Chapter 171: Rune Circuit
The cold wind at high altitude blew fiercely, but under his wings, those winds became incomparably docile; he felt the winds had been tamed by him and had become his servants.
His buttocks continued to emit a white bright light, shining like a bright star in the high sky.
Allen felt incomparably excited in his heart; the point that excited him most was that he discovered while he had transformed wings, his previous talent transformation had not failed, indicating his talent transformation had a minimum duration.
As long as he made good use of this minimum duration, he could perform talent transformations on multiple parts by modifying memories; this meant that when facing the basilisk, he could use this to simultaneously transform phoenix eyes and fire dragon breath glands, and could even consider transforming a full set of dragon scales for defense...
A heavy weight was placed once again on the scale of his victory.
At that moment, he suddenly thought of something; he looked down at the ground and discovered the bright cave had disappeared at some unknown time; this ruin was so mysterious...
However, he quickly gathered his mind; his most urgent task now was to return to Hogwarts.
He searched everywhere for Hogwarts and soon saw a bright place in the distance; that must be Hogwarts Castle.
He quickly adjusted his direction and flew toward that place; the dragon wings were extremely powerful, and each flap carried him a great distance.
He flew at high speed in the air, his buttocks glowing like a meteor streaking across the night sky; he just didn't know if anyone had seen him, and perhaps those who saw him would make a wish upon him.
He flew for over ten minutes; the towering Hogwarts Castle grew larger and larger in his sight; he dared not land directly in the castle, knowing Hogwarts Castle had too many defensive measures, and he did not want to be shot down at his own doorstep.
He lowered his altitude, gently swept over the quiet Whomping Willow, and landed silently at the edge of the Forbidden Forest.
He retrieved Harry's Invisibility Cloak from the sphere and put it on; the dragon wings were too huge; although he tried his best to retract them, Harry's Invisibility Cloak still could not completely cover him, and his feet remained exposed.
However, he could not worry about that anymore; he quietly slipped through the castle gates, returned to the dormitory in the Gryffindor Tower, and encountered only a few ghosts along the way; they did not notice the feet that had appeared out of nowhere on the ground.
Allen carefully returned to his four-poster bed, taking care not to let the dragon wings touch anything in the dormitory, so as not to surprise his roommates.
He struggled back onto his four-poster bed, yet felt not a trace of sleepiness.
So many things had happened in just a few hours today, causing him to begin reflecting.
Recently, things had gone too smoothly for him; so smoothly that he had lost his vigilance, which is why he was ambushed by the Acromantulas; fundamentally, it was still his own negligence and arrogance.
He criticized himself for quite a while regarding this matter, then asked Yodel to pull him into the Mind Chamber.
Yodel's face also lost its usual calmness; his expression was somewhat solemn.
"Thank you!" Allen said sincerely, looking at Yodel.
Hearing these words, Yodel seemed somewhat surprised. "Thank me for what?"
"Thank you for not giving up on me when I was ambushed today; if you hadn't controlled the Blade Leopards to fight hard today, I would have been captured directly by the Acromantulas. I won't elaborate on the consequences of being captured; in short, you saved my life!" Allen said with a smile.
Yodel seemed to care little about Allen's gratitude; he didn't even lift his eyelids. "No need to thank me; I did it for myself. If you died, the Blade Leopards you transformed would instantly fail, and the diary would be taken by the Acromantulas to their nest along with your corpse. Although life here with you isn't great, I certainly don't want to stay in that stinking place for many years." Yodel's tone was very flat.
Allen's breath hitched at Yodel's words, and he cursed inwardly: You stubborn tsundere! Can you speak properly or will you die?
Silence returned to the Mind Chamber; Allen, having been shut down by Yodel, lost the desire to speak.
Yet Yodel broke the silence first. "What do you think the things inside that cave were? And how did you know to cancel the Lumos spell at the end?" Yodel suddenly spoke.
Allen then realized Yodel could not read the ancient runes on the plaque, so he quickly synchronized the information with him.
"That cylinder should be an instrument for cultivating or observing some powerful creature, and that ancient ruin was likely a research institute for studying and cultivating that creature; we just don't know why it was abandoned." Allen softly voiced his speculation at the end.
"I didn't expect such powerful creatures and such strange ruins to be hidden around Hogwarts." Yodel sighed suddenly after hearing Allen's introduction.
Allen also silently nodded; today's events had exceeded his imagination as well.
"What does the ancient runes carved on the black ring on that cylinder mean?" Yodel continued to ask.
"I only recognized one word meaning 'stasis'; that is a rune combination method I have never seen before. I always feel that ancient rune combination possesses immense power; otherwise, it could not have suppressed the powerful creature inside that instrument at such a critical moment." Allen thought for a moment and still decided to share this information with Yodel; Yodel's performance today had earned some of his trust.
"Stasis!" Yodel repeated the word. "It seems the function of this rune combination is related to this word." Yodel said in a deep voice.
Allen nodded; he thought Yodel was very correct and had also considered this direction.
Both fell into thought, and the Mind Chamber fell into silence once again...
"I recall seeing a concept called 'Rune Circuit' before; you study ancient runes every day; do you know about this thing?" Yodel asked hesitantly.
"I know! A Rune Circuit is a method of combining ancient runes; wizards discovered long ago that ancient runes possess tiny magical powers, and when some ancient runes are combined, they produce peculiar magical effects; this combination is called a Rune Circuit, and Rune Circuits are widely applied in Alchemy." Allen was not unfamiliar with this thing at all.
"Are you saying... the black ring is carved with some kind of Rune Circuit?" Allen said, somewhat surprised.
"Yes!" Yodel said very decisively.
"Impossible!" Allen shook his head and said, "The magical power of a Rune Circuit is far too weak compared to a wizard's spells; if not for the longer duration, it simply could not be used in Alchemy."
"And the rune combination we saw today, although it resembles a Rune Circuit, possesses magical power that is far too strong; even such a powerful creature was suppressed by it..." Allen refuted, but he soon found himself unable to continue.
Known Rune Circuits have very weak magical power; perhaps it is simply because wizards have not yet discovered Rune Circuits with very strong magical power...
