Chapter 172: Dragon Wings and Flying Broomsticks
What is a magic rune circuit?
It can be understood as connecting multiple ancient runes to achieve a specific effect.
The magical power of a magic rune circuit is stable and long-lasting, so it is widely used in alchemy.
Most magical constructs use magic rune circuits, or variations of them.
However, Allen Finis never really studied magic rune circuits, because he previously relied on the information contained within the ancient runes themselves; he cared less about the power inherent in the ancient runes, and in fact, that power brought him some trouble, such as having to buy large quantities of notebooks to record the ancient runes when he was very poor.
The reason he didn't study magic rune circuits much was first that the magical power of magic rune circuits is indeed relatively weak.
Second, to use the power of magic rune circuits requires some study of alchemy, and studying alchemy is an endeavor that demands a huge investment but yields no income for a very long time.
For someone like Allen Finis, who is so poor he can hear his pockets rattle and has to think for ages before buying a bottle of Fatty's Happy Water, there simply is no economic foundation to study alchemy.
So while he studied ancient runes, the term "magic rune circuit" passed before his eyes countless times, but he always chose to ignore it.
What he saw and heard today sparked a huge interest in magic rune circuits for him, mainly because he now has some money in his pockets and can afford to study alchemy a little.
He said "a little" because alchemy requires consuming magical materials, and magical materials are mostly not cheap, while the primary products of alchemy mostly cannot be sold for much.
So, economic foundation determines the superstructure; to study alchemy deeply, one must have a solid economic foundation.
However, Allen Finis still has some Jin Jin Jialong; although he estimates he won't hunt eight-eyed giant spiders for a very long time, these savings should be enough for him to spend for a while, at least to figure out the purpose and usage of the magic rune circuit he saw today.
Allen Finis happily made his decision, then left the Thought Cottage to prepare for sleep.
He can only sleep lying on his stomach now, because sleeping on his back would press against his wings, and the bones in the wings would be very uncomfortable, plus there are some spikes on the wingtips, and he doesn't want to poke holes in the bed.
Although the dragon wings on his body are somewhat heavy, he fell asleep quickly; this night he experienced too many emotional ups and downs and was already utterly exhausted...
Morning, Allen Finis woke up early; although he was still very tired, he had to get up quickly to go to class. He rushed into the washroom, quickly washed and brushed, then changed clothes, packed the textbooks needed for today into his schoolbag, and prepared to go downstairs for breakfast.
He stayed in bed a bit longer today, so he got up somewhat late; if he didn't go out now, he would be late for class today, and he felt a bit anxious.
But when he pushed the door open, he found the entire dormitory was very quiet; his roommates hadn't gotten up yet...
He quickly woke his roommates up and told them the terrible fact that class was about to start.
His roommates looked at each other with confused expressions.
"Today is Sunday! Why are you going to class? Did you sleep too hard?" Ron said painfully, eyes closed, hugging his pillow.
"Yeah, yeah!" Harry also said, "What a rare opportunity to sleep in on the weekend!"
The roommates ignored Allen Finis one after another and went back to catch up on sleep, while Allen Finis stood there blankly for a long time without moving...
The dormitory returned to silence...
Allen Finis gently put down his schoolbag, walked to the desk, and looked at the calendar on it; today was indeed Sunday, but subconsciously he thought it was Friday...
He walked to the window, pushed it open, and saw that there were indeed not many people in the castle courtyard; one must know that at this time on Monday through Friday, the castle courtyard is always bustling.
Actually, he also remembered the matter of him altering his memory regarding the perception of time,
but remembering it is different from the feeling in the subconscious, just like a person who never gets lost and can distinguish directions suddenly becoming dizzy and confused.
This feeling is extremely bizarre; whenever he thinks about anything, his first perception regarding time is always five days later, and only afterwards does he belatedly remember that he modified his memory.
However, this cognitive confusion did not cause Allen Finis too much trouble, and as surrounding things reminded him of the correct time, he found this cognitive confusion gradually lessening.
It seems that merely altering the perception of time in memory will not cause major problems.
After figuring all this out, sleepiness surged up in him, and he returned to bed to continue catching up on sleep.
This sleep lasted until noon; after waking up, he found Harry and Ron playing Wizard's Chess, and Harry's Nimbus 2000 was placed beside him.
Allen Finis's dragon wings attracted their attention.
"So cool!" Ron walked over, circled around Allen Finis several times, admiring Allen Finis's dragon wings.
"I think so too," Allen Finis said while stroking the dragon wings; except for some trouble when walking, he quite liked these dragon wings.
Fortunately, you can't see my butt glowing during the day, otherwise you'd think it's even cooler, Allen Finis thought to himself.
"Are you still going to the afternoon Quidditch practice?" Harry picked up his Nimbus 2000.
Allen Finis's eyes were confused for a few more seconds, then he realized it was Sunday; he had previously agreed with Harry to practice flying on a broomstick on Sunday afternoon.
The confusion regarding the perception of time affected him again.
"How can I practice flying on a broomstick like this?" Allen Finis shrugged and said.
Harry also circled around Allen Finis a few times. "Maybe we can have a flying race!" Harry suddenly suggested.
"You use your dragon wings, and I'll use my Nimbus 2000; I suddenly want to try it," Harry added.
"Great idea! How fun that would be!" Ron was very excited about this suggestion.
Allen Finis thought this suggestion was also quite good; at dawn, he had really enjoyed the feeling of flying with his dragon wings...
However, a scene from a short video suddenly flashed through his mind: Harry riding a broomstick while being chased by a dragon.
Although he didn't know why the fire dragon was chasing him, it would be nice to help the Savior adapt to the feeling of being chased by a fire dragon in advance.
So Allen Finis agreed to Harry's suggestion; after all, he had nothing to do in the afternoon, and researching magic rune circuits couldn't be rushed; he had walked through the gates of death twice yesterday and needed to find something to relax his somewhat tense nerves, and flying was the best choice.
After all, dragon scales costing ten Jin Jin Jialong each are actually quite expensive, so they must be used to their fullest potential.
Ron also eagerly volunteered to go watch the match.
