards into battle at once.

Therefore, he still did not abandon his plan to hunt Acromantulas; he merely reduced the frequency from twice a week to once a week.

The night was already very deep. Three Blade Leopards walked silently deep within the Forbidden Forest.

Allen carefully controlled the broomstick, flying close to the treetops.

Acromantulas were becoming harder to find now, probably because they had been hunted too much by the centaurs and Allen during winter. Allen had to expend more effort searching for them.

However, in the matter of hunting Acromantulas, Allen had always been very patient.

He watched silently as the three Blade Leopards searched in the woods below. He had unusually brought the diary out today, placing it in his clothing pocket.

They had been searching for two hours and still found no trace of the Acromantulas. The prolonged search work made him feel somewhat lax.

He gazed absentmindedly at the dark mountains in the distance, letting the broomstick beneath him glide slowly through the air...

Suddenly, an unexpected change occurred. Three strands of spider silk shot out rapidly from the darkness, instantly sticking to Allen's broomstick...
