Chapter 201: Exploring Magical Intelligence
Next, Allen and Harry went to the apothecary to replenish the various ingredients needed for their Potions class, and also visited Madam Malkin's Robe Shop to buy a few new robes.
Most importantly, they had to purchase new textbooks, including two new courses: Care of Magical Creatures and Divination.
Allen frowned as he bought a copy of "The Monster Book of Monsters," and also purchased "Unfogging the Future," "Intermediate Transfiguration," and "Standard Book of Spells, Grade 3."
Days passed one by one; Harry's arrival brought more fun to Allen's life. They did homework together and practiced spells together.
Harry had actually learned the Disarming Charm. This was a third-year spell! It turned out that after the Dueling Club, Harry developed a strong interest in the Disarming Charm and learned it from senior students on the Quidditch team.
On the other hand, Allen had been obsessed with researching memory magic and his own innate transfiguration, never thinking to learn spells taught only to seniors. This resulted in him still not knowing the Disarming Charm, though he didn't care too much about it.
Recently, they saw more and more students in Diagon Alley, yet they hadn't encountered Hermione and Ron. Just as they thought they would meet Ron and Hermione on the Hogwarts Express, Ron and Hermione arrived together at the wand shop.
Ron looked in great spirits, while Hermione had tanned to a brown color. The four good friends were thus reunited.
They went to Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour for ice cream. Ron kept showing off his new wand, Harry excitedly talked about the Firebolt, and Hermione discussed her elective courses for the year.
Hermione was taking many elective courses this year. Allen had also chosen electives, but he wasn't very interested in Arithmancy or Muggle Studies, choosing only the study of Ancient Runes, hoping to learn new knowledge about Ancient Runes from Professor Babbling.
After exchanging pleasantries, Hermione couldn't wait to go to the Magical Menagerie to buy a pet, while Ron wanted to buy some medicine for his pet, so they went together.
Hermione finally chose a ginger cat named Crookshanks.
Ron bought some medicine for his pet Scabbers. Scabbers hadn't been feeling very well lately, and Ron hoped these medicines would help him.
Then they returned to the Leaky Cauldron, where they saw the Weasley family.
Seeing Mr. Weasley, Allen's eyes lit up. He had long wanted to talk with Mr. Weasley but hadn't found the opportunity. He wanted to discuss magical intelligence with him.
Although he felt such highly confidential knowledge was unlikely to be shared with him, and directly asking would seem very impolite, Allen still wanted to try. After all, he was only thirteen, still considered a child in the eyes of adults, so asking shouldn't be a problem.
However, standing nearby, he couldn't interject. He didn't know how to strike up a conversation with Mr. Weasley.
Mr. Weasley's red hair was gradually thinning, with a bald patch on top. He was tall and thin, wearing glasses. He looked somewhat weary, but considering the recent big news about Sirius Black, the cause of this weariness was obvious.
Ron and Hermione went to chat with the Weasley twins and Jin Ni.
Mr. Weasley started chatting with Harry, discussing how Harry had come to Diagon Alley.
"The Knight Bus? That vehicle is great, but I'm curious how Muggle public transport vehicles work," Mr. Weasley suddenly became animated.
"Muggle public buses, first of all, don't provide accommodation like the Knight Bus..." Allen took this opportunity to join the conversation.
Mr. Weasley listened to Allen's description with great interest, occasionally letting out exclamations.
"Truly magical! Muggles are smarter than many wizards!" Mr. Weasley exclaimed.
"Muggles are indeed smart. I heard they are researching flying cars," Allen calmly steered the conversation.
This topic indeed sparked Mr. Weasley's interest.
"Flying cars!" he said excitedly. Then, as if remembering something, he quickly glanced toward Mrs. Weasley's position. Finding her far away, he lowered his voice and asked, "Muggles have started researching flying cars?"
"Yes, I heard progress is quite slow," Allen also lowered his voice.
"What a pity about my flying car!" Mr. Weasley sighed.
Harry, standing nearby, looked somewhat embarrassed. That flying car was the one he and Ron had lost. He quickly found an excuse to escape the conversation.
"I heard that car ran into the Forbidden Forest," Allen said. With Harry gone, he felt more at ease speaking.
"Yes! George and Fred told me they went into the Forbidden Forest many times looking for it but couldn't find it," Mr. Weasley said, keeping an eye on Mrs. Weasley's movements with the corner of his eye.
There was such a thing? But this was also a good angle. Allen secretly rejoiced in his heart.
"For the past two years, I've been helping Hagrid patrol the Forbidden Forest. Once, while patrolling the Forbidden Forest alone, I encountered your magical car," Allen lowered his voice even further.
"Is it okay?" Mr. Weasley asked eagerly, forgetting to lower his voice. The sudden increase in volume startled Allen.
"It's doing well in the Forbidden Forest. It seems to like life in the Forbidden Forest," Allen said.
"That's good!" Mr. Weasley didn't seem to care much about the car being lost; he seemed more concerned about the car's state of being.
Allen felt his relationship with Mr. Weasley had grown much closer. "There's a question I've always been curious about and would like to ask you," he said somewhat hesitantly.
"What question?" Mr. Weasley shifted into a more comfortable position in his chair.
"I saw Hagrid's flying motorcycle at his place," Allen said. At this point, he noticed Mr. Weasley's eyebrows furrowing deeply. He didn't understand why, but he could only continue. "I found that, similarly to flying Muggle artifacts, your magical car seems to have developed a certain level of intelligence. I observed some very anthropomorphic behaviors, and I can feel it is quite happy in the Forbidden Forest..."
"So I would like to ask how this magical intelligence is generated..." Allen carefully observed Mr. Weasley's expression.
"The flying capability of my car was based on Sirius... uh... Hagrid's motorcycle," Mr. Weasley's expression didn't change at all.
"As for why that car developed a certain level of intelligence, I simply wanted to add an autopilot and navigation function to the magical car, and then it inexplicably gained intelligence. Actually, I don't know how that car generated intelligence..." Mr. Weasley said very honestly.
